I read blogs for a living

And I think I like it

Nintendo Street-Art

Some bloke under the alias "Fredrik" (original, huh?) is apparently doing a Nintendo guerrilla art movement on various locations here in Oslo (and Bergen), Norway. I haven't seen 'em yet, but I've recognised some of the spots and will go scouting this weekend (pictures coming). There has been speculations whether or not the pictures are photoshopped, but to be honest I don't care. It's a great initiative, and I wish more people would do cool retro stuff like this. They sure look photoshoped, but then again, someo of them has traces of what looks like real artifacts on them, like the air bubles, or shadows, which would both imply that they where glued on the walls, and windows. But then on some of them it looks like they are painted, since the "icon" seems a bit transparent and you can see the texture of the material through the icons.

No matter what they did, it sure looks impressive. But we would need higher resolution pictures to tell for sure. Or we need you spending your weekend taking the bus all over the city. I vote for the latter one p

PS: Sorry for having to "steal" your pictures to prove my "point".

I will defo go to Frognerparken and scout for this. If the weather is nice I think this will be an excellent weekend!

Could it be that the transparency on the Mario icon in fact is traces from the wall - and that the sticker (or whatever they've used) is semi-transparent in its consistency?

Hm ... confused

I don't even dare to guess. I am always wrong about these things worried. I constantly get surprised about what people can do on their computers. I do sure hope they are not computer generated in any way though.

While you are out looking for pictures, you should take a trip down to "Aker Brygge" as well. They have an other one of those "Animals in the world" photo exhibitions. Truly amazing photos at the moment.

Thanks for the tip. If I survive my IKEA trip I will head down to Aker Brygge.

Wooow... this is one of the most beautiful thinks I've seen this week (even they are photoshoped or not)!!!

Here in Mexico (particularly in Balbuena Zone) they started doing something like this but using only the Mushrooms and Mario's face as stickers, in black and white, and placing them (that's the think I didn't like that much) in signs as STOP, TURN LEFT/RIGHT, MAX. SPEED, etc.

I'll be looking for those stickers and picturing them... ;)

I collected stickers like this last summer. It calls stencil-art.
I've seen some Mario, Packman and other oldschool games on Berlin streets.

I have seen these things all over the place walking through the city.

Some examples:
- On a transistor box by the crosswalk going from Colosseum Cinema to Majorstua T-bane station.
- On the wall by the wooden bridge where all the drug dealers hang out next to Mecca (I think that's the third one, the one with Mario carrying the green shell)
- The one on one of the pictures here, by the two red benches in the park by the river in Grünerløkka, further up from Blå, right next to a kindergarten.

Yes, they're all cool.

You got to pay more attention guys :-)

I tend to look at girls, not Super Mario...p

Come on man, discipline yourself!

hehe, I sympathize :-)

Actually I saw one close to Opera the other day. If you walk down the Aker river there's a Mario character close to the first tunnel. Good stuff!
