Big River Man

, , , ...

Well this guy makes me laugh. He comes from Slovenia and he already swam half a world i think, so watch your closes river it maybe Martin Strel in it. His like a man-fish, more in the water then on dry land and yes looks fat well must be for cold protection and easier to swim probably. After watching the actually documentary Martin swam Amazon river 5268km or 3273 miles and he holds 4x Guinness World of Records by now! penguin:drunk: LINK

A word for environment

Get ready for really worm winters. If you heard about polars caps melting this is it. Yes we can use ECO friendly fuels, electricity or some type of gas to reduce CO2 outcome, i think that cars are not the problem but big engine machines are that are in use for transport or for building things. Anyhow this big massive machines put out way more CO2 than a small city is so what's the point, some planes can run on ECO fuels is that even safe. I get this idea over Discovery Channel they are always exploring something and big massive machines are part of there many shows. Pack your bags ladies and gentlemans we are moving to north, south pole and Mars pronto what ever will be your favorite destination. PIC LINK

2012 movie

2012 movie is the movie of all movies, before seeing take a depth breath and i mean that. Comes from the hands of director of Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day. Can't say any more about it, it's epic beyond epic, it's the movie of all times and last you will ever see. 2012 year is coming, see you there or maybe not.:o: LINK

Pristy Tools 2010

,

I started this project about 10 years ago, back then it was simple and basic software. I came across with Visual DialogScript on a big and heavy computer magazine PC World or something similar to that. Anyway i was curios how to make .exe file on Windows machine and that was that. My Tools involved over hard work on many Windows versions to latest one. If you like to try them out you can do that by downloading Beta Release from main site, just type Pristy Tools in Google. So what are they, what they do and how to use them, every tool by it self have a job to do and it do it just nicely and fast. I like to use Web Assistant and others too. LINK

Pristy Tools contains:
Web Assistant, System Powerless, PC Detector, Tweak-Win, Memory Clean and File Wipe-out.

Moon water

,

NASA found water on the Moon about 24 gallons or 90 liters so they are not sending tourists for a swim in a full swimming gear just yet. What can we do with it, all liquid is not automatically means water maybe Russians left some Vodka reserves there, they ware drunk on last space mission and forget about it. Maybe is just some rocket fuel left from movie Red Planet they spill some when using it. Earth has enough water for now or maybe not, polar ice caps are almost gone so we have plenty at lest for penguins and space left for more oil rigs so no big deal. So get your car ready for wash and toilet to flush with Moon water it doesn't get any better than this. LINK
PIC: Liquid mouse, maybe can we fill that too with Moon water?

W3C validator

,

This will check your web site for correctly placed web standard. A lot of web sites have errors beyond 100 and all that markup errors is slowing down web browser performance. Only about a dozen web sites get away with only 10 errors or less. Yes i understand that web site content is constantly changing and there is no time for second checks but main site engine can be always tide up little bit and put on validation. Yes validator can also screw up the compatibility view and brake special fixes for other browsers too but can also speed up things by 20% and in some cases maybe more. I also understand that some web sites use special coding that gets things done and some are just non-creative. Maybe will HTML5 fix some things or not. So what sites actually pass W3C validation they are W3.org and Opera.com and that's about it so what will happened when IP6 will come out and am guessing that things will go even slower so what's the point getting turbo network line if it don't matter and will be like putting butter on margarine it will not get any smoother than that.bug COMBO LINK

PS: If using visual editor enable W3C markup check up, some newer editors may support that.

