siv jensen, hydro
...today, current party leader of the Progress party Siv Jensen criticizes the socialist government for intervening in a huge stock option package the CEO of Hydro, one of Norway's biggest companies, was recently granted. She says that at times like these, Norway reminds her of a communist state. Strong words, but I tend to agree. Given the full details of the news story, whether Hydro acted according to the law or sound ethics is questionable. But the government should clearly *not* involve itself with individual cases of dubious business practice - they only lay the foundation and define guidelines to the playing field. Anything else is and should be outside their jurisdiction.
I'm glad that I was given such an early opportunity to nuance my previous fierce statement. Things are always more nuanced than they first seem.
And that's the last time I will touch on politics in a very long time indeed.

Not that I'm approving of states owning (oil) companies, just pointing it out.

I won't take side in this topic since I know too little about the case, but it do seem that the "Jante law" (you should not think you are special), still stands quite strong in Norway.

You know Øyvind, I don't know enough about this case either. The danger with commenting on something like this after gaining only cursory understanding of it is that I miss out on the enormous depth and complexity the complete truth has in any of these cases. I mainly wanted to highlight that the picture is a lot more complex than what I indicated in my previous post.
