Ubuntu 8.04 on a compaq F763NR PART 2

Saturday I was able to get the notebook hardwired.
After running updates I installed nvidia drivers via the "Hardware Drivers" utility.
Now X looks perfect.
Today my zd1211 based airlink usb 802.11g device can connect to my FON access point. Maybe there was a patch in the updates.
Hong installed flash in firefox and now my father-in-law can read SINA until he needs a nap.
The only thing left for me to fix is the lack of ar5007 support.
I tried moving the hardware switch but the light stays amber.

I've found two disappointments. My in-laws use skype and there's no AMD64 build. I've always wanted to convert them to gizmo project but there are no AMD64 builds of gizmo5.
:-(
I actually have more choice of software on my E51.
-
This afternoon I found instructions to get the AR5007 up.

I was able to make one successful connection to my WPA encrypted FON
The network manager interface in ubuntu is a nightmare. I can save a location but it's never set. scselect on Mac OS X is much better.
Every time I reboot it connects to the FON's open network.
at least now I"m down to one annoyance
