Cerak 2012

Last weekend i was running a sprint race in Belgrade, category M21E. Just an ordinary cup race. I Made one big mistake at 1st control, really retarded one. Then I made +15 seconds on 4. because i was indecisive. Then bad routechoice at 6, bad leaving point at 7. and lack of speed in general. As you can see my race was full of small and big mistakes, and i ended up in 10th place +2 minutes to the 1st spot, which was won by Andrea Bruno. Now comes 1 month without races where i will work on my speed and stamina, so i can be ready for favourite part of the season smile

Arandjelovac 2012

This weekend i participated in 2 races organized by Ok Dif in Arandjelovac, city 45 min driving time away( I was driving wink)

First day was The national championship in sprint distance, which was held in a park area of the city. I was running in M18-20 because i knew i didnt yet have the speed for the sprint races, which was true in the end. I finished the race on 4. position with the time of 13:47, 1'20" behind the winner Nikola Bilic. I just couldn't hold the pace i had on the couple of first controls,I had 2 big mistakes at controls 6. and 17. and many little mistakes which resulted in my bad time with about one minute of mistakes. I was watching my watch during the race, and i just couldnt lower my heart rate under 195 bpm which resulted in hard breathing and low pace...

Second day i was running in M21E, since it was middle distance, and my club needed points, since I'm registered in this category. I knew i couldn't do anything here because of my current condition, but I tried to push as strong as my body was letting me. I finished on the 12th position 16 minutes behind the winner Blazo Maksimovic. I was actually surprised how good could i do, because i made a couple of big mistakes which costed me 7 extra minutes.First mistake i made on the first control, second was bad routechoice to 7. third was standing on the wrong hill on 10. fourth was bad direction to 11. and 2 minutes of not knowing what the f.. am i doing on 20. ( I was really tired and thirsty so it led to my brain numbing bigsmile)

All in all, it was a pretty interesting weekend, and i think I'm slowly getting back in my old running form. Next weekend is another Serbian cup race, and it's a sprint, so i'll be having 2 tempo trainings to achieve some speed smile

Rajac 2012

After 4 months of pause because of sickness, this weekend i ran my first pair of races for this season( Last week i was running a race in my hometown, but it can't really be called running, it was jogging)

So i won't write much about the races or my sickness...I came to this competition only to test my strenght before my training starts.First day i made 3 minutes of mistakes on the 2. post and on the 5. post, i had a good pace on flat, and downhill areas, but i still can't runuphill. You can see the map from day 1 HERE I finished at the 4. spot with 26 minutes, 4 minutes behind Barkasz Daniel, 3 minutes behind Bilic Nikola and about 30 seconds behind Alex Blejdea. I was really schocked when i saw the results because of the small gap, and me not having a single training since january.

Second day, my goal was to get in one of top 3 overall positions. I made 2 minutes of mistakes on the posts 7. and 10.(I wasn't really sure if that was the road where i wished i to be, so i was walking some for half a minute) I succeded in my goal, finishing with time 27:37 on the second place that day, 3 minutes behind Barkasz Daniel but only 30 seconds ahead of Bilic Nikola, and Alex was far, far behind, which gave me 3. overall position. My speed on the flat and downhill areas were pretty good, but again i could not run uphills. You can see the map from 2. day HERE

Yesterday I got my new Garmin forerunner watch since my old one died. This one is 405 so you can follow me online on Garmin Connect when i start my training cycle again smile

One and a half month of Orienteering

I will not be too blaberish in this post, so i will only comment my mistakes on the maps smile

BEOGRAD OPEN

MAP 1. DAY
Only real mistake was to the 9. post, ran to the wrong control.Felt really fresh, but my speed is still not good enough.
MAP 2. DAY
Got all confused to the 11. post, HUGE mistake to the 18. post due to the lack of concetration.

You can see the results HERE

Conclusion- ready for middle courses, still not ready for the long ones.

BLOK 21

MAP
Ran this one in M21E, started well, did well until the 10. post, even caught a runner who started 1 minute before me(in the end he was 1. position) Big mistake there, there was a fence in the green bushes so i lost about 20 seconds running in circles until i found it.Ran without mistakes to the end, but my pace was going down in the city part.

You can see the results HERE

Strazilovo Open

MAP
Everything went pretty smooth, exept for my running smile There are no existing results, I finished first 58:10, the terrain was pretty tough.

RUSANJ

MAP
Easy as hell, but the forest is so ugly, full of thorns barely runnable in some parts, and that is the reason for my pretty bad time.

