gnome

Gnome 3.0 will be next big step in Linux evolution and just want to point out how it should look. I hope that developers will learn from KDE mistakes and don't make user interface dumb with fat menus. MAC OS X is the best of the best it just use big icons on the bottom and that's about it you can't get more simple than that. I will try to do a muckup on Gnome 2.28 the toolbar is very flexible what can do so just try it for it self if you like, right click on the toolbar. Gnome 3 will be going for Gnome Shell interface using Clutter and many other things, the sponsor of Clutter is the Intel it self and least one year from now before Gnome 3 will be used anywhere.

I'm not a heavy user of OpenOffice but it looks like PlayStation gamepad masked as mouse. Anyway nice touch by Opensource community it's about time to get some paychecks. Not sure but main click buttons looks small are you sure about this Sun.

sites, loading, speed, web

I was getting a hunch how to speed up web sites loading when i was using Windows XP under Virtualbox on Ubuntu and after installing all sorts of drivers and defragmenting that virtual drive and it was that turbo download speed will not help but lower hard drive latency will. The funny thing is that i was getting 6ms access time on 5400rpm Hitachi drive that is probably at lest at 15ms and web sites loading was doubled under virtualization. The problem is how to address this with SSD drive or Raid 0 configuration with HDD. How to test how much your bandwidth has been used for a web site, you can do this with Opera browser and setting status bar as Show inside address bar. I was getting below 150KB/s on my 300KB/s download line so that is less than 50% on local test. Yes SSD my fix this trick but for current prices and capacity and fragmentation problems that haves is not such a good idea. Before investing in more core CPU consider getting a better drives with RAID 0 config with two identical hard drivers that will make things faster. Computer speed is like gold is never cheap.
PS: Optimized HDD.

thubnail, bug, preview

Ubuntu users may experienced that simple folder with media files will failed to show files because preview module is failing for multi files. So for the best will be that you disable preview at all, there is no magic cure for this at lest not yet i'm not a Ubuntu doctor. Look in folder for Edit/Preferences/Preview and set Show thumbnails to Never or if it works let it be as it is.
