Malevich Black Square in Opera

, , , , , , ,

Today I want to present one of my favourite Opera bugs in fun way. And because I see this bug during around 3 years (since first Opera 7 beta appears) I want to give this beatiful bug his own name - Malevich Black Square bug. :D

So, first of all test page where we can see four Acid Smiles  Two of them (first and third) are images and other two are DIVs with image set as background.
Now funny part. Where Malevich Square here? Just change zoom on the page in your Opera browser or print out the page (needs Print Page Background option checked).
Last Acid Smile now will appears as black square! :eyes:
I investigate this bug and found that it appears only if GIF image
  • has only black color and transparency
  • puts as background
  • need to be smaller than 64x64 px

Have fun! :D

Also read forum post about this bug.

Hello Andrey,

I see that you have been very careful and thorough in documenting this problem.

Has this bug been fixed yet?

I am also very frustrated with some Opera bugs.
I spend hours creating test cases but very few people care.

I'm not giving up, yet.
I think the developers must fix basic bugs timely.

Moi otetz rodilcya okolo Kieva.

Thanks for comment Jeffrey!
No, this bug still there - in Opera 9 final. :frown:
I spend many hours to build test cases too. And sometimes they actually fix the bugs. But anyway at that moment it's fun for me too - build test cases. :D
Do you have links to your test cases? It's would be interesting for me.
P.S. Рад видеть здеть кого-то русскоговорящего!

Does he have to make one blog post to opera developers (olli was one for them) start to look at us ??

there are some bugs out there since the beginning and nothing.

Added new site to a list: http://kurafire.net/learn/archive/2005/12/intro
I don't believe anymore that Opera developers will fix this in any 9.0x releases. :frown: So, we will see if they managed to fix this in next major version...

seifip 23. October 2006, 18:16

The bug is still here in first Opera 9.1 weekly build :/

Just noticed that new design on digg has icons that appears on black background when zoom != 100%. Horrible!
Opera should fix this bug in Windows version ASAP!

...And because I see this bug during around 3 years (since first Opera 7 beta appears)

You should update this. I have seen this bug at least since Opera 6.

FataL 6. March 2007, 16:42

JuergenJ, no, this bug was introduced in version 7.

JuergenJ 6. March 2007, 19:46

hmm, yes, I tested again and wonder which pretty old bug I mixed up.
May be this one? (Since Opera 3)