CHAMPIONSHIPS SPRINT

MAP
Held in my hometown, there was something fuzzy about that map, the printing was pretty bad, and the simbols were too small(i think these are used for 1:10000)Again i'm sorry about the 13. post to all my opponents, as long as i remember the old map there was a passage drawn in that building, i didn't realise it wasn't drawn there now.I just saw where the post was and ran it without looking in the map again,as i know the map pretty well.

SMEDEREVO OPEN

MAP
The first race from the beggining of the season, where i felt really fresh and back in the running.Ran in M21E, pretty easy open terrain. The 5. was placed in the thorn hell.No real mistakes. Can't find the results, finished 4. 30 seconds behind 3. placed, 1 minute behind 2. placed and 4 minutes behind the 1. one.

So this is how my season start is looking like bigsmile I'm working on this for about 2 and a half hours now, so you better read it all wink

2 Months Without Running and Juniper Open Spring

So there i was, december 2010, a lot of expectations of the 2011 season. I started well, doing 2 and a half weeks of my training plan, and then it started. One morning I wake up with a feeling like a car crushed me while i was asleep. It turned out i got a cold. So I went to the hospital , and the folks there gave me some basic medicine to lower my body temperature. But it didn't work, and it didn't work for 7 days. I was laying in bed for 7 days , never below the 38 celsius body temperature(at night it went to 39.8 , every night) After those 7 days, i went to the hospital for the 100000. time and they diagnosed me with pneumonia. Wow, nice, another 7 days laying in the hospital, dying of boringness and knowing my winter preparations would be ruined. So i got out of the hospital, and doctor told me I couldnt run for 1 fudging month.Weeeee.So i sat there at home, unable to do any physycal activity, because of tons of medicine running through my veins. And yay the day has come at last. February the 14. my first training day after 2 months of being a human-plant.I went running 6 km, and I was feeling like Jesus on the cross.Day by day i could run more and more, and in week and a half i did a interval training 20x 150m with a slight change in tempo. I felt like Usain Fudging Bolt with the tempo of just above 4.00 xD And was so happy to be able to do intervals (as they were).

Then comes the beggining of the season, Juniper Open ( like Portugal O-meeting at Balcans bigsmile) and my first year in M18 at international competitions ( I run in M20 in my country). My opponents, whole Hungarian national team.Wow great, i thought, they're gonna bust my butt so hard. And so I went there with my physycal and technical ( I didn't even touch a map during winter, exept for Catching Features) condition as it was.

First day, I get the map can't concetrate on the map due to coldness -3 degrees, and do to my concetration.Make some stupid mistakes at 1. and 2. , a middle class mistake at 3. and a big mistake at 4. , then i got along with the map here and there, and ran rest of the course without mistakes, with a fare pace. Finished 7. 5 and a half minute behind the 1. placed, wondering did they have pneumonia too during the winter? At least i know one of them well, and he's a fudging European vice-champion bigsmile.

Map Day 1

Second day, the course was 7.8 km, and i knew i would die of tiredness, because i was already tired after the first day. I started the race with the fair pace, and was really concentrated, on the legs 1-5, there was a mistake at 6., and then some bad routechoices at 7. and 9. At the control post 11, i was already very tired, and my eyes were starting to blur, so i did that curving line to the control, losing the rhytm. I ended the race, 14 minutes behind the first placed guy. Wow, there, they busted my butt.

Map Day 2

I ended the competition in the 5. overall place, behind all 4 national team runners. But i was satisfied, to be able to run nearly as them with my 0 physycal condition.

You can see the results and split times HERE

So i started some serious trainings at last, as soon as i came back from the competition, and I was already able to do some 15x150 metres 3.00 pace intervals, and some 10x150 metres uphill intervals, as well as long 15 km runs smile Next week I'm going to the competition that opens the season in Serbia. I expect a shitty competition with poor course, as every year. So expect another blog post in a week p

