Duplo's blog

- Just another blog on the internet -

More winter and my APN favourites.

, , , , , , ,

Hi All,

Third Duploworld update in a row...This update is mainly pictures but also my APN favourites:)

Winter:
I have started off the NWP album and well today I went for a walk playing with my new lenses.
Here are a a few pictures from the latest addition to the brand new Nuuk Winter Pictures album:

<--- Just a silent driveway, as you can see not much winter, but just that little taste of it.

<--- It does not get more winterly to me, two kids playing in the snow:)

<--- Well an Ice flake at sea. must be winter.

<--- This is just soo peacefull to me (No not miss Duplo, just some random elder lady in a fur coat:D)

<--- Well this picture is my first real birdy shot, not a successful one, but it is here to tell a bit about my new monster lens.
When I saw this birdy I had the lens mounted on the tripod. the sigma lens has a turn and pull release collar on their larger lenses. I notised this bird right in front of me, managed to release the lens collar, lift, focus and shoot. pretty OK to me. all in less than a second. It may be a bad motive, but it sure proves that AF is fast on this lens and that the turn and pull system works when in a hurry:D

My APN favourites:
Well here they are, my APN favourites from the various APN participants. Presented in random order:
I have hopefully not missed out on anyone?
Louis's best APN, Sandy's best APN, Andy's best APN, Elke's best APN, bfdolphin's best APN, Richard's best APN, Words's best APN, Ramunas's best APN, Hungry's best APN,

That all for now.

Take care all and hopefully I will se you at the WPN:D

HI Misund,

So am I... so am I:D

Allanricewood Monday, October 30, 2006 7:04:17 PM

Thomas, I´m very interested in those Sigma lenses.

The bird-shot. Could you give me some details - aperture, shutterspeed, the lot? Maybe even price??

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Monday, October 30, 2006 9:33:43 PM

Hi Allan,

Is LBA slowly grabbing you?bigsmile
They are really nice lenses and very sharp at that: the little one has some distorsion at the wide end, but most wide angle lenses has that and it is fairly easy to correct in PP.

OK... the exif for the birdy shot:
focal length: 200mm
ShutterSpeed: 1/1600 sec
Aperture: f2.8
ISO: 200
Focus: AF-S (AF-C would most likely have made it even better)
Mode: Manual
Whitebalance: Auto

The nikon version of this lens is HSM equipped (Hyper sonic motor) and should have an even snappier focus speed.

Danish priser on the lenses:
The 70-200: 8000 - 9000 DKK
The 17-70: 3000 - 3500 DKK

Let me know if I have forgotten something:)

Allanricewood Monday, October 30, 2006 10:20:59 PM

Thomas, that´s very sufficient - thanks for the info.

Better go to my camera pusher soon.

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Monday, October 30, 2006 10:30:48 PM

Hi Allan,

You are most welcome:)

Not a bad idea... I am looking very much forward to see what the lenses are capable of in your hands:)

BTW, they do make a 135-300 f2.8 too, but you will need to ad another 100 grams to the weight, buy 82 or is it 105 mm filters...
Ohh and more or less tripple the price:eyes: want it, but I do not have that kind of mony to spend right now...

hmmmm. that picture with the two kids...you sure it's not Mr. Duplo and Miss Duplo playing in the snow?

Hi Hungyr.

It could easily have been, nothing like a good snowball fight:D

only it would be a bit difficult taking the picture from that angle and play in the snow at the same time:D:D

Thanks for liking my conker photo bigsmile and I, too, hope there will be a WPN. Though even high summer in Greenland could probably pass as winter here wink

I love the pic of the ice flake. smile

Hi SittingFox,

Thank you:)

No need to thank me... It is a great photo:)

No summer where I live is actually pretty OK, well not exactly weather for a dip, but cannot have it all can we:D

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Tuesday, October 31, 2006 9:37:20 PM

Hi Hirokichi,

So nice to have you around:)
Yeah I have had a lot of attention on the rating page lately and trust me I do appreciate it a lot:)
It is has in many ways boosted my self confidence.

But to be honest i do think there are people here doing a better job:)

I am looking forward to tage some winter pictures and to pass on the Greenlandic winter to you as well:)

Take care:)

Duplo, dude how ya doin.
Great photos, your composition is fabulous up
And what you call not much winter is more snow than we usually get all winter:(
When we do get some it rarely stays for more than a couple of hours.

"But to be honest i do think there are people here doing a better job" I would have to disagree, every one has their own style and yours is cool.

Hi Richard,

I am quite fine actually, preparing the last stuff for some meetings tomorrow prior to my departure for Washington and New York (and London and Cologne and Copenhagen:D) on Thursday... Really looking forward to travel again, have not been doing so since mid september...

Thanks for the nice compliments... both on the pictures in this post and my shooting style... I guess I just have a hard time accepting the fact my self... I do greatly appreciate that comment of yours:)

Well guess that is the difference between up here and Europe, by Danish standardss it would be a lot too, but up here they do measure snow in meters when talking about a lot Take this example from last winter

Taken at my front door... now that is snow:D:D

Take care:)

Sprogger McSprogsprogger Wednesday, November 1, 2006 4:55:05 AM

Jesus thats a lot of snow.
Here on the west coast of Ireland we get even less snow that the rest of the country.
The Gulf stream practically runs by the front door bigsmile

Thomas Bojer EltorpDuplo Wednesday, November 1, 2006 4:57:39 AM

Yep one learns to handle a snow showel up here:D

hungryghost Wednesday, November 1, 2006 5:28:17 AM
