For oh, about 7 years, I practiced that way.
Then, I was fortunate to discover sangha. Pronounced like "song-uh" (sort of), it means, basically, community.
Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke of the "beloved community."
That is how I like to think of sangha.
Come see for yourself.
Here are a few opportunities to gather with others. Retreats are taking place in Colorado, California, and New York over the next two months.
A festival is taking place in Mississippi.
And here in Birmingham, we have a wonderful opportunity to gather at our very own Botanical Gardens!
Read on for details. . .
- Thich Nhat Hanh and the monks and nuns of Plum Village, Deer Park, and Blue Cliff have begun their North American tour. There are still opportunities to register for the retreats that will be taking place from now until mid-October. Visit the "Upcoming Retreats" section in the right-hand column on this site to find more information about these retreats.

Dear Friends,
We would like to invite you to come to a day of mindfulness and our annual Rose Festival on Sunday, August 26th. It will be lead by monastics from Plum Village. The Rose Festival is basically a time where people gather to share and recognize the love of our parents and our loved ones. A red rose symbolizes a parent that is still alive. And a white rose stands for a parent that has passed away. If both of our parents are still alive we will be given two red roses. If one parent has passed away we will be given one red rose and one white rose. If both of our parents passed away we will be given two white roses. Please come to enjoy this festival with us here at Magnolia Village. Bring your instruments or anything you would like to contribute as entertainment during this day.
