It's just life

So why get all worked up about it?

Masculinity-Movies.com, my new project

, , ,

Before summer, I went public with Masculinity-Movies.com/, a website where I go deeper with movies that have powerful ideas about men and masculinity.

It's an exciting project that inspires me, and I'm happy to see that there are others out there who find it worthwhile too.

Have a look if you like. On www.masculinity-movies.com. Who knows, maybe you'll like it :-)

Ciao,

The eighties are back at the movies

The Marine: I can't believe people still make trash like this. Colour-by-number films where the plot is obvious after one minute and you know that the entire point from here on out is for you to hate the bad guys and love the hero, gleefully watching mass murder in the name of justice. In films like these, everyone are bad guys, the characters, the people making them and even the braindead idiots who go to see it.

The Hollywood propaganda machinery is running again, pulling the lowest tricks in the book. I hope this fails miserably at the box office as films like this and all they stand for pollutes this world no end. GAH, it makes me angry.

Awesome films this weekend!

, ,

- "Look both ways" - a complete coincidence that I caught this in the cinema, but dammit - it's god-awesome! Some unbelievable laugh out loud moments and a really nice message on life and death.
- V for Vendetta - finally saw this one. Incredible and very topical - is this our future? It's quite possible. "People should not be afraid of their government. The government should be afraid of their people." There you go. Fight the power

Films to watch

Checking out www.quicktime.com, there seems to be quite a few interesting flicks on the horizon.

BABEL
- This one looks extremely promising. Great actors, an interesting story that's actually worth a damn and directed by the same guy who did Amores Perros and 21 grams. It's gotta be good.

HOLLYWOODLAND
- A film noir somewhat in the tradition of LA Confidential that puts the limelight on the darker sides of Hollywood. If it's anywhere near as good as L.A Confidential, it will be a killer. Shame about Ben Affleck though.

WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR
- Because another film that explores the shady dealings of corporate America and the oil industry can only be a good thing.

TRANSFORMERS
- A trip down nostalgia lane. I don't expect much, but it's friggin' transformers! I hope it will have dinobots!

CASINO ROYALE
- Supposedly, this is a different and darker James Bond. Will it be a rediscovery of the franchise along the lines of Batman Begins? If so, I'll be cueing up.

AMERICA: FREEDOM TO FASCISM
- Because Michael Moore is NOT doing it, yet it seems infinitely more flammable. An Orwellian nightmare is soon upon us from your friends in the US administration. It's another one of those "important" films that may just expose once and for all that in the so-called fight for democracy, the real victim is freedom (can you actually believe we're here - this is like science fiction people!).

SIMPSONS THE MOVIE
- Well, I was a little surprised to learn about this one, but it's Simpsons and that's always a good thing. I keep my fingers crossed.

WORLD TRADE CENTER
- The world needs a different take on this tragedy. Let's hope this story delivers.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
- Actually, I'm joking

And there's more there too. Good times at the cinema ahead.
