Homeless woman lived in man's closet for year
Japanese man became aware of her presence when food began vanishing

TOKYO - A homeless woman who sneaked into a man’s house and lived undetected in his closet for a year was arrested in Japan after he became suspicious when food mysteriously began disappearing.

Police found the 58-year-old woman Thursday hiding in the top compartment of the man’s closet and arrested her for trespassing, police spokesman Hiroki Itakura from southern Kasuya town said Friday.

The resident of the home installed security cameras that transmitted images to his mobile phone after becoming puzzled by food disappearing from his kitchen over the past several months.

WOW!! I've heard about that kind of thing before. I guy I knew was married and had a very young baby. One night he woke up with the baby and found a man inside their house sleeping at the bottom of the stairs by the door. He asked what he was doing there and the man said that he slept there. The door was locked and bolted after that.
Hard to believe that someone would do that unless they had a bit of a mental problem. Sad to think they aren't getting help.

Woa, he is lucky your friend didn't shoot him. :eyes: We always keep the doors locked, though I have known people that never locked their doors when I was in Texas.

Now that's a landlord's dream come true. A year? Can you imagine being confined in such a small area and in darkness....she must have really needed to feel safe. Sad though, when you think about it.

I have to wonder too, how often the tenant was home that it took him that long to figure out he had a house guest.
And, how often did HE clean his closets out???

And she had to be showering along with midnight snacking, because if she wasn't, the smell would have been unbearable.

So many theories here. I could/am running with this one. This is amazing.
It had to be an attic. That would make more sense.

Hey, thanks Marcus, as always, interesting/entertaining and oh yeah, thought-provoking articles!!!!  :D

Who has ever been homeless in their lives? If you have not.. then think hard and get rid of your plush life for one second of thought. Think what it would be like? Live it right now in your thoughts, and imagine that you have been homeless for atleast a few years. Please don't rationalize or think anything but that thought right now..think...

There..

If you use your head and intelect you may get the feel of what it is like. Now this lady saw an oppurtunity and was desperate..,
although this does not justify her actions. The homeowner maybe should of helped her better. Oviousely a burgler would of stole stuff and left,
this woman gave up, trying to meet her needs. Maybe the resources she tried to help her were not great, or the help she tried to get fell through. There are situations in peoples lives that unless you walk in there shoes, you will never truly know the struggle of getting off of the street and becomeing self sufficent.

If I found her in my closet I would of gave her more food, and water and allowed her to have her last shower, buy her some new clothes, tell the cops I will not and wish no charges on her. Then I would try to contact her immediate family. I would give her help on something better than knowing that she went to jail on taxpayers dollars and will be released on the streets with no one giving a care. Jail is for real criminals, she was desperate of meeting her needs. The bill of her stay is paid by God Almighty, and maybe she'll get the help she needs to get on her feet, because of this story. And I hope my thoughts will encourage someone to pray for her or someone to actually really help her.

To everyone that may be a future homeless person, we hope not, but if so..good luck!

Hi Fisher, I've never wished anything bad on the lady in this story. I do hope that she is getting the support that she needs.
