As it stands right now, Mario Kart offers a pretty robust list of characters and levels, although half of the tracks available at this time are repeats from older games, which leaves us only with eight newcomers. Characters include Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Toad, Koopa, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, and Bowser. Each character starts with three cars, and three bikes, and as mentioned previously it's kart-only for 50CC races, bike-only for 100CC, and mixed in 150CC. The Mushroom cup is made up entirely of new tracks, including Luigi Circuit, Moo Moo Meadows (a new take on Moo Moo farm), Mushroom Gorge, and Toad's Factory. The Flower Cup is also entirely new tracks as well, with Mario Circuit, Coconut Mall, DK Summit, and Wario's Gold Mine rounding off the package.
The other two cups, however, are made up of tracks from previous games. Nintendo mentioned that half the tracks in the game will be new, while the other half are essentially a "best of" with remade retro levels. Shell Cup includes GCN Peach Beach, DS Yoshi Falls, SNES Ghost Valley 2, and N64 Mario Raceway, with Banana Cup adding in N64 Sherbet Land, GBA Shy Guy Beach, DS Delfino Square, and GCN Waluigi Stadium. There are little changes to the retro tracks as well, including a few added boost and jump areas in Delfino Square, and a bit more open space on Shy Guy Beach.
The final aspect that's worth noting during our kick-off to the next few weeks of coverage, is the trick system. With boosting simplified (and snaking removed; we tried for a few solid laps to do it, and the time it takes to earn the level one boost is just too long) tricking is where pro players are going to set themselves apart. It's as simple as pulling up on the Wii remote when taking off into the air, and it results in a speed boost equivalent to a level one power slide. Tricking can be done with either karts or bikes, and can actually be done anywhere you can catch air, including obviously placed ramps and boost pads, but also including smaller exploits, such as the arm rails of the escalators in Coconut Mall. If you can hop off it, you can trick it. From our experience thus far it's impossible to fail a trick, rather the game will only reward you with one if there's ample time to pull it off. Which trick you do, by the way, is entirely random.

UPDATED INFO:
The game details for Mario Kart Wii are finally officially out from Nintendo, and there's an unsettling confirmation for those who don't think they can abide racing with the Wii Wheel or the Remote.
Control: Mario Kart Wii is compatible with four different control schemes, so players can customize how they want to play:
* Wii Remote Controller (with or without Wii Wheel): Steer by tilting the Wii Remote left and right. Or snap the Wii Remote into the Wii Wheel to transform it into a steering wheel for an intuitive, motion-based control scheme.
* Nunchuk Controller: Steer with the Control Stick on the Nunchuk and use the Wii Remote to accelerate, perform tricks and drift.
* Classic Controller: Mario Kart veterans can let their thumbs do the driving with the Classic Controller. However, players cannot perform certain moves with this control scheme.
* Nintendo GameCube Controller: Experienced Mario Kart fans may also enjoy this familiar scheme, although some maneuvers cannot be performed.
What these "certain moves" are isn't entirely clear—IGN already confirmed that tricks can be pulled off by mashing the d-pad.

UNLOCKING ROSALINA
------------------
There are several possible ways to unlock Rosalina, or one way that no one
is quite sure about. It is a mixture of the following -
- Have a Super Mario Galaxy save file
- Complete Super Mario Galaxy after first creating a Mario Kart Wii save
- Play the game for an extended period of time
I personally unlocked Rosalina after getting Gold on the 100CC Star Cup,
but this could have been fitting into the extended period of time clause.
----------
Star Ranks
----------
You will be ranked based on your performance within the Grand Prix, up to
three stars. You need to one star many of the cups in order to get all the
unlockables, so it is important to know how to get them. To three stars,
you have to win ALL four races and get 60 points, and get very good times
on all the laps. That is it, help yourself to items and what not. Just try
not to obviously fall off the track or hit into walls, as it will slow your
time down.
Note that you do not _need_ 60 points to get ONE star. You can drop a few
points, but as long as you get a decent time and come first it is possible to
get it. Thanks Amphetamine!
To get stars next to your name online, then complete _every_ cup with stars.
All cups with one star gets you one star, two gets two, and three for three.
Note if you have three for all except one, then you will not have three
stars until you get that cup up to scratch.
----------
Gold Wheel
----------
To get a Gold Wheel online, then play with the Wheel (or just the Wii Remote)
online a lot. A lot sounds awfully vague, but after enough races and / or wins
you'll have a gold wheel displayed against your name. Safe.
-----------------
150CC Mirror Mode
-----------------
Getting gold on the first three Grand Prix Modes (50CC, 100CC and 150CC) will
unlock this mode. Basically all the tracks are mirrored, but as you've played
each track by at least three times by now you should be able to tackle these
with relative ease.
------------------------------------
Alternative Title and Ending Screens
------------------------------------
Achieve a gold in every cup for the title and ending screens to change for
good. This includes the dreaded 150CC Mirror mode as well.
------------
Staff Ghosts
------------
Under Time Trial you can unlock a range of charcters and vehicles by either
setting times or unlocking Expert Staff Ghosts (scroll up for a list of
Time Trial unlockables). Normal Staff Ghosts are automatically unlocked and
ready to race against in Time Trial mode for a good thrashing, and beating
these by several seconds unlocks an Expert Staff Ghost. Below is a list of
every track, the Normal Staff Ghost Time, the Unlock Time for the Expert Staff
Ghost time, along with their time and replay video.

I still have fun playing it though!!
If we get more peeps, I am going to move the Unconfirmed peeps to a new race...
Not sure how the games WiFi works right now, but I am thinking we all trade fc's, then log on a a specific time. The top 6 from those two races will go on to final race. Then, winner takes all...
If you have not posted here and you are labeled a maybe, PLEASE POST YOUR CONFIRMATION THAT YOU WILL RACE!! Thanks
