Hi All,

Yep a new Duploworld update and again to tell you that tomorrow morning I will be travelling from tomorrow morning. Destination is somewhat less wild and exciting, I will be heading back to Copenhagen for about a week.
This will also mean that the five photos just uploaded will mean the end to my "Greenlandic Autumn Photos 2007" Album.
And anyway it does not look much like autumn any more.
Because Friday evening a powerful Fohn wind sweep across Nuuk. Towards Sunday evening the temperature dropped again and the Føhn wind turned into a blizzard.
During Monday night the snow eased off just enough, for everyone to start clearing the streets and for me to jump out and shoot a few photos, winds though were still strong enough to almost blow me off my feets:eyes:
After the Storm:

Night time Stairway:

later that night it began snowing again and Tuesday afternoon the view from my balcony looked like this:
Autumn Whiteout:

Well later the snow eased off and just outside my door I saw this:
Doorways:

Now you may ask why are I am already closing down the Autumn Album? Well when I return we will have reached December and thus also reached winter and anyway, this does not look much like autumn to me anymore:D
Autumn?

Now it is just a regular storm, making it close to full week without sunlight and strong winds. Today is not too bad really, only around 31 m/s or 110 km/h.

So take care you all and thanks for looking:)
I will be back to read up soon.

White Autumn?

, , , ...

Hi All,

Well Another Duploworld Update is up and a good one at that.

I returned from New York and London a good week ago and has been held company by blizzards and a F0hn wind attack. even in spite of the fact that the good 24 hours of Fohn wind did kill some of the snow, Greenland is still slowly progressing towards its most beautiful season, winter.

Today I had a most beautiful walk in the harsh, but to me beautiful Greenlandic late autumn landscape.
As days has decreased a fair bit, this afternoon walk would be what the rest of you guys would probably call... well... an evening walk:D

Now on to the photos:

Autumn at dusk

Frozen

Weather on this beautiful Autumn day... -7C and quite windy, but what a beautiful day:happy:

Thanks for looking and do take care:)

More winter and my APN favourites.

, , , ...

Hi All,

Third Duploworld update in a row...This update is mainly pictures but also my APN favourites:)

Winter:
I have started off the NWP album and well today I went for a walk playing with my new lenses.
Here are a a few pictures from the latest addition to the brand new Nuuk Winter Pictures album:

<--- Just a silent driveway, as you can see not much winter, but just that little taste of it.

<--- It does not get more winterly to me, two kids playing in the snow:)

<--- Well an Ice flake at sea. must be winter.

<--- This is just soo peacefull to me (No not miss Duplo, just some random elder lady in a fur coat:D)

<--- Well this picture is my first real birdy shot, not a successful one, but it is here to tell a bit about my new monster lens.
When I saw this birdy I had the lens mounted on the tripod. the sigma lens has a turn and pull release collar on their larger lenses. I notised this bird right in front of me, managed to release the lens collar, lift, focus and shoot. pretty OK to me. all in less than a second. It may be a bad motive, but it sure proves that AF is fast on this lens and that the turn and pull system works when in a hurry:D

My APN favourites:
Well here they are, my APN favourites from the various APN participants. Presented in random order:
I have hopefully not missed out on anyone?
Louis's best APN, Sandy's best APN, Andy's best APN, Elke's best APN, bfdolphin's best APN, Richard's best APN, Words's best APN, Ramunas's best APN, Hungry's best APN,
DuckyChickenLady's best APN, SittingFox´s best APN, Zenya's best APN, Wicked's Best APN, Veronica's best APN, CP's best APN, Yoopers best APN, Just4u's best APN, Today's best APN, Titalion's best APN

That all for now.

Take care all and hopefully I will se you at the WPN:D

Weekend, Snow and what might be a wonderful surprise

, , ,

HI All,

Time for yet another Duploworld update:)

Weekend has arrived and this week has been a real killer at work, why it is most welcome:)
It will be a quiet weekend, as I am travelling next week, that major round the Atlantic trip I have talked about.

