NIGERIA @ 51: BEREAVEMENTS NOT ACHIEVEMENTS.

, , , , , , ,

She's a great nation called Nigeria who begots over 150 million children and celebrating her 51st birthday. She's a fruitful mother with hardworking and intelligent children.
As expected, her numerous children would gather to celebrate the birthday of their beloved mother. It really should be a day of joy, celebrations and praises to the Lord.
51 years is a great milestone worthy to be celebrated. "We celebrate achievements not bereavements". At 51, Nigeria have been bereft of Unity, Peace and Justice which once united it's people and made them a single unit worthy to be celebrated and emulated because of their achievements, ability and greatness.
Nigerians now look at their past wishing they can reach that milestone again. The modern day government has been one known for promises and setting goals. Goals which seems more of illusions and unachievable.
The vision 2020 - Many Nigerians do not absolutely believe these goals can be achieved before the year 2020 given the slow pace or somehow retarding movement the country now operates. To some of them, the Vision 2020 project is more of a mirage and should be meant to deceive foolish people.
Peace & Unity - Perhaps the major tool in nation building. Peace & Unity was something that once united us when we possessed it. "You cannot showcase what you don't possess". Nowadays, this precious tool no longer exists. There's been talks from different people and countries that Nigeria will soon disintegrate. I remember vividly when the former Libyan President Col. Ghadaffi said the best thing for Nigeria is 'division' because of the lack of Peace in the country and also when Former President of the US said Nigeria will disintegrate by 2015. "When there's Peace, Unity will be affirmed. When Peace is absent, Unity goes off".
Militants group are now the major tormentor of Peace in the country. The two major groups comes from the two major parts of the country; the Niger Delta militants from the South (South-South) and the 'Boko Haram' from the North.
Niger Delta Militiants - The activities of oil companies in the oil rich Southern region of the country did raised eyebrows. The notable oil spilling from these companies have destroyed farmlands, waters (rivers, well, streams and more) and of course the aquatic life like the fish which serve as food and source of money to these people. What do you expect? When your government in collaboration with some foreign oil companies take from you what you have and never care about how their activities harm you neither do they care about your welfare! The government keeps backing these companies just because of the money but sometimes never shows concern about the well-being of the people. These made militants rise to say 'enough is enough, we're not animals. Give us what we deserve'. Even amnesty did not help. Though militants accepted the amnesty and surrendered their weapons based on the governments' promise to settle their demands. But their activities still looms today like bombing and notably kidnap because the government neglected most of them after the amnesty programme.
The 'Boko Haram' - The Islamic sect. have been the chief cause of major terrorist activities in the country. This group gets some of their funds and members from countries like Chad and Niger. They are strongly against Western influence or Civilization. Thus 'Boko Haram' means 'Civilization is prohibited'. They've commited various suicide bombings and carried out several attacks on Individuals and Government agencies. Their quest is definitely something I would say is born out of idleness or laziness. The world is a global village, civilization spreads as fast as wildfire. How can you think of removing civilization from a country like Nigeria. It's more of trying to get water out of stone.
There are many more issues which should rather make the country worry than celebrate. Poor social amenities, Internet fraud, 419, Poor infrastructures and most notably a Corrupt government which is becoming inevitable and the source of other problems.
Nigeria is now 51 years old but it's been bereaved and ought to be solving problems not celebrating. Though we celebrate but deep in our hearts, we know there isn't just much to be celebrated. "It's better to celebrate achievements than to celebrate age". A country whose people were once commited, proudly Nigerians, energetic, hardworking, happy and successful has now turned into a country whose people are now Torpor and Lassituded.
Nigeria: Once Achieved, now Bereaved.
May the good Lord save Nigeria.
Long live Nigeria.
God bless Nigeria.
Nigeria: Good People, Great Nation.
HEAL THE WORLD.

NIGERIA @ 50: NOT TO CELEBRATE BUT TO DELIBERATE.

nice to see your online once more.I would say that Nigeria will never move forward at the pace needed until it solves the diverse groups that are only interested in what they can gain for themselves, and not considering others, until these groups are sorted,Nigeria will never move forwards, only backwards.

an elder suggested if Nigeria must move forward, it must practise true federalism or else it'll collapse by 2015. Do you see this as the best step?

KYLEcastus2 Tuesday, October 4, 2011 6:58:59 AM

maybe true Democracy would be more appropriate maybe,,until the corruption is sorted, the your country will not be going anywhere.

Prince Universe (Activista)ELHAMEED Thursday, October 6, 2011 2:36:17 AM

Nigeria began to practise democracy over 11 yrs ago. Don't you think all this ugly things happen as a result of premature democracy?

