iCal events won't delete - how to fix?

I use iCal to synchronize meeting events and reminders to my Android phone. If I delete an event it's removed for a few minutes before the damn thing pops right back! What gives!? It won't stay deleted. I tried Googling a solution and it seems like a lot of people are having problems with this, but the "solutions" are either outdated or too leet.

What's the solution? Sell my Mac? Migrate to Windows? Linux?

Why not using Google Calendar, since you are already on Android? You can then sync your Google Calendar to iCal, here is how it works:
