Politics and...say what...progress?!

Basically, I've come across stuff that reminds me yet again of how low the consciousness among some politicians actually is. And while I'd rather not single out anyone in particular, the stupidest statements more or less consistently come out of Fremskrittspartiet, the so-called Norwegian "Progress party" (that is probably not entirely fair, but that must be my current filter). Progress in the eyes of Fremskrittspartiet is not about progress for the world, it's about isolating Norway inside a little bubble where everybody is a spoiled little shit, having little to no exposure to the scary ways and people of the world. Progress for ourselves at the expense of the world in other words. In a time when the very existence of humanity is threatened, when many experts and random people like myself question whether we will even survive the century, that's a brilliantly progressive view of the world, don't you think?
If some voices in the Progress party got it their way, we should really just cease to offer aid to countries which are less fortunate than ourselves, pump all of that money into a space program and build a BIG-ASS spaceship to tow the landmass of Norway into outer space and drop it on a more hospitable planet. But to be honest, it would be a lot more in line with the Progress party's politics to build a REALLY big-ass spaceship and shoot EVERYBODY ELSE into outer space. And then we can discover for ourselves that without the rest of the world, Norway is a fucking disaster zone with no ability to sustain itself. That goes for EVERY country in the world today - we're so interdependent - we need each other, yet ethnocentric mediocre people keep hanging on to the idea that the people of whichever country they were born in are somehow more important and valuable than everyone else. Well, if that ain't a fucking enlightened view, I don't know what is!
Two brilliant statements that have really made my faith in progress at the hands of the Progress party skyrocket (trust the Progress party to make me sarcastic)
We must illegalize bringing forth disabled and retarded children. It's cruel to the kids and it's a massive drain on society.
This quote is by some insignificant progress party politician whose name I don't remember. Just as well. Local Progress party politicians disapproved of the statement. Thank goodness.
Foreign people who come to Norway must learn our language. So must Spanish people who wish to work with Norwegians here in Spain.
Former party leader Carl I Hagen to a colony of emigrated spoiled Norwegians on the east coast of Spain. Here, they have literally brought Norway with them, including food, media and politicians, so that they won't have to blend with the scary Spanish or learn their annoying little language. Not to mention that they've heated up the estate market to the point where Spanish people cannot afford to live in their own country anymore. Great! A marvellous display of love and concern!
And then today's news story that inspired me to write this blog post in which the Progress party's party-paper compared the leader of the most left wing party in Norway "Rødt" (Red) Torstein Dahle with Quisling, the poster boy for treason in Norway and the world. The reason? He claimed that the Afghans had every right to defend themselves against the occupation soldiers. He was criticized in national newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (a financial newspaper) as being the only Norwegian party leader since Quisling promoting the murder of Norwegian soldiers. It was all in good fun, editor of said party-paper claimed.
Right on brothers, ain't that the dance of love - you're so close to the truth now that you're practically freezing to death! Check this out: If soldiers considered an enemy were on Norwegian land, would you not defend yourselves? And wouldn't you take this right for granted? Yes you say? Then why are you so fucking numb in your freezedried little brains to be oblivious to other people's desire for the same? Are you idiots? No, really - did someone skullfuck you with an electric baton, completely smashing your cerebral cortex leaving only your reptilian brainstem functioning? No? Then start USING YOUR BRAIN! Not to mention your heart - even though that's something of a long shot... By the way, I love you - and no, I'm not being sarcastic.
Now, I'm not sure whether Dahle's description of Norwegian soldiers as an occupation army is exactly accurate. As he's on the OTHER EXTREME of the political spectrum, he surely has many of the same ignorant views and narcissistic trips. It's not exactly like communism was a success! A more blatant manifestation of human ignorance has rarely been seen.
Anyway, most of what the Progress party is actually doing has little to do with politics and everything to do with fearmongering. It's a party which actively grows people's fears and xenophobia so that it can gather votes on the premise of protecting people against the evil world. Sounds a bit like fascism really. Now, with that being the case, you may believe that I would like to get rid of the party. NOT AT ALL! The progress party serves an important and excellent purpose - to gather most of Norway's ethnocentric people in one easily identifiable group. Any human being has to develop through world views, along the spiral of consciousness with the inevitable conclusion of enlightenment (Read more about that here to understand my use of colours below - they're not political colours, they're spiral dynamic colours). This means that any human being has to develop through the ethnocentric stage. So then you have the Progress party. Excellent! An organized entity that helps people wrestle with their blue worldview for a while. Some move on, some stay put. That's the mystery of life.
HOWEVER!!!! There are elements in the Progress party of higher consciousness - they do have good ideas sometimes. So don't get me wrong. Orange is strong there. And there is maybe a (near insignificant) dollop of green there too. And some people vote for them on the base of what good they have to offer, not on their scare tactics. Which means that not all Progress party voters are blue, something of a common misunderstanding (not to mention that there's a time and place for blue politics too)! As any discussion forum on Norwegian newspaper websites will show, green is hellbent on criticizing blue until they go - heh - blue in the face. Anytime someone says something that seems conservative or hostile they scream "Progress party idiot!". Which is equally ignorant. They both thing they have the truth, but in reality they have part truth, path untruths. If only we could put them all in the same blender, mix them up good and hack their belief systems into smaller pieces that can actually squeeze through their barriers to truth, they could be truly integrated healthy people. I wish...
But it has to be said that ALL parties, in Norway and elsewhere, are pretty deluded. They generally inhabit extremes (even those in the middle!) - and their respective politicians are totally incapable of considering someone else's point of view. Have you ever seen a politician in a debate pause and actually CONSIDER someone else's argument? I think not... They're totally cerebral, just spewing their party program with no consideration for what is actually being said by others. Which essentially makes them poster boys and girls for stupidity. Like kids playing in the sandbox fighting for the coolest toys...
In essence, a political party has one purpose - creating a narrow interpretation of reality through which black and white can easily be separated. See, most groups by definition have the purpose of stopping the flow of life. Which means that most groups are created on the Path of Fear. Politics is thus a manifestation of fear. Yes, a necessary manifestation of fear as long as people haven't integrated personal ethics which they can guide their lives with without the aid of laws and regulations, but still a manifestation of fear.
I'm waiting for the day a political party comes along that is created on the Path of Love.
And until that day comes, allow me to leave you with these quotes
There will be no end to the troubles of states, or of humanity itself, till philosophers become kings in this world, or till those we now call kings and rulers really and truly become philosophers.
- Plato
I have gained this from philosophy: that I do without being commanded what others do only from fear of the law.
- Aristotle