Speed up loading web sites

, , ,

I was getting a hunch how to speed up web sites loading when i was using Windows XP under Virtualbox on Ubuntu and after installing all sorts of drivers and defragmenting that virtual drive and it was that turbo download speed will not help but lower hard drive latency will. The funny thing is that i was getting 6ms access time on 5400rpm Hitachi drive that is probably at lest at 15ms and web sites loading was doubled under virtualization. The problem is how to address this with SSD drive or Raid 0 configuration with HDD. How to test how much your bandwidth has been used for a web site, you can do this with Opera browser and setting status bar as Show inside address bar. I was getting below 150KB/s on my 300KB/s download line so that is less than 50% on local test. Yes SSD may fix this trick but for current prices and capacity and fragmentation problems that have is not such a good idea. Before investing in more core CPU consider getting a better drives with RAID 0 config with two identical hard drivers that will make things faster. Computer speed is like gold it's never affordable.:irked:

PS: Optimized HDD. PIC

Ubuntu Tip #13: Ubuntu Software Center

,

This is the all-new downloader in 9.10 just type in search for your favorite missing function. Where? is right there on first menu as last option like Add/Remove was before and by my humble opinion i think that Linux is no longer just on geeks turf.

Ubuntu Tip #12: Fix missing menu icons for 9.10

, ,

Right click on desktop, click Change Desktop Background, use Interface Tab and enable Show icons in menus.

Distro mania

,

What is what and who is who?
Main distros: Ubuntu (Canonical), Fedora (Red Hat), Suse (Novell)
Based distros: Mandriva is Red Hat based, Mint is Ubuntu based...

If i let someone out like Gentoo and Slackware i apologies. Now the crystal ball is becoming clear. I'm in dilemma what to use, currently i'm testing Fedora and dislike Home Folder functions they are the same as they ware in Windows 95 and no OpenOffice by default. Linux is no near to be a splipstream that's the problem so many choices are out there, maybe loading the latest what ever it will be is the best possible scenario but installing new and possibly different distro every couple months is a bit disturbing.:faint: LINK

PS: Maybe just maybe if Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu can run from the same live DVD that can be total 2.1GB so that user can test what ever suits best for him, this will be the excellent choice what to use and help saving earth at the same time from all that home made burn Linux CDs. Linux is like clothing store you can try and change many things.

Mint 7 Review

,

First impressions after install from me are bad. This distro is Ubuntu based and probably Suse too not a very good combination. It will add firewall option if you really need that. After install i look for Mint update it gives me 261 updates so i install them it take about 10min on 300KB/s ok i can go with that. The first thing i noticed that is kind of slow responsive and when i try to force it, it give me some useless massage "Could not grab your mouse" and even updates did not help. The menu is complex with small icons that's not very helpful, favorite shortcuts can be done but what for that menu can be navigated better well that's a bit wasteful. They support Mono project that i think should be excluded from community (Silverlight plug-in). About wallpaper they just use green tint on blue water wallpaper that you can find it with Google. Me using this distro is a long shot and i think that Mint 8 it wont get any better than this. Can't say anything positive about this distro, some dark forces are behind it so i suggest you avoid it, it's a time waster.:ko: LINK

I give this distro 2/5 stars.

About 3D Realms and the Duke

,

After searching the net and trying to find some people from 3D Realms and get some answers what actually happened to Duke Nukem Forever and why was never released. What was heard and read they lost there money cow from publisher so end of story. Maybe was project just to ambitious and eventually give up the soul. To clear up some things 3D Realms is developer, Take2 is publisher and what is Apogee Software i don't know so why they let go Duke Nukem to passed away i again don't know. Was to hard to buy Unreal 2 Engine back then and pay that 350.000$ for licensing. They made Prey after 10 years when first announced with Doom III engine so was to hard to use this engine anyway ??? So if main developer group fall apart there is no way to see the Duke in action again, maybe they will sold source code on Ebay to some game fanatic or game studio that will eventually come to epilogue of this saga of Duke Nukem. They just vasted publishers money and produce some video teasers and that's about it, here are some leftovers of 3D Realms and i hope they just evaporate. COMBO LINK

Update: Here is some more info LINK, looks like they planed Duke Begins too this one from Gearbox well even that did not help anybody or anyone!

Total list of companies involved is ridiculous: Apogee, 3D Realms, Take2, 2K Games, Gearbox and Gathering.

