I read blogs for a living

And I think I like it

Columbo

, ,

peter falk as columbo

I know many will bash me for this post, but yes, I'm a nerd. I enjoy playing miniature games, video games, looking for urban street-art, but that's not all: I'm a huge fan of the TV-show "Columbo".

The show is about a Los Angeles police lieutenant Columbo (excellent portrayed by Peter Falk) working in Homicide. He solves his cases through extremely "dodgy" analysis and a disorganized nature that always makes the criminals underestimate him and make mistakes. The great thing about the show is Columbo's "just one more thing....." questions. These were always the ones that would eventually trip the killer up. Presented as almost an afterthought by Columbo, they always trigger the victim off guard and the foul deed is admitted.[1]

It runs every Thursday night on NRK (the Norwegian government-owned radio and television public broadcasting company, and the leading media company of Norway[2]) and usually it's my media highlight of the week.

If you haven't seen an episode of Columbo, you should. I even own a couple of seasons on DVD...

Ok, flame on.

Oh man, yeah. Columbo rules. I used to watch it growing up. I was going to comment on the "Oh, just one more question..." thing before you mentioned it. p

You should check out a movie called Murder by Death. IMDb says this of the plot: "Five famous literary detective characters and their sidekicks are invited to a bizarre mansion to solve an even stranger mystery."

The character of Sam is played by Peter Faulk himself and you can't help but think of him as Columbo. Hilarrrrrious movie!

Oh boy, thanks for the great tip! bigsmile

How can you not help but think of him as Columbo? Even when he's dressed up as a senior living in Florida he's still Columbo. Respect.

Columbo is made of win.

It's great to see that it's socially acceptable for the younger generation to explicit say that Columbo is awesome. People usually look at me in disbelief when I tell them I'm a huge fan of the TV-show. Thankfully My Opera has all the good people.

I like all that crap, though. I was surprised to find that Vikki's 16yr old sister loves Columbo too.

I know many will bash me for this comment. wink

First let me say that I do like the character of Columbo, the idea that under that disheveled bumbling is a brilliant mind who uses his manner and appearance to make criminals underestimate him is inspired.

Peter Falk as well, is a great actor. And he brought the character of Columbo to life brilliantly.

But frankly, I find the show dire. Some performances from the rest of the cast are over the top, and for me it was just too formulaic. There's always the smug, superior villain who's' sure he'll never be caught. And Columbo always does - in exactly the same way. Wouldn't it eventually dawn on somebody that this Lt. Columbo is always in the news for solving murder cases, he must be doing something right.

In the end though, this is just my opinion. Different strokes, etc.
You found a show you like and you have fun watching it. More power to you, Espen.

Now, I'm off to make a post about Mythbusters before I'm mysteriously banned and my blog is deleted bigsmile

I've read it and there's nothing I can do about it. Our developers have been aware of it for a long time. You would be surprised how much we know and concerned we are about bugs. No need for telling me this in caps every time SqueakeyCat. I'm painfully aware of it.

I have seen Columbo in Polish TV when I was a very young girl (as a matter of fact - child). Years passed and I saw Columbo again and again I am in love in this inconspicous man in his old coat...Maybe because with this show smells of my chidhood are coming back...

sry bout that, espen, but i been very irate about the fact that i have been having to use internet explorer just to open my Opera Watched Items list...i can't get Opera to open it at all, it stops dead, and i wind up having to reboot my whole computer.

i miss my opera browser & the community, but bcuz i can get into it with IE for now, i guess im stuck there.

Columbo was fantastic! I tried to watch every show. The fact that he looked like he got lucky just finding the suspect's house, much less solving what looks like the perfect crime! He threw out dumbass questions like "Where did you get such a beautiful couch? Ah...how much does one of those cost?" And talkin' around that stogy butt was hilarious! I wanted one of those old beat up coats, too!

OlgaOlgita Thursday, January 31, 2008 10:47:14 AM

My grandfather liked it so much!!!! smile

I like it as well!smile Especially when Columbo speaks about his wife...? but I`ve never seen his wife in that film!

Have you ever seen Columbo`s wife?wink

Columbo is one my all-time favorite show. I'm a really big fan of Peter Falk.
Here's a link to his website:

I would love to buy some of his art too. It's great.

DonnyQuinnuendo Thursday, February 7, 2008 11:12:36 PM

man Colombo is a good show... yeah as some said it does have a "routine" in it, but basicaly all the murderors think they are very smart and all the rest are stupid, so therefore they won't be scared of the little detective.

I also sometimes think about how the time changed, comparing with today shows. today we have so much more technology for solving stuff, all those DNA and phone tracings and whoknowswhats. And people know much more about their rights, in the sense that Colombo's method is kinda harrasing till you break bigsmile

but ussually very nice wink

and of the newer shows I really enjoy watching Homicide:Life on the Street. that is one very well made show, and also has some drops of humour wink

I watched this as a kid. Great show. I watch "Law & Order, special victims unit" now. I also enjoy CSI but that's not on anymore. Some shows work and as long as they work they won't be changed. up.