The tittle says snow and no I am not kidding, I just looked out the window and into the night... a fine white carpet of beautiful white snow covers everything:yes: I have been longing for this for some time:)

Depending on the amount of snow this picture might be the very last Nuuk Autumn Picture from me this season:cry:
Well rest asure that a NWP album will follow it...
It is an eveing (afternoon actually, daylight is not what we have most of up here right now) photo towards the Industrial harbour.
(Click the picture for a larger view)

I got another very pleasant surprise today too, My new lenses and my tripod:yes: may very well be delivered tomorrow and not monday as planned, giving me all weekend to play around with it:)

Ohh and I have had another bonus too, my stay in New york Coincides with the New York Photo Plus Expo and I will be able to go there:)

Well That is it for now... time for some sleep:)

Take care and have a wonderful weekend:)

Thomas

APN is running out and a splendid weekend.

, , , ...

Hi All,

This weekend has been a lot of walking... a way of cleansing the soul and recharge the totally flat batteries I suffered from...
It has indeed ben a splendid weekend, lots of time with Miss Duplo, she even joined me on my walk today.
Batteries are well charged now and they need to be, got some VERY rough weeks coming up (like 3 or 4 of them).

Including my around the atlantic trip which is quite a programme, but it will go as follows:
NOV2-3: Arlington, US
NOV3-5: New York City, US
NOV6-9: London, UK
NOV9-10: Cologne, DE
NOV10-14: COpenhagen and Judland, DK
Again it will be quite a challenge and I am certain that I will be pretty bashed:ko: when coming back from that trip...

Well I promised you yesterday to upload the backlog of Nuuk Autumn Pictures, well here are 3 examples, 5 more in the album:

Just could not resist showing of Miss Duplo:love: again:D
As you can see from the pictures, autumn is running out and fast. Snow is coming, though disappearing partly during the day, but it will not be loong. I think I will follow the example of Louis and set October 31st as the last day of my APN postings, but do not worry I will start up WPN or NWP (Nuuk Winter Pictures) in my own terms on November 1st. Well make that November 15th, as I will be travelling between the 2nd and 14th...

I have also shot a few more pictures for the Nuuk from a foreigner's point of view album:

(As usual all pictures in this post are clickable for a larger view)
The first one might seem brutal, but it is a sight that one gets used to up here, this is a society of hunters and fishermen, surviving in a rather extreme environment. Those still living like that has a, to me at least, rather brutal approach to life.
It is not uncommon to see either a seal, a rein deer, snow hare (I am not sure of the english name) or something ismilar hanging out to dry from a balcony, a made for the purpose wooden structure or even the roof as here..

Anyway I will head to bed... take good care you all.

Thomas

Winter is really closing in.

, , , ...

Hi All,

A quick update on Duploworld.

I am far more relaxed this evening, have had a downright splendid day:) I even went as far as turning of my work cell phone:eyes: very unconventional in my world.

Woke op kind of late, had a light breakfast and as the fog cleared I strapped on my hiking boots, grabbed my toy and headed out, a thick coat of ice were covering everything, it looks a bit like autumn suffering from death by suffocation...
Temperatures are stady belwo zero degrees and first snow is expected friday according to the weather forecast.

The best part is that the autumn fog and freezing cold air covers everything in a thick frosty layer of ice, making for some remarkable landscapes.

It makes for some rather different pictures as well, these are still part of the Nuuk Autumn Pictures album, but I am afraid that next step will be to move from APN to VPN pretty soon.

These are just a taster and only semi close ups, I have more pictures of the transition in a zoomed out view, will do a proper picture update soon.

And two new shots for the Nuuk from a foreigner's point of view album

All in all today has left me with more energy and I hope tomorrow will follow that trend after all that is what weekends are all about.

Take care you all, and enjoy the rest of the weekend:)

Thomas

Busy, busy, busy and a few picture:)

, , , ...

Hi All,

Well it has been a few days since the last Duploworld update...

Truth is, I am busy, buried in deadlines, lacking sleep (I wonder if sneep is more efficient?:D), not enough time to get everything done.
I did however take the time to walk home yesterday, I walked a new route and it were wonderful to see somethin new on the way home...

Backlog of new posts to read, I am rtying to get there, so please be patient....

