About Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach (21 March 1685 O.S. – 28 July 1750 N.S.) was a German composer and organist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together almost all of the strands of the baroque style and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new musical forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust and dazzling contrapuntal technique, a seemingly effortless control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Bach's forceful suavity and vast output have earned him wide acknowledgment as one of the greatest composers in the Western tonal tradition. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, his works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. Steven Spielberg was working on a movie about famous composers.
He confronted Jean Claude Van Damme and asked him to play the part of Mozart.
Nobody says no to Mr Spielberg, so he agreed.
Next, he asked Sylvester Stylone to play Beethoven's part.
Sylvester was happy to agree.
Lastly he asked Arnold Schwarzenegger to play the role of Tchaikovsky.
Arnold shook his head and said: "No....... I'll be BACH".

 I know the joke sucks

Thanks for the bit of history.

Regards,
Melissa

Good morning Eve and Melissa,

thanks for your visits. The best for me from Bach are the Goldberg Variations. Soon I'll have to put down a link for that here... Eve, when I'm back in Munich I'll try to translate your e-mail.

I'll be back

I have just to say only that this man is an unbelievable phainomenon.
I am studing his works since i was a little boy and now 12 years later i sleep only after listening to at least 10 of his works.
His best achievements for me is his "Toccatas and Fugues" which are recorded on church organ.

hail to our brother Johann
Hail glorious Leipzig
