Why would the human mind mistake virginity as a virtue rather than a barrier between ignorance and knowledge?

We have tried ignorance for hundred of years. Why don't we try knowledge for a change.
I watch this sex-ed TV show and is incredible the ammount of myth people actually trully believe. Like u can have an abbortion if you take herbal teas. Or how many people try the 'pull out' method.