don't hold your breath.
i mean this in the best spirit of agreement.
but i agree with your subsequent post.
your frustration may very well lead you to the dead end of cynicicsm.
at the moment you are tripping over your shoelaces. but you know that.
it may be better to preserve one's ideals and speak about subjects we understand well. gathering more information isn't going dispell the confusion.
what can we really do. the pen is mightier than the sword.
or, we could enter the muddy pigpen with high hopes, and in playing 'the game', be taken in by the ferocious jockeying for power.
as you intimated, fear is the insidious driver of power seekers.
and finally, man is a lying animal; he can't help it... survival is instinctive.
the opposite aspiration has more merit objectivly. anyone who can really hear what socrates was driving at will be inspired to work on his own logic, not imagining that he can change the world when he can't even change an iota of his own mechanical behavior.
presence and a passion for truth drive the vertical spiral.
i'm with you eivind.

Hmm.... and that statement is not self-serving, narcissistic and at a lower level of consciousness, not to say arrogant?
Instead of using the integral approach in a constructive way, this is an example of how it can be used in a way that stinks.
Sorry if it seems a little harsh, just wanted to get it out
Uansett, artig å finne andre nordmenn med en interesse i aqal og meditasjon og slike ting. Kommer til å fortsette å lese bloggen din selv om jeg ikke er enig i alt.
Jeg har en blog her, om du er interessert:

Of course not! That's just your shadow self projecting onto me. Which means you must be the self-serving, narcissistic, caveman. And besides, whereas I may be a narcissist, at least I'm a narcissist who's right.
Hehehe, you're not being harsh at all my man. Isn't it time that we break free from the fear of hurting others? And of course you don't agree with everything. Why should you?? You'd be a bleeding idiot if you spent your time reading a blog where you agreed with everything.
Now I see from your blog (looks nice, I may check it again sometime) that you criticize the attitude of followers of Ken Wilber and you use this post as an example of the arrogance amongst these. Now, it may be useful for you to know that I use my blog more or less as self-therapy. If I were to enter public discourse with these ideas, I would change my language quite a bit. But isn't it rather arrogant of you, my man, to think that from the reading of a mere blog post, you've got me all figured out? Isn't it actually a statement of personal contempt to think that I cannot think for myself, that my thoughts are somehow just a washed out rehash of Ken Wilber's? It may come to surprise you that I have a mind of my own and don't rely much on Ken Wilber's philosophy in my personal life.
In fact, I bet you would agree with me if only I used language that was less offensive. If I said "voting today is a matter of picking the lesser evil", I would be using language that several people use, and you would probably not have been offended. Am I wrong in assuming this?
Aren't you just reacting to the force of my statement and not the contents of it? Do you REALLY think that the politicians we have today are fit to deal with the problems of the world? That is, operating from their CURRENT frame of mind. Have you noticed how they cannot listen to each other? And aren't you REALLY thinking the very same thing about many of our politicans? When they pass a law you don't like, what are you thinking deep down, beyond all niceties and ideas of being sweet and innocent? Why bother with that crap? When politcians suggest another traffic toll system around Oslo for the sake of the environment and road maintenance, and we know full well that the money will just vanish with little effect, don't we know for a fact that they have a huge flaw in their thinking, that they need to wake up a little? So why not be true with ourselves?
Is being honest with our thoughts and feelings a sign of arrogance? HONESTLY? Isn't the most humble thing a truly arrogant person could do to express the arrogance truthfully?
Now bugger off
