Bendrigg Trip Part Four

We had to go back home to Chichester today awwwwwwww! We really enjoyed our time here at Bendrigg Lodge and thanksed Rex and his helpers for looking after us and taking us on great adventures and activities and they will look forward to our return in June 2011 ( I think its June or July not August 2011) bigsmile

I made sure i packed all my luggage and souvenirs and unmade the bed and we put our used bed covers in the laundry room for the cleaners to wash and made sure the bedroom was clear and tidy.

After breakfast, the caterers put the lunch things out early so we could make sandwiches for the 8 hour journey home. Hopefully we will make it back without breaking down again lol!

Just before we left, we had a group photo at the entrance to the lodge.

We put our luggage into the trailer and made sure we had got everything and we were off again down the M6 on quite a wet Monday morning.

It was quite interesting that the sun started to show again once we left Cumbnria and the Manchester area. lol

We stopped at a service station to have our lunch we made and also to have a cup of tea and i looked around the shop and saw a set of pens with animals on.................. guess which one i bought! p

On the move again, the younger ones were playing, guess where we broke down and try and spot it............ even though were were about 100 miles down the road from it lol

It started to get dark about 6 hours into the journey and we decided to stop off at a Mc Donalds in Newbury and have dinner yum yum! bigsmile

It wasnt long before we got home and as you would have to go into Bognor and double back on yourself i kindly said to Craig and Carol that they can stop at Chichester and drop me off so Dad could take me to Bognor, this was a good idea as it would cut the travel times for the others who lived in Witterings by 30 minutes.

When i got home i umpacked and put my photos on the computer and i had a great time in Bendrigg and cant wait until our next PHAB adventure. bigsmile I didnt have to work until the evening the next day so had a nice lie in hehe.

Hope you enjoyed the Bendrigg Trip folks! there will be more from here when we next visit in Summer 2011. bigsmile

Bendrigg Trip Part Three

The weather looked better today which was good, after breakfast, we went on the bus with a set of Canadian Canoes to a Canal and it was really exciting. bigsmile I didnt take my camera as it was be costly to repair and sometimes its nice to not have to worry and enjoy the fun, Carol has the photos but cant get them on here but what we did was have 6 Canoes, 2 tied together so no risk of capsizing.

We went in 3 teams and we all had special floatation safety wear incase we did get wet somehow and i also had an additional safety device around my neck, Rex said it was incase i had a seizure and its quite clever, it somehow senses the vibration from a seizure and automatically inflates! It got me curious but at the same time i hope it dosent have to do that! p

Once we were all in the canoes, we paddled down the Canal and we had to make sure we steered in a straight line by paddling on each side continuosly and if we were heading towards the banks, i put the paddle right in and force it backwards. The other helper said that i was quite good at doing that and was impressed. yes

It was nice the Sun came out for the first time since we got here! We paddled for about 30 minutes and then had a nice snack of biscuits and hot chocolate which was perfect. Rex also told us a few tales about the Canal and how it used to go for much longer around Kendal and it was interesting to hear.

Then we paddled back towards where we started off, Rex threw several different coloured balls into the canal and we had to catch our colour, i did well at catching the other teams balls lol! lol

It felt hot wearing all the safety gear as the sun came out but it was really great and i enjoyed it very much. When we got back to the bus, we helped put the canoes and paddles back into the bus and went back to the Lodge to get changed for lunch.

Just before lunch after i got changed into dry clothes, i took advantage of the sunny weather and took photos from the balcony.

I love this view.

Count the Sheep!

Its a beautiful location, something makes me want to run down the hill and explore but obviously i didnt do that lol!

The Zipwire down the bottom.

Carol took this photo of me with the background with my camera.

I did well with this opportunity as half an hour later it clouded over once more! bigsmile

Lunch. chef

After lunch, half of us did the indoor rock climbing while the other half did the zipwire again. I loved the rock climbing it was great fun, here are a few photos of me climbing to the top which was about 50ft up.

Me climbing the hardest part of the wall, great fun!

At the top! now the only way is down, abseiling was just as cool yes

It was great fun and we all took turns and while we waited, we actively played a part of pulling the rope as someone climbed, this is good to keep the climber safe and also encourages great team work which was very enjoyable. There were a few of us that were scared but we cheered them on and gave them lots of encouragement and they made it!

Bendrigg logo on the wall.

It was a fun challenge to try and find the right footholds, the key is use your legs more than the hands as these are the biggest muscles in the body.

I found it a bit embarrassing when after i did the hardest part of the wall, i climbed up the easy bit again and got stuck and slipped off! yikes .... typical lol Thats probably my overconfidence getting the better of me haha!

After climbing the wall a lot, we started to do the freefall abseiling, it sounds scarier than it looks! It was great fun doing this too and i had a few goes. bigsmile

Me having a go.

