My Death or the Summary of my Life

All or Nothing?

The place where I was born.

http://www.huy.be/Tourisme/Attractions_touristiques/Traduction_ND/_Wallon/Traduction_anglaise/traduction_anglaise.html

Perhaps a site to visit as a tourist. Or if you like as an Opera Member: virtually.

I worked there for 35 long years.

Where did you work or are you still working? Was it a historical centre or an industrial area?

HISTORY CANNOT BE BANNED. IT IS OUR SOUL, OUR WATER, OURS.

FIFINELEB 29. June 2009, 06:57

Hi,Princess Lea. It is summer time and Huy attracts a lot of tourists from Holland,Germany and France and sometimes from Japan. Kind regards to you.

Léazz 29. June 2009, 07:23

Wish i could visit your beautiful place.

PainterWoman 30. June 2009, 22:10

Such a beautiful place Jean. So much history. Would love to see it.

FIFINELEB 1. July 2009, 06:17

Thanks,Pam. You know, a lot of very well-known painters have practised their art in the Meuse valley. Probably because it is picturesque and welcoming.(Paul Delvaux -Gainsborough) Have a very nice week full of inspiration,Pam.

Thanks for those links Jean. You have a nice week as well.

daxonmacs 12. July 2009, 10:30

I 've been there too Jean, a really nice place. In fact I like a lot of places in Namur province.
We used to have a summer house in Dion, just a bit passed Beauraing.
Have a great day.

edit: I live and work here.

FIFINELEB 12. July 2009, 12:50

Thanks for your comment,Dax .I know Dion very well .You remember the old cannon at the crossroads. I used to go to France to Givet to get some wine.
Huy is not as famous as Antwerp of course. I wish you all the best,my friend.

daxonmacs 12. July 2009, 13:03

Huy is famous here Jean.
When in Dion, I used to walk to France, lol.
Givet was a fun town, and I too, got me some wine there. I don't remember the name of the store, but we were guided by our neighbours, big fans of the grapes, as well.

Hi Yoda. Where does the Meuse originate? I lived in Verdun, France for a year while my first husband was stationed there. The Meuse ran through downtown Verdun, and I always enjoyed the sight of it when we were in Verdun.

I think of rivers as being wild and free, running through forests and countryside, as they are in Texas, but this one had concrete verges and walks, and that was a new sight for me. Much more civilized, I guess, than they are here.

FIFINELEB 30. July 2009, 14:43

It originates on the "Plateau de Langres" a very small stream indeed. I went to Verdun too to pay a visit to the ossuary and the Douaumont fort. I was 16. In 1964 or so.

I don't know if concrete is more civilized. Haha.

Nice to see you at my birth place. Kind regards to you Linda.

Linda 30. July 2009, 19:03

Fort Douamont and the Ossaury--that place fascinated me. The Trench of Bayonets left a lasting impression on me and so did the vaults full of bones placed in them higgledy-piggledy. The American Cemetery near there is beautiful and a nice tribute to our soldiers who died fighting for France.

FIFINELEB 30. July 2009, 19:43

I was shocked by the endured sufferings of the Poilus.

Linda 30. July 2009, 20:36

Are you familiar with the underground city running underneath Verdun all the way to the city of Metz? Was off limits to Americans because there are still live ammunition stashes in that warren of bunkers/caverns, put there by opposing German and Allied forces during the war. At least it was that way when we were there. May have been cleaned out by now.

While we were in Verdun, there was two instances of farmers plowing in their fields and being blown up by live mines/ammunition left there from the war.

FIFINELEB 30. July 2009, 20:58

The place is still considered an "open air" cemetery. Corpses of soldiers are still being found regularly as they naturally come out of the muddy trenches and shell holes. A difficult identification duty. And it will last for another 2O years or more.
Is it as dangerous ploughing the fields on your farm? Are there mine fields? I wonder if you will find sleep after such dreadful stories.

daxonmacs 30. July 2009, 21:00

My uncle lives at Poperinge, where massive graveyards of fallen soldiers are situated.
As well as a,n entrance to "God knows where" as they say.
Word is , the royal family owns a key.

FIFINELEB 30. July 2009, 21:25

Hi,Danny. Nice to see you over there. So the key to the Underground World ,the World of no Return. (not the River of No Return with Marylin Monroe) Must be frightening to get in. Kind regards.

daxonmacs 30. July 2009, 21:45

Isn't that called "life" as well?

Linda 30. July 2009, 23:24

The servers that FarmTown uses might as well be land mines Yoda. They have been causing me to lose sleep over my farm. FarmTown has more bugs than a termite hill, as I stated to one of my FT neighbors.

But my farm is looking GOOD. I am becoming a rich farmer.

daxonmacs 30. July 2009, 23:32

That why it's beta.

Linda 31. July 2009, 00:29

Guess so.

daxonmacs 31. July 2009, 00:36

Ohhh, paysant girl!!!!

Linda 31. July 2009, 04:25

Was that an insult?

FIFINELEB 31. July 2009, 06:26

No prob with the drought on your farm,Linda? Enough water to irrigate your plants and fields?

Linda 31. July 2009, 06:29

They are self-watering, Yoda. I DO have to water my flowers or hire someone to do it because they shrivel after 24 hours if not watered.

Linda 31. July 2009, 06:29

I wonder if Danny meant peasant girl?

daxonmacs 31. July 2009, 06:44

Sorry, typo, yes. And on insult intended.
Got hooked on that silly game myself, too.

Linda 31. July 2009, 07:38

Really. You play FarmTown also?

daxonmacs 31. July 2009, 07:42

FarmVille it is called here. And yes, I recently started to play. Still a small farmer though.

Linda 31. July 2009, 07:52

Oh, that is different from FarmTown, I play Farmville also. FarmTown is a lot more realistic and involved. I am level 15 on Farmville, 27 on FarmTown. If you are on FaceBook, you should try FarmTown. Think you would like it a lot better.

daxonmacs 31. July 2009, 07:57

It already demands too much on line time as it is. I'm seeking to reduce my on line time.

Linda 31. July 2009, 17:36

Good luck with that. I seem to get more and more wrapped up in it. Spend more time online than otherwise.
