Michael A. Reiter: Ihre Ausstrahlung - erkennen, entwickeln und gezielt einsetzen
Book review in German

| © Elmar Driver

"Your Charisma - discover it, develop it and use it effectively" would be the translation of the German title. This book is not available in English. Anyways, here is my book review in English.

This little book by Michael A. Reiter has been published by the German publisher Haufe Verlag. The basic statements are correct, without doubt: If you want to come across as positive you need to be authentic. Physical well-being, breathing, your voice and your attitude to life play an important role for having a strong charisma.

On top of that, the book has some exercises, too. Unfortunately the author hurries from one exercise to the next one and I can't believe that many readers of this book get into these exercises really deep. At least I expected to get just a quick overview on the subject.

Furthermore I think it would be quite difficult to do these exercises regularly in your everyday life. Other ways to get closer to your inner self like Tai Chi Chuan, autogenous training, hiking and so on (the author doesn't even talk about these things) probably are a much better ways. | © Elmar Driver

interesting theme though. i always thought that charisma was a given. the idea that one could evolve a charisma is probably an empty promise. but i 'll bet anyone who beocmes too identified with doing the 'exercises', imagining results, without a guide in the form of a real human being will wind up in the nuthouse.

tai chi chuan would be more grounding for anyone. also hiking would help by providing a healthy body, which helps.

thanks for the heads up. i will check it out if it ever gets translated. did the author do any research on the subject or does he allow that his theory is conjecture?

You're right, of course. "There is no cosmetic for beauty like happiness." (Countes Blessington) Maybe I should have translated vibrancy instead of charisma. Actually, this book is supposed to help business people. As you saw, I didn't like it that much anyway. Especially the title is bizarre: "How to use it effectively ..."! So, the whole thing belongs to the masses of management training literature. My next review will be other stuff, I promise you.

cool. i see. so the perception of others of the vivified personality, how to create it and how to use it effectively.
