Report from cop who slammed bicyclist posted online

Read the rest of the story here.Clarification: I mistakenly dropped a word when commenting on whether the officer made any hand gestures to signal the bicyclist to stop. The sentence should have read that the officer made no hand gestures.
Kudos to The Smoking Gun for posting a copy of the arrest report filed by New York City policeman Patrick Pogan.
He's the officer who a tourist videotaped body slamming a bicyclist in what appears to be an unprovoked attack last Friday. The case is rapidly playing out on YouTube, where the clip has been watched nearly 900,000 times since Sunday night, when it was posted.
This is why I love the Web and I respect The Smoking Gun. They get paper. Thesmokinggun.com is famous for posting copies of important documents before anybody. They let readers decide for themselves what people say by publishing court filings, e-mails and memos.
I saw the video earlier on YouTube and could hardly believe it. Some members of the NYPD are bad apples that give the rest of the cops on the force a bad name. There have been reports in the past of cops abusing their power. A co-worker of mine had several runins with NY cops. He calls them arrogant SOBs. When you read the police report filed by the cop who body slammed the bicyclist, he lies more than once on the report. He claims the bicyclist hit him, knocking him down and giving him lacerations. That clearly did not happen on the video. The cop even claimed that he saw the bicyclist weaving in and out of traffic almost causing some wrecks. The traffic looked stopped to me in the video also. The cop never tried to gesture, or voice, anything to the bicyclist about stopping for him. This looks like a clear case of police brutality, which does not surprise me about hometown cops. The cop is currently suspended while the NYPD investigates. He needs to be fired for assaulting the bicyclist and for lying multiple times on the police report he filed. If he did these things once, he will do it again unless he is fired.

Can we say bi-polar? OMG WHAT A FREAK!
My step father was a man of the law and he was also a weird-o like that. He was abusive and a power/control freak as well.
I have a feeling that just because the officer was walking, he expected the guy on the bike to stop, and when he didn't slow down, the officer just reached out and pushed him instead of STOPPING his own body. Hello?! Again.....what a freak!

Hi Lois, that is what I was wondering too.

That's fucked. I've been out of the loop. The cops here in New Orleans are the same or worse. They would've shot at him here.

Hey Dillon, sounds like you got the same problem with cops there too. Not all cops are buttheads, but these guys need to fired!

My intention is not to degrade in any way, the hard work and endless sacrifice that our men and women in blue are well known for, on the contrary, I believe their jobs are extremely stressful and therefore should be 'checked' more often for 'burn out' which can occur with little to no warning. And as is evident...does!!!
Their Psych Evals are lacking and timing is way off and this means we are not being protected and are at high risk for our lives being in danger.
Where I live, my county, the sherriff's department is in charge and they are awesome in every way and in every situation. But, we all get a little nervous if a situation occurs inside the city limits because then the city has to be called out and their training is as different as day and night. Their hot-headed, trigger happy and possess no diplomacy.
In fact, I was threatened by some psycho and after speaking to the Chief of police in the city, (where my office is and where the incident occurred) he told me point blank that they could do nothing until a violent act, actually occurred. (I had to be shot or killed first)
I then proceeded to ask him if the situation was reversed and this same psycho was beating on HIS door and HIS windows, threatening HIS wife and children, if he would then take action against this lunatic. He asked me to LEAVE and told me our conversation was over, so Jill did what only I could do to properly respond to his insulting tone of voice and uncaring attitude....
I waited until he went back into his office, walked around to his office window, and proceeded to bang on his windows screaming obscenities and threatening to wait for him to leave, follow him home and then my plan of action was to (do the same, word for word, that I was being threatened with) which is much too strong to even post here.
Surprise: he and 4 other city cops flew out the front door and TRIED to place me under arrest for attempted assault, threatening to do bodily harm and a few other charges he spewed out while stammering.
I then asked him why this situation was ANY different than the one I described that I was going through and why wouldn't he take action when the threats were directed to me????????
My words were strong and of course only spoken to make a point and it's really sad that I had to take this, this far, to get his attention and investigate the lunatic that had been threatening my life.
Conclusion;
My situation WAS investigated and within a few days there WAS an arrest made. This person drew a weapon on one of the officers and was winged.
But, what if my words and actions were not strong enough to capture their attention and force action...I would probably be the one shot and would most likely not be writing this right now.
I didn't mean to turn my response into a short story Marcus, I just got carried away reading these articles and so many memories came pouring through, so I'm sorry for this part response/part vent, here.
But, thanks for reading.
Some cops should turn in their badges. Some remain to make us proud.
There should be severe consequences for a public servant who is supposed to be protecting their citizens, but are abusing them.
This is such a different world. More people-more stress, more crime-less time and training.
God help us all...
Peace my friend...

I agree that the loose cannon in that video should be prosecuted for, not only his actions but for falsifying a police report.
I'm going to follow this one! Yep, time will tell!
Nite, Nite