Mandriva One 2010 Gnome series preview

,

This distro completely blow my mind away that everything works out of the box without any funky boot errors or flashing wallpapers at boot like Ubuntu 9.10 may have. They added some nice features like Inkscape and Cheese (vector graphics and webcam). The install is very simplistic and will have some options to select at first system boot so be a little bit careful what you select i extendedly lock my self out when selecting wrong localization and when set to right after install the password stopped working. I welcome the configuration panel is very good to use and this is the legacy of Mandrake i presume. Installing scanner was very easy i just select firmware file from scanner install CD .bin over wizard and that's about it. The same goes to my HP printer it install full set of support. Mandriva have nice look like KDE3 and it's the good old Gnome anyway. If somebody will miss games they are not on the menu after install can use Install & Remove Software for all you can eat buffet loading. LINK

I give this distro 5/5 stars.
:star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

PS: Set boot up menu delay to 1 (install option somewhere) and don't use 0 it will full stop the bootloader.

Ubuntu 9.10 Review

, ,

The 64-bit install i used for the first time and it went just fine. New Ext4 file system is still a bit rough and raw at the same time. I noticed some white empty missing icons from live install and when was system done installing the System menu did not have any icons at all. This problem was fixed by selecting Show icons in menus and they ware back. I can't say that the boot is a lot faster but my laptop have not supported resolution error at boot that fixes it self but looks like this is making just more slowdown. Second i don't like color transition background wallpapers at boot because if you have laptop or low angle view LCD display it will show bad color transition gradient.

The 32-bit release is a bit nicer to use and is the standard download of Ubuntu anyhow. I fixed my usplash boot error over /etc/usplash.conf and go for 1024x768 for the boot resolution. Looks like Ubuntu is going through some transition period sure that's normal but may also have not fully done boot loader Grub2 v1.97 Beta4. So what can i say about 9.10 release it's better, faster and just little bit rough on the edges. Ubuntu Update Manager also offers direct upgrade and download to new version to prevent any data loss or time wasting with clean install. The next version will be Ubuntu 10.04 LTS as the big release that happens only couple years and i hope that this one will finally adopt some nicer fonts too for better outcome.:o: PIC LINK

I give this distro 4/5 stars
:star: :star: :star: :star:

PS: To make this distro really shine install some quality fonts and Ubuntu Studio Theme it's definitely worthed. You can still switch to another theme if you dislike it.

Ubuntu Tip #9: Adding better fonts

,

Ubuntu comes with some hideous fonts that makes web sites look very bad.:psmurf:

Just open Terminal and add:

sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts

AMD core unlocking

, ,

Unlocking AMD CPUs is looks like the new sport. If you have this type of CPU check in BIOS for ACC option that stand for Advanced Clock Calibration and set it to Auto. This option is part of overclocking function and will not rise the frequency of CPU but will optimize the cores on AM3 socket CPUs. Some of the locked cores they may just show up and maybe if you're lucky even more cache on standard AMD Phenom II X4 CPU. Eligible for unlocking are any AM3 AMD CPUs with south bridge SB710, this chipset can be found on any AMD780 and up boards. Good luck!:wizard: LINK

Windows cleaning

,

Windows never hold up the speed more than 2 months if you do a lot of copy and install. So it's recommended that you clean your system thoroughly with CCleaner and WinSysClean. This tools are out long enough that is safe to use them and only this will speed up your system like it was at first run/install stage. If you got stuck with uninstall problems try free Revo Uninstaller. My simple advice is to uninstall what ever you don't need, that will clear out the hard drive and speed up things considerably. Cleaning will also remove hidden backup viruses if any, always have active anti-virus on your system like AVG or Avast. Defragmenting hard drives is not my first choise of tuning things up but if you don't move your data around a lot you can try this also but remember any cached files from web browsing will create fragments again. COMBO LINK

Ubuntu Tip #8: Text encoding fix

, ,

Ubuntu don't support ANSI text encoding so if you have text documents from Windows it's probably saved with ANSI type and can't be displayed properly. You can open this documents with OpenOffice and a window will show up with all encoding possible with a preview sample in the bottom then select one and scroll throw with cursor keys until your local characters appears correctly.

