Ride On Shooting Star

心の声で散弾銃のように 唄い続けた / Translation: With the voice of my heart, like a shotgun I kept on singing.

Some Reviews

, , ,

Hello dear readers of my lame and boring blog . I'll try to write some anime, game, music and appication reviews, although i don't posses the proper dictionary and i'm not very good at expressing my thoughts in written form, but i'll try .

Application Review:

First i'll try to express my thoughts and opinion about Kubuntu. Well, this is Linux based operating system, directed towards desktop users (alot of people are not into command based OS, like me  ) with very userfrendly desktop environment. This OS is part of the project Ubuntu, but the difference between the Ubuntu and the Kubuntu is that Ubuntu useing Gnome desktop environment and Kubuntu is with K Desktop Environment a.k.a KDE. Although the desktop environment (i'll use DE for short) is very nice and userfriendly there are some parts of the DE that you need to get used to. Now about the applications (Apps for short), the most useful part in Kubuntu is the App installer (sorry but i forggot the name `casue my Kubuntu is on my old hard dirve). So this installer searches the net (not the whole net but some county based servers used for GNU/Linux distributions) and creats a list of apps you can download and isntall. When you check the boxes in the list, this sofware downloads these apps and is doing it's job without the need of the "next-next-i agree-finish" part adn also without the need of the most annoying License Agreement part of every Windows instalation (man this License stuff are pain in the ass), and also when you minimize the app and do whatever you want with your Kubuntu and when everything is finished a baloon pops to inform you. If you have problems with your Kubuntu you can search the net for help or to ask the Ubuntu community for help. Now it's time for "what i don't like". The part i don't like about GNU/Linux based OS is that NTFS format is not supported (well, you can install drivers for NTFS but they are not very stable) and you have to use FAT32 which doesn't support files larger than 4 GB. The other negative side is if you're a gamer, like me, there are almost no games for Linux (there is a good Quake 3 based FPS that is maybe the only interesting game for Linux). As a conclusion, if you're fed up with Windows (excludeing gamers from this list) or just searching for a free operating system to use in your office/company, Kubuntu or Ubuntu is perfect for you, and maybe better than Windows, if you want to use it for your Office because you have the oppertunity to download and use Open Office(the best Office pack in the world).

PC Game Review:

Now i'll review another Open Source app, but this time it's a game.
The game is Frets on Fire or also know as the Guitar Hero for PC. As i said it's Open Source game and is multiplatform, so if your with MAC or GNU/Linux you can download and feel what is to be a ROCK star . The game is written on Python with very interesting engine that gives you the oppertuity to import your favourite song from Guitar Hero and play them on your virtual guitar (Keybord), or unlike Guitar Hero III (for PC) you can download already made songs for the game. A short explanation of what is the content of the folder where the sond is kept. There are two .ogg files( if you're into Open Source you'll understand why .ogg not .mp3) the first is the guitar.ogg and the second is the song.ogg, a .midi file with the positions of the notes, .ini file with scores and other stuff and some folders may have and .png file for the label of the cassette (when you download the game you'll see why). If you're a hardcore Guitar Hero fan or a person eager to see what is Guitar Hero feel free to download and install the game. Parts i don't like in the game are that the game is haveing some bugs and that some song are pretty lame done (example Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water by FOF.Spain, sorry guys but the song is totally messed up).
As a conclusion, if your PC is too slow for the Guitar Hero III PC version or if you're looking for more difficult tracks than those in Gutar Hero click on the link, download and play. Oh! and if you're Python developer feel free to help the community.

The other games i'll review are LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Star Wars II The Original Trilogy. This game is one of the most interesting games based on the Star Wars Universe(i'm also a Star Wars fanboy  ), becasue of the unique gameplay and approach. This game is the first one that isn't so serious
but full of jokes and amusing scenes. To cut the long story short, you're a Lego character form the Star Wars Universe and your main goal is to collect more coins and to finish the level. The interesting parts of the game are: to you collect those coins you have to break stuff around you, and also the switching between characters option (you can't complete the level without switching character `cause you need to complete some puzzles and for those puzzles you need a particular character that is always following you). Maybe the best part is the 2 player mode, and belive me a have completed the game 3 times (with a friend of mine, with my brother and by myself) and there is noting better than playing this game with a friend ot relative. The only thing i dislike in the game is the Main Menu, i think it's very annoying, you'll see why when you play the game.

That's all for now, i'll edit this post, add some links and correct my mistiakes tomorrow `casue i'm very tired. Ah! and also i'll write some anime and music reviews tomorrow `casue there are some animes and some albums i'd like to present to you. Hope you like my reviews and please leave a comment after you finish reading it, they'll help me to improve my english and writing skills.

EDIT: Well, i've edited the post so i'll leave the other reviews for later. I'll review Karin and also i'll review Star Wars Legacy Comics and Genshiken Manga.

EDIT 2: Sorry but i'm going to delay the reviews `cause i'm working on my own manga and by the end of the week i'll try to write the pormised reviews .