Season 2010-preview

It's been a while since i wrote my last post on this blog,so i would like to start the writing again with the season preview, and my next season priorities. This season i had my downhills and uphills,my PB on EYOC,and my failure at BOC,and of course less important state championships and state cup.I took the overall gold in the cup,but i have been less fortunate with the championships, mostly taking just silver medals.I had only one international race and it was Juniper Open Spring(gold medal).I also had Silva-o camp in plan, but in the end i couldn't go.About EYOC...I was feeling good about long distance, started well, but after the 3. post i went down the road that wasn't on the map(it was made by tractors pulling trees) and i made a big mistake of about 10 minutes. Until the end of the race i had some small mistakes and a big one of about 4-5 minutes.I ended the race with about 17-20 minutes of mistakes, about 20 minutes behind the 1st placed.I wasn't expecting much in the relay. We were a weak team compared to the other teams, esspecially as we were running in m18(2 of us from m16) I finished my leg 9 minutes behind the first placed. The sprint was the best race for me,i had just 20 seconds of mistake, but i didn't run fast,so i finished 2 minutes behind the first ranked runner,on the 42. place. My next big race was Kopaonik Open which was held on the same terrains as Eyoc last year.I took the overall bronze,in the M20 category behind Daniel Barkasz(ROU 1st ranked) and Kristaps Berkins(LAT 2nd ranked). Some weeks after,I was back again on Kopaonik for the National team camp.We had hard but very good trainings and i felt strong for the Balkans Championships. In september we departured to Belogradchik,Bulgaria, the unique set of terrains on which BOC was held.I started the sprint distance, was fast and secure in the town part, all to the forest part where i made 1 minute big mistake on the cliff section.Finished on the 7. place dissapointed,1 minute behind the leader.Next day was long distance,i started the race very good, was having a 2. best time until my mistake of about 50 MINS!!!!There were 2 identical hills, one on the map,and the 2. was not.As it always happens you are often where you shouldn't be so i went to the wrong one.I ran over and over the hill again and again, jumping like an mountain goat from stone to stone, watchin as more, and more runners approached the same hill and doin the same thing as me.So 50 minutes passed until i realised what i have done and i finished the race totaly out of strenght.Next day was middle distance,i was out of power from the last day so i finished as best as i can,on the 7. place 6 minutes behind the leader. The only event left was relay,i ran the first leg,ran a good race, and finished first. My second teammate finished 1st too,and we had a 4 minutes gape to the 2. placed team.Unfortunately our 3rd teammate had some hard time in the woods so we ended the race as the last positioned team.As i said my season had much ups and downs(mostly downs) so i head to the new season.Tommorow I will begin my winter trainings for the next season. My priorities will be the state championships(which I will be runnings in the M21E category-exept the long distance)EYOC in Czech Republic,JWOC in Poland(if our national team is going),and the SEEOC(South-easten europe O-champs)which was former BOC.I will be going to many races in Hungary,as it is very close to me,and as these are the best races in the region.I look forward to the beggining of next season and of course my next post on the blog bigsmile
P.S. I will upload Maps from the competitions I menioned during this week.

Beograd Open 2010

On saturday and sunday I participated in the race which opened the O season in Serbia.I competed in the M18-20 category(1991-1994)
First day was middle distance 4.2 km on the terrain similar to the one at Juniper Open last week.I made the first mistake on the 3rd control because i went 'round wrong green part and i lost about 20 seconds. My second mistake was on the 5th control where i got confused by a lots of small trees in that part and lost there 3 minutes!Next mistake came at the 7 control where i lost 4 minutes again confused with a lot of small trees and control was well hidden too.Next mistake was on the 11. control where i lost about 3 minutes.I finished the race with about 10 or more minutes of mistake with a final time of 39 minutes on the 4. place 11 minutes behind winner Daniel Barkasz.

Map 1st day

Second day was a real adventure. We had to walk to the finish area 5 km! Then 1,5 more km to the start. My course was 6.8 km long with the 380 m of altitude. The terrain was very hilly and hard.I did not have any major mistakes. There was thick snow on the ground so it made it veeeery hard running uphill because it was very slippery..:SI finished the course with the 60 min. time 11.5 minutes behind the winner Andrey Borstnik

Spring Juniper Open 2010

My first race this season took place in Hungary about 20 km from Hungarian-Serbian border.

First day was on scale 1:7500 and course was long 4.5 km.I started the race with a high pace to the first control, map reading was easy on the open terrain and in the clear pine forest but when you enter the yellow-green area you must slow down because if you lose concetration you are doomed..:)My first big mistake was already on the 4th control because i lost concentration and started running in the wrong direction and when i realised that after some 10 meters i took the right direction and went to the control. To the end of the race i made only small mistakes and ended it with 36 minutes.Bad time but not too bad for this terrain and not so bad considering i had only 5-6 map trainings during winter.

Map day 1.

Second day was on 1:10000 scale map on the same terrain but with some new map parts.I started the race again with the high pace to the 1st control. On the 2nd control i lost direction in the green forest and lost 4 minutes. To the end of the race i did't make any big mistakes and ended it with 46 minutes on 5.5 km course.

Map day 2.

I took overral victory with 4 minutes ahead of the 2nd ranked.Good competition with the complicated maps for the season opening.;)Next week i will participate at Beograd Open international competition in Serbia, also first race for Serbian Cup in M20 category.

