Saw my first Baltimore Oriole of the season yesterday. I'd been hearing them for a while. I love their little song ("Cutie? Pie.") They're so shy, and sing from so high in the trees. Yesterday I finally got a glimpse of the little beauty. For such a tiny bird, its song really carries. It never fails to bring me a smile.
My friend and former coworker, Judy, sent me a message that said "Nice aura". I didn't understand until I clicked the photo to which she referred:

Saw the art, loved it. Sought permission to use the art. Got it. Worked with the art in PatternMaker for Cross Stitch. Created a graph for tapestry crochet. Crocheted it. The picture alone took about 15 hours to crochet. The wings took more time beyond that. The computer work took more time beyond that. This was a BIG project. Donated for a fund-raising auction.

Please fill in the poll, to the right in the side bar.
If you are using "other", you can leave a comment on this note.
Thanks!
update 5/6/07
The poll asked if people were reading this for an interest in knitting,
crochet, sewing, tatting, kid photos, humor, other.
But I can't get the poll to work the way I envisioned it working.

Cleaned out the trunk of my car today. I bet I'd get better gas mileage if
I'd keep the trunk of my car clean. On the flip side of my bad habit of
keeping the trunk full and reducing my gas mileage, I bet I get superior
traction in the winter because of all the stuff in my trunk. You might not
believe the gems I found in the trunk of my car.
One of the things I found was my
Our Lady of Los Lagos candle.
Guess what happens to a candle when you leave it in the trunk of your car
FOR A YEAR.
You got it. It melts.
Angels watching over me... Angels holding back the flood... The melted wax
did NOT get all over my yarn, my fabric, my books, my forgoten paperwork.
No, the angels were holding back the flood. All the wax miraculously stayed
in the candle jar! The wick is totally gone. No way to light the candle. The
candle is an odd shape. With the jar in the proper position, the candle
fills half the jar - VERTICALLY!
Those poor angels. I sure keep them busy!
Now that I've taken the candle out of the trunk (and the yarn, too), those angels
can go do something else. Perhaps they can protect basements from flooding. :-)

I did it. I challenged myself to tat with
Solaractive thread.
I challenged myself to make an entry for the
Shuttlebirds tatting contest.
I tatted a butterfly for the contest, using the solaractive thread.
Not an amazing feat. But - by golly - I did it. And that's amazing
to *me*, frankly.
Photos to come.
Blessings on those who peek at this lame, inactive blog every now
and then. I hope you, dear reader, are well.

Halloween pictures of my JaneOLantern and Sparky, the Fire Dog.
These costumes were sewn years ago for the older kiddos and got a new life this Halloween.

The front of the wedding card for my Tibetan niece's wedding.
Two star gazing yaks. One has a little sway back, but such is the hard life of a yak.
Especially a yak made out of thread and stuck to a card with glue.

I'd like to refine this Yak, but I do like the way she looks right now.
She looks wistfully to the sky, counting the stars, as yaks are fond of doing.
She's about one and a half inches long and about one inch tall.

Last night, kid 4 got a bad cut on the bottom of the right foot by stepping on a piece of glass. Where that glass came from, no one knows. Got the glass out, got the cut cleaned, got the bleeding to slow, got a bandage on. Got the kid's teeth brushed and then....
Then we found a deer tick (the Lyme Disease-carrying kind) on kid 4's neck. Ugh.
Meanwhile, kid 3 got a gusher nosebleed for reasons unknown. It just suddenly started spurting blood.
So we had blood from a foot, blood from a nose, and some screaming kids because of a tick.
On the Plus Side, I forgot all about my sadness for a bit.
Today (Tuesday), kid 4 is sick with a fever. The foot looks OK and there's no ring where the tick had been. So, I'm hoping it's just a little passing something, and nothing big. I'll keep an eye on the foot and on the tick bite area. And if Kid 4 isn't better by tomorrow, maybe we'll see the pediatrician. Kid 4 is just feeling yucky, but not really complaining. Just low energy, not hungry, glassy eyed. The usual stuff. No bad cough, no sick stomach, no complaints of sore throat... So, we'll see.
On the plus side, I have a video that the kids have never seen. (Love that Netflix!) Also, I can get some housework done. No place to be today, but home mothering a sick kid.
I'm grateful, then, even for annoying things like cuts, ticks, nosebleeds, and illness. Goodness knows I have enough housework to keep me busy for a long, long time. I might as well be happy that I have no place I need to be.
