Abendoned blog

This blog has been abandoned.
And I feel relieved. In the end it felt like a duty I had to fullfill, but without the joy I had while reading the Opera blogs.

My friends: I really do thank you all for reading what I tried to say, and I will read you blog entries every now and then.

Lectori Salutem.

MCSE

I made it !! I am a MCSE. To non Microsoft-fooks: this means I have proven to know a lot (but not everything) about Windows in a corporate envoronment. Last week was my last exam and I got 973 out of 1000 points. Ain't that great ! I really really wanted to pass this exam, and that is the reason I have not been around here lately.

I am glad I can read your stories again and have little conversations. Hi, I'm back again.

What is next? I do not know. Maybe some Oracle or Cognos or maybe back to software development.

It was 40 years ago today

,

It was 40 years ago today my granddad took me for a ride in the new Metro of Rotterdam. On the second day of is existance we went from start to end (just 6 kilometers) and back. We didn't buy a ticket for that second ride, which was naughty  according to the rules of a little boy.
My granddad was rather ill and had difficulties breathing but it was a very special moment in the lives of two men. Just the two of us going for a little big journey.
This is one of my dear memories.

The world looks so different.
The way I remember it.
Some more pictures.

Is it a tipi

Last saterday I made a tipi for the boys. At least I think it's looks like a tipi, but maybe it's a wigwam because it is fairly permanent.

I have put big willow branches into the ground and added the larger twigs. It's not finished yet, but friends are impressed so far. After a lot more twigs have been added I think I can close it by using clay.
It's not easy to make a firm structure if your parents didn't teach you, or you haven been a boy scout.

Happy new year !!

It's finaly the year of the rat. So, happy news year to all of you.

This is a short post, but just enjoy the fact I really wish you all the best. :D

OpenID

Has anyone ever tried OpenID when using Opera ?
I was asked to take part in a test. A website wanted to test their OpenId availability/friendlyness/what-so-ever. I thought this might be the first site I could use my OpenID on.
Internet Explorer 7: OK
Safari 3.0.4: OK
FireFox 2.0.0.11: OK
Opera 9.25: Keeps saying I have to logon before using the account

Is this an error of my OpenID provider: http://www.myopenid.com ? Or is Opera unable to handle OpenID ? In that case someone should take a look at the code. I haven't tried and betas yet.

Update: I'm now on Windows Vista and turned off the option called "Activate Safe Sign-In for this account". I also had to select "Accept all cookies" but still I get an errorpage saying "OpenID failed. No session state found". This is definitely a Windows implementation error, since Opera 9.25 on my Ubuntu 7.10 machine works just fine.

Sprouts and tsiis

Today I got Brussels sprouts with "Riperkrite tsiis". All just for me. :chef:
I haven't had sprouts in years since I'm the only one in da house who likes them. Serving this must have been an act of pure love

So, what's that "Riperkrite tsiis"? It should't be to difficult when reading this blog entry in English. Tsiis is the Frisian word for cheese. It's a herbal-cheese.

Recipe:
Defrost the sprouts, boil them for 10 minutes, put them in the oven with cheese for 10 minutes
Boil potato slices for 10 minutes, put them in the oven with bechemel sause for 10 minutes.
Add a meatball or baconslice (Dutch bacon slices are 0,5 cm thick!)

Sorry no pics available.

The way I like it.

Recently I added a category called "Music I grew up with" to my links page. The first entry is Beethoven's Symphony 5, conducted by Herbert van Karajan. I played this record hundreds of times so I think I know the music quite well. This particular way van Karajan had it played is just the way I like it. The fifth was written while the sixth was written as well. You can here it (if played the right way!). Some versions I know are to fast and/or without the dynamics and that "Pastoral" touch. That 1st movement should sound like thunder in a german forest. I am still looking for a CD to be independent of YouTube, since I don't have internet in my car yet

I grew up with this kind of music for my bedstead was right underneath the pick-up player. These early impressions stick fore ever.
