The Complete Peanuts 1950-1952 by Charles M. Schulz

| © Elmar Driver

The Complete Peanuts 1950-1952 by Charles M. Schulz
Book review in English

Volume 1 of this amazing complete edition of the comic strips by Charles M. Schulz (published by Fantagraphics Books) is about the years 1950-1952. At the end of this first volume the reader also finds an essay about Charles M. Schulz and a detailed interview with this illustrator from the year 1987.

In October 1950 Charles M. Schulz had started his amazing Peanuts comic strips. Since then, his funny and big-headed characters appeared in the newspaper daily. In a subtle manner again and again he shows so many new variations of the same topics. And several times the reader probably might think about his own, also not perfect, life and he might smile about it then. | © Elmar Driver

Hi Elmar,
I followed the Peanuts strip for many years. It often made me smile when things were grim in my own life.

i have been a fan of peanuts since it started. there's always a kind of question to savor.
i met the guy who has taken over drawing the syndicate. what an overbearing asshole he is. not like schulz. he rides his bike around venice beach everyday.... bleached blond.... hot shit. (that's an american expression for 'thinks he is great'.)

no, i would like to tell him, he's just a copyist. oh well...

at least you gave me the opportunity to complain about his repulsive egomania.

my favorite is when charlie picks a flower off a tree.... lucy says, "you shouldn't do that." charlie asks, "why not?"
lucy... "what if everbody does that? then there will be no flowers."
charlie brown counters with, "yeah, but everybody doesn't"

Another nice thing about this complete edition is to see how the whole thing evolved. But almost all the main features of the later Peanuts can be found already in this first volume.

Have a good time, both of you
Elmar
