Tweak Clear Type For Better LCD Readability

, ,

There is a great utility for tweaking the ClearType settings for Windows XP. ClearTweak really helps to improve the readability of text on most LCD monitors.
The software also adjusts RGB vs BGR for ClearType on LCD's, something that is not available in Windows XP as a UI setting.
You can do this manually though.
Right click on your desktop, this brings up the display properties, click on the 'appearance' tab, and go down and click on the 'effects' button. The 2nd check box down should be checked where it says "use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts". In the drop down menu under that line of text, select "clear type". Apply the changes.
This adjustment makes a big difference the way fonts are displayed. Using clear type, the fonts are sharp and detailed. Maybe this does chew a few more resources up but, if you spend a lot of time in front of the monitor like I do, it is worth it. I wouldn't dream of not using it.
It really makes a difference on laptops, almost worth the price of WinXP alone.

The program is freeware.
