Pray for Rain

Once I realized how extensive the fires were, I began to make some enquiries about Deer Park, the monastery in Escondido, just outside of San Diego.
I did not get any news, until this morning.
Apparently, the residents have been evacuated, and they are safe. But the fires, on last reporting, are "in their back yard."

For all who are suffering in Southern California right now,
may there be rain.
For all the places that are burning,
let there be less wind.
For all who lose their homes,
let them find safe harbor and warm hearts to welcome them.
For all of us who are watching
from afar,
let us find ways to help.
Once, in Nicaragua,
going around the poor barrios of Managua
in search of food, clothing
for people who had been hit by a tidal wave on the Pacific coast,
I was struck over and over again
by people's generosity ~
a woman with two shirts hanging on her clothesline
gave us one, with these words:
"When we had the hurricanes,
the floods, the earthquakes,
the volcanic eruptions. . .
others helped us.
Now it is our turn."
Another day, it may be us.
Today, since it is our brothers and sisters,
how can we help?