KYLEcastus2 Thursday, October 6, 2011 7:09:12 AM

no i don't,it happened because of the same old thing, greed,so until that is sorted out,big problems.

daramson writes: Nigeria will move forward only if the chain of corruption can be broken!

KYLEcastus2 Friday, October 7, 2011 7:02:24 AM

i just said that,happy you agree..cool

Prince Universe (Activista)ELHAMEED Friday, October 7, 2011 7:45:48 AM

it was a different person who commented. Well, corruption lingers in every country of the world but some of them still progress. Is there something Nigeria should be doing they aren't?

KYLEcastus2 Friday, October 7, 2011 2:10:08 PM

yes,put half the goverment in jail

Prince Universe (Activista)ELHAMEED Sunday, October 9, 2011 12:07:13 PM

that isn't possible. It's like giving a dog a bone hoping it'll keep it without eating it. In a country where corruption is a norm, what will you do?

KYLEcastus2 Sunday, October 9, 2011 12:10:29 PM

up to the people then not to have it anymore, such as Libya,Egypt,a hard task, but such is life.

Prince Universe (Activista)ELHAMEED Tuesday, October 11, 2011 7:21:06 PM

the situations of these countries you mentioned is quite different from Nigeria's. In Nigeria, the president is not a dictator, so what will the people protest against when there's still a possibility of electing another corrupt president?

KYLEcastus2 Tuesday, October 11, 2011 7:38:16 PM

well it seems that not just presidents are corrupt, but many groups also,so as an outsider,i have no solutions.maybe a much better standard of living for the people would be an answer, then no need to be corrupt, but i am clutching at straws, seems it is the default way of life for many to be corrupt,so i do not have a feasible answer.

Prince Universe (Activista)ELHAMEED Monday, October 17, 2011 4:00:44 AM

does that means you've accepted corruption is not the major or only cause of Nigeria's problems?

KYLEcastus2 Monday, October 17, 2011 6:58:23 AM

no,it is not the only cause, you could have also greed, self interest, indifference to others,so not just corruption, many things.I have to say that Nigeria is not alone in this ,many countries,if not all, have these problems, but in other countries, the corruption seems to get lost along the way in the thoughts of people, maybe because it does not have such a bad effect as say Nigeria. So,you are not unique in that sense, just that with so many poor people in your country,it is highlighted more.

Prince Universe (Activista)ELHAMEED Wednesday, November 16, 2011 6:38:30 AM

well, i accept the fact there are too many poor people in Nigeria. Arguably, corruption is not the only cause of poverty. In your opinion, what is the best solution?

KYLEcastus2 Wednesday, November 16, 2011 8:31:55 AM

It is in the hands of the people, similar to what is happening in Asia, people power is the only solution i feel.

Prince Universe (Activista)ELHAMEED Thursday, November 17, 2011 8:12:02 AM

A people not united to fight as one! A people slowly been thorn apart by religious differences. Well, making Nigeria a stable nation will start from the roots and will definitely require proper planning and organisation amongst the people.

KYLEcastus2 Thursday, November 17, 2011 8:42:01 AM

i seen a tv pro gramme on the corruption regarding the oil in Nigeria, people stealing it,it is a massive problem, just one of many, but when people are poor, they tend to do anything to survive,so not for me to stand in judgement.

Prince Universe (Activista)ELHAMEED Sunday, November 20, 2011 6:56:01 AM

Well, it's not just that way. You also have to consider what these oil companies are costing the people. Their land, waters and farmland have been extremely polluted. Just recently, they've been hit by acid rain. Recently Brazil probed a US oil company Chevron for oil spillage. Nigeria will never probe definitely because of the money our greedy leaders get from these companies. That goes a long way in undermining how the love of money and bribery has eaten up our leaders that they no longer have the interest and plight of their people at heart.

KYLEcastus2 Sunday, November 20, 2011 9:34:18 AM

it is true about the leaders, but also true that some people are cashing in on the oil for there own profit illegally, but once again, would i do the same in there position, maybe yes.

Prince Universe (Activista)ELHAMEED Tuesday, December 20, 2011 2:56:40 AM

you mean in the position of the leaders?

KYLEcastus2 Tuesday, December 20, 2011 8:18:35 AM

no,i mean if i were desperately poor ,as in the case of some Nigerians, who is to say that i would not become corrupt, just to survive..

Prince Universe (Activista)ELHAMEED Wednesday, February 8, 2012 9:05:24 AM

both of us are of the same views here. If I were very poor, I won't have to turn to corruption to survive. Besides, it's better to be poor and be free and happy than to be rich and never feel safe all because you're not settled for fear of the law.

KYLEcastus2 Wednesday, February 8, 2012 3:19:48 PM

Easy to say if your not desperately poor.