PS: If you dislike the frame around document just look for text border view option and disable it.

Ubuntu Tip #7: Virtual Windows

, ,

Putting your Windows XP CD to work with Ubuntu it's very easy just install VirtualBox from Add/Remove. Create new entry, and select XP than you must create fixed disk size that will bring the speed and don't make it very big about 6GB will be fine. Start the new entry, select XP CD and install from it. When install is done you must install some drivers to get the best possible speed from it, start with Install Guest Additions from the menu on sub-window of VirtualBox. This will add display driver and get higher resolutions possible, then you need to download Intel mainboard drivers they are combo so it don't matter what you download just use the latest one. VirtualBox offers AHCI support too, you can skip this or enable under settings on VirtualBox it self, before doing that, look for Intel AHCI drivers first. When you have all this covered start disabling some of Windows XP features like System recovery, display effects that are animate and slide that will speed up things considerately. I was getting 300MB/s after defragmentation with ordinary laptop hard drive so why not doing that also, just use internal util under hard drive properties. That's about it and i prefer this option, it's a lot better than using Wine emulator. PIC COMBO LINK

PS: Try creating ISO image from CD/DVD that will bring faster install and if Virtualbox icon is missing after install you must reboot the system.

Ubuntu Tip #6: Adding Studio Theme

, ,

Ubuntu Studio is separate distro of Ubuntu but if you like you can add just the theme. Copy&Paste in Terminal as usual...:drunk:

sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-desktop && sudo apt-get install

I like it for icons, small fonts and endless blackness. This theme was design for professional use so it's more than just a perfect black theme it will also add custom boot logo, more desktop wallpapers and some click sound events too. PIC

Make your own Music TV party

, , ,

Download popular music videos over Vuze there you can find high quality HD .mkv formats. This format it's just container format of Xvid video and AC3 audio for best quality. Next thing on list is open your favorit media player what ever it is and put videos in playlist and play it as loop that's about it. It depends what and how you use your software with HDMI output or with subtitles for title all this can be done very easily. Why use not legal MP3 if you can use music HD videos on big screen TV with home cinema speakers for your party. :hat:  :drunk: wine :sing: PIC LINK

PS: If you have Philips Ambilight even better this TV have special ambient light effects.

Ubuntu Tip #5: Config for laptop

, ,

Ubuntu by install may not config any power management support. Open Power Management on main menu under System/Preferences and enable suspend for lid down. Add CPU Frequency Scaling monitor (right click on panel) and battery icon to taskbar panel (option in Power Managment). If battery is not properly detected install acpi with: sudo apt-get install acpi and type acpi --everything to get the info from it. PIC

Security plan for your system

, ,

1: Install active anti-virus software like AVG Anti-virus or Avast they are both free and very good.
2: Look for Windows Update icon and use that for latest updates or open wupdmgr.exe from run option under Start and set it to active updates if not active already.
3: If you have download activities check what you share at the same time.
4: Recycling your data over period of time.
5: Use file shredder tools to overwrite you data, Pristy Tools has one.

PS: Try some Linux distros they are more than secure.

How to install Ubuntu on laptop?