A new begining...:)Season preview...smile

I finnaly have time to write again...This year's season was ok...First there was Eyoc:total disappointement i screwed up Long and Sprint and ran the 1. leg 15 min. behind the first Michal Hubacek(CZE)...Then there were some international competitions and of course WOC 2009(20. place overall M16)We had a training good 10 day training camp at Kopaonik.New maps fresh from EYOC that i enjoyed running on,and of course improving myself. That period from EYOC to WOC helped me out a lot and finnaly there comes the highlight of my season BOC(Balkan Orienteering Champioship).First day we ran sprint i started with a good fast pace taking controls one by one.I did't have problems to the finish and took 5. place 40 sec behind a romanian runner(forgot his name). Then there was Long distance.A lot of people talked about very hard map scale 1:15000,rocks and big holes 100m wide and 20m deep.Ok they were right,a lot of runners lost their way and it is nearly impossible to run full speed there because you can injur yourself on small rocks just waiting to twist your ankle.I started with normal pace and i only thought in myself that the first control is important and then the confidence will come minute by minute. After the first control i started running faster and soon catched up with guy i was chasing 2 minutes...We ran 3 more controles together following the same pace. And then we took the different route choices.I finished the race in good 2. position.I was so happy even when i found out that the first guy is actually the guy i was chasing and caught up to...:)I suppose his route choice on that control was better...;)My time 39 min on 5 km 1 minute behind the winner. And then last but the best one Middle distance. It was held on the same terrains as Long (of course scale was 1:10000)and I decided to push it hard to the end no matter what.I took very fast pace to the 1st control.and then there were 3 controles that needed some more concentration and i slowed a little bit.I ran full speed through the holes and i was surprised i was able to run uphill without a problem after 3 hard races.I finished the race and found out i was 1st 1 minute in front of the 2nd romanian runner...:DOur country ended this BOC in 4th place overall behind 1st Bulgaria 2nd Romania and 3rd Moldova. We had 4 Serbian championship races from the season begging and my results were:1st place sprint championships,1st place long championships,1st place relay champioships(together with my teammates Luka and Sava),but unfortunately I did't participate in Middle distance champioships...:(We had 13 races for Serbian Cup and 9 best were numbered for the overall result each giving 100 points for 1st place.I ended season first in cup with 898 pts. Oh yeah by the way i bought Garmin Forerunner 205 and a scanner for my maps.^^I already tested my Garmin and im quite satisfied with it.:)I'm still trying to figure it out completly, and i will manage that someday i hope. Here is a map from competition i ran 2 days ago in M21E category.Hope you like it.From december i will start with real winter trainings because i want to be well prepared for the coming 2010. season...bigsmile

Memorijal 2009

Last week i took place on a three day competition "Memorijal Cika Duska Jovanovica" on Rajac.First day we ran the night score sprint on the last year sprint area from last year competition. It was a mass start and it reminded me on 10Mila that i looked weekend before...I felt very nervous as i was hearing all those people just breathing.Finaly we got the maps and started running.I made a big mistake taking a middle route choice and then i continued the circle. The best route choice was first to go to number 38 and then continue the circle vice versa than mine.I lost about 30 seconds at the control number 40 waiting for other people to jump over fence. The rest of the race went slight but i finished at the second place 6 second behind the winner.I was wearing a garmin that night given to me by one elite runners,so i will leave my route choice by pen and garmin route.

Garmin route on M21E map
Route by pen my map

Second day race was held on the new map placed in the village Cibutkovica.I made a big mistake already at the first control.I took the left path and realised that when when i arrived to the yellow area then i went straight trough forest to my control. The rest of the race i ran full tempo and i was really surprised that i was able to run uphills very fast so my uphill trainings payed off..:)I finished the race on the first place despite my 2 minute mistake at the first control.I learned i must work on my concentration too because EYOC is coming fast...smile
Map with route second day

Third day race was held on the same map,but on the left side. That day was the Serbian Championship at long distance. The course was very small only 3km but soon i found out why. It was almost impossible to run because the depressions were covered with thorns and chopped wood and made map reading and running too very hard. And it was 300m of climbing too on such a small course.I havent had any problems with the map only i had to take the left route choice at the fourth control because i had to go pass the big undergrowth that was in the straight way.The only and the big mistake was at 9th control.First i went straight to her but i couldnt see it because it was in big grass and undergrowth. So i thought i was on the similar path that to your left side and went right untill i seen small depression and ran fast back to the control.I finished the race with again 2 minutes mistake 1 minute at the 9th and 1 minute at the running over the undergrowth and bad route choice at 4th.Once again i ran the uphills very good and i was satisfied with my physical perfomance.I won the race with about 10 minutes lead over the 2nd.I was really surprised and i was the equal winner of all three days and i took two gold medals for the equal and long championships. Now i have two of the two possible wins on the championships(long, sprint)and i saved my place in the national team.So i will continue my training before the EYOC and i hope i will give my best especially at the long and sprint distance...smile