ANyway I am not goin to cheat you for a few Nuuk Autumn Picures, three brand new pictures for that album is here and more is for sure to come, even though Autumn is running out of time quickly, which is evident from the pictures as well.

I even got a shot for the album Nuuk from a foreigner's point of view a very peace full scene.

And a shot for the Scenic Greenlandic Nature album as well.

It were a very peaceful walk and I enjoyed it a lot. weekend is comming up and I really need it this time... I thing I am going to :faint::ko: and stay like that for 24 hours straight.

Take care all and have a wonderful weekend:)

Thomas

Taking you to the slum

, , , ...

Hi all,

I have been off grid for something like 36 hrs. Counter says 56 new post to read:faint: Tonight or tomorrow night is the target for that task.
Anyway what has happened in Duplo world? I have been taking pictures, adding to the albums I am working on and walking a lot.

I went on a walk to the slums of Nuuk today, this is where the non educated and poor part of the locals live.
An area practically in the middle of Nuuk, with huge(by Nuuk standards) badly build and poorly maintained apartments buildingss and decay visible from a mile away.
One can almost sense the hopelessness and low living standard just by looking at these bildings. The pictures below kind of says it all.
I could have written a photo essay as per the last post, but to me the pictures really tells the story better than I could ever do. a truely depressing start on todays walk.

To make my personal depression worse I decided to look at the modern architechture in Nuuk, these two pictures shows how it is developing, another bad thing in my opinion. I like the traditional look of Nuuk and the excessive use of colours and wood, But as they say, all good things must come to an end. Luckily only three such buildings exists ( a fourth is under way) and they are not really notisable in the overall picture and impression of nuuk

To get in a better mood I walked to the waterfront and the dominating and traditional looking Nuuk.

More pictures in the album "Nuuk from a foreigner's point o view" I have been unable to edit the album any further, the darn server monkey will not let me, why the order of the added pictures has not been finalised, however all the pictures are there.

Were are still in autumn and I will not cheat you for a picture that I personally like and thus hope you like as well.
It is shot with my belowed 43mm prime lens, a truely amazing lens to work with and build with a very delicate bokeh.

A semetary view can be beautiful as well.

There are a few more pictures in the album "Nuuk Autumn Pictures"

As usual all pictures in this post a clickable for larger views:)
Well I am off for bed soon. Brunch with some friends tomorrow, got to be in shape for it:)

Take care:)

Thomas

Mostly a picture update

, , , ...

Hi All,

Having Miss Duplo back I have not had that much time to update you all on Duploworld and working my way through the list of new entries to read is kind of hard too, but be patient I am working on it..

Well to be entirely honest Miss Duplo is not the only one to blame. I have quite a huge workload lately. Project are speeding up and our first commercial flight to the US is just around the corner, leaving on November 2nd. A test flight prior to the official first flight on May 25th 2007. Setting up the connections to the Global Distribution Systems is my part of it. well not the technical part, got techies to handle that (I am not nearly technical enough to do that), but from a business process perspective I am on top of it. Takes a lot of time though. Time I really should be spending on my main project.

Well for what this post is all about, sunday morning I woke out and guess what snow were covering all the rooftops:) winter is surely approaching and fast at that. this morning the streets were so slippery that it were hard to walk without falling.

I have been taking pictures the last few days, not only of Miss Duplo (and no Richard, no threats on my life yet:D), but also for the albums "Scenic Greenlandic Nature", Nuuk from a foreigners Point of view" and "Nuuk Autumn Pictures" as usual there are some pictures that could belong in all of them, but I had to make a choise.

Here they are. As always, you can click the pictures for larger views.

"The peaceful Emptiness of Nature"aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"Early morning coastline towards the Northern Lands"

aaaaaaaaaaaaaa"A costline in HDR" "Sourroundings are changing"

"Soo many colours"aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"A transition from Autumn to Winter"

I do ove you all, or some of you anyway, a huge thank you. Because as Richard told me, then the picture below is the highest rated picture in the community in time of writing.

Thank you all, you are too kind. I do greatly appreciate the compliment.

Tak care you all. I will head to bed soon.

Thomas