, , ,

First check your system for compatibility and try Ubuntu in live mode that's the first option on CD. Download Ubuntu or any other of top 5 build around Debian source is the best way to go. When you have the .iso burn it to CD/DVD with image burn don't just put that file on CD. To boot from CD/DVD check bios for boot load from optical drive or try the last 7+ function keys if they can show boot menu. I recommend modern system with at least 512MB of RAM for good user usability. So why use X on your system if it runs you will be care free, that's the big trade-off just go with flow and what can this system offer you. If you can install junk over junk on W. there is no bigger challenge that bring that knowledge to open source with better usability at the end. Go to store right now and buy your self a laptop with the right price for you and load with Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, Suse, Mandriva or gOS, before doing that check if you have backup CD from W. that you will not end up with buying more W. So what's my distro recommendation that's a bit hard to know what you like just click the link at the end and let the open source lead your way.banana COMBO LINK

Internet security and anonymity

, ,

After watching Canadian Web Warriors documentary they talk about how viruses works and do and can do. When i try to seek any .pdf documents through FrostWire or LimeWire they are the same software but FrostWire is free i get allot of documents with just searching for .pdf extension. Many people are using this software for mp3 jukebox and at the same time they share "My documents" folder as up load that's wrong thing to do. This way you expose your system for possible attacks, never share something that's your personal nature and isolate that to USB flash key device that's not frequently use. Passwords are not secure also on this days computers and password recovery software it's possible to decode probably anything. Always update your software protection and system updates it self it's a very smart thing to do. Old software is bad software and very vulnerable for web attacks. Try some online anti-virus scanners for better protection.:left: COMBO LINK

PS: Avoid FrostWire and LimeWire it can be infected with trojans.

Ubuntu Tip #4: Extensions

,

Linux have many executable extensions .run,.bin,.tar.gz2. and can't be started with just a double click the last one is archive you can click on that. First try with right click on file and Open with other application then click Use custom command and add sh then just click Open.:wizard:

Alternatives are:
cd ~/Desktop
chmod +x Unigine_Tropics-1.2.run
sudo ./Unigine_Tropics-1.2.run

cd ~/Desktop
chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin
sudo ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin

Ubuntu Tip #3: Transforming bottom toolbar to MAC style

Ubuntu Tip #2: Adding stuff

Audacity (sound editor), Chrome (WWW), Deluge(Torrent), FileZilla (FTP), Google Gadgets (widgets), Google Earth (maps), IBM Lotus Symphony (office), Inkscape(vector animation), Kompozer (HTML editor), Lives (video editor), Opera (WWW), Scribus (DTP), Skype (phone), Ubuntu Tweak (tweak), VirtualBox (virtual systems), VLC Media Player (video), X-Plane (flight simulator)...
All this and much more can be added with Add/Remove aka Ubuntu Software Center or Ubuntu Tweak and some directly from home site of software it self, every thing with extension .deb can be added very easly. Pidgin is the messenger if you're looking for that support and it use up to 16 different services just look under Internet main menu for it. LINK

Ubuntu Tip #1: Adding Scanner support

, ,

1: Open Terminal type Sudo -s to gain full access
2: Install MC with apt-get install mc
3: Type MC and create /usr/share/sane/your-scanner-title-folder/
4: Insert your CD with drivers and search for your-scanner-name.bin
5: Copy your-scanner-name.bin to /usr/share/sane/your-scanner-title-folder/
6: gksu gedit /etc/sane.d/your-scanner-title.conf
7: Edit the line firmware /usr/share/sane/your-scanner-title-folder/your-scanner-title.bin

PS: When you first try XSane will put error out with your scanner title use that as a guide.

They are 3x choices Adobe Media Player, Vuze former Azureus and Miro. They all shows high quality videos that is better then YouTube. Adobe mostly covers TV stations and internet networks, categorized by popular selection. On the other hand Vuze brings more to the table with videos over Bitorrent services. Batman Arkham Asylum review

Batman Returns was one of the first games that i bought back then in 1993 for 486 system it came on 5 floppies or maybe more. Batman Arkham Asylum is the latest creation if this game genre. Graphics is improved by a big leap from VGA to modern display with support for all new popular Geforce Physx. Gaming part of this new Batman is bit dumber non stop clicking with mouse when in action that i don't see any point, graphics is perfect by the way and shows a lot of detailed textures. PS: To get Combo link properly working in IE: Alow all Pop-ups from 1Link.in then Enable Open Pop-ups in New Tab from IE internet options.