Me enjoying it. bigsmile

When we swapped round i went on the zipwire but didnt worry about the camera as the light was too dark by then and had a few goes on it again which was fun and we did this until it was dinner time.

At dinner time i took a photo of the menu.

After dinner we went to the Sensory room again, this time Rex put on the different lights and sounds on as we relaxed on the beanbags and it was lovelly. I didnt use the camera as it wouldnt come out. It was very interesting and we enjoyed it until it was time for bed. bigsmile

When we went to bed i started to pack a little before the next day when we leave, we are gonna stay for longer next time and come during Summer 2011, so Craig booked that. We have another holiday booked for August 2010 so thats why we booked it for the year after.

Hope you enjoyed part 3 folks, Part 4 is when we return back to Chichester. smile

Bendrigg Trip Part Two

We all had a nice sleep and i woke up first and waited for the other 4 in the room to wake up, interesting snores and mutterings i heard lol! We got dressed and went down to have breakfast and Rex the person in charge of the activities explained to us what we will be doing today. :smile

View of breakfast table we laid.

We are going to explore a local Cave, i have never been in one before and was a bit cautious of taking my camera with me so i let Carol use hers as she has one of those cheap ones so the photos you will see are the ones she took. Here are a few photos of the journey up to the Cave, which was about 15 minutes drive east of Bendrigg Lodge.

I love the scenic countryside of Cumbria Lake District.

Here we are posing by the bus before we walked down to the cave in our caving gear. (it was a cold day but the gear we had on felt rather hot!)

We were glad the weather improved slightly, a cloudy cold dry day in November is a good day p here. p The cave was safe to explore so off we went.

Our bus as we climbed the hill.

Rex briefing us before we entered the cave and showing us how to use the head light and what to do incase something happens.

Views of in the cave, i really enjoyed it, was so much fun to explore and i was careful not to lose my footing in the pebbly ground as there was water running everywhere.

Some unusual rock formations inside the cave, this one looked like a wave. This is created by water dripping down over hundreds of years! very interesting and fascinating.

Rex told us some fascinating facts about this cave, it was once used as a church and legend has it that a Giant used to live here and come out and scare everyone unintentinally as he was lonely and wanted company so went looking for normal sized humans but they obviously ran away from him! lol

We went through a deeper part where there was a waterfall and as i jumped in, it came up to my waist! yikes and it was freeeeeezing! but as i had the safety gear on it wasnt too bad. It was so exciting and we all enjoyed it.

It wasnt long before we went back out again, i was amazed at how we knew how to get back, it almost looks like you are lost but if you only go in a little way like we did its not hard to get out again and this cave is a *tame cave*

Out we go.

When we got back to the bus we had hot chocolate and cakes to warm ourselves up and take the boots off and we went back to the lodge to shower and dry off and warm up for lunch, what a brilliant morning we were having. bigsmile

After lunch i went onto the balcony and took a few photos, it was a bit cloudy damp day but it is November and we are up north.

Sheep in nearby field.

In the afternoon we all had a go on the Zipwire, this was really fun and some of us were nervous but after having a first try we all fell in love with it! yes The photos didnt come out too well because of the lighting conditions but a few came out. Here is me on the Zipwire.

Waiting to jump.

Then in style i lept off the ledge and it felt so cool and its good it stops you before you hit the end lol!

No i have not been hanged!

We did this all afternoon and dd a bit of Archery too which was fun and learning how to do archery safely too was important. bigsmile

Just before dinner Rex showed us the indoor climbing wall which we will do the next day and it looked really exciting. Here is a photo of us, i must have been conferring with a group member as the photo shows lol!

After dinner which was really nice roast chicken and crumble for desert, i took a photo of the area that we were in, its very nice and i spotted Bendrigg in the lower middle of the map. It was a fun challenge to find it hehe.

We went to the Sensory Room to watch a film in the evening, we chose to watch Kung Fu Panda and it was a great film. There were big beanbags to lay on and the younger ones kept nicking my one lol

After the film it was time for bed again, we had such a great time today and we were tired afterwards and settled down for another relaxing sleep.

More to come in part 3! Cave photos Carols camera, rest - my fuji camera. Hope you enjoyed that folks i certainly did. bigsmile

Bendrigg Trip part One

We all met in Chichester at 9:15am on Friday 13th November and made sure we had all our luggage in the trailer and things for the 8 hour journey. I took my Fuji digital camera with me and the weather wasnt very nice, gusting to 40mph winds with heavy rain!

It was a nice long journey until we got passed Manchester when we lost power steering, so we stayed at a designated rescue spot for the RAC men to arrive and fix our Bus. It wasnt too bad, just a bit drizzly and starting to get dark. Carol the assistant PHAB Club leader had her camera out too and was taking photos of us. I asked if i could use some of the pics for my blog and she said yes so that was good so i can show a few. bigsmile

Photo of the Bus by the M6 and me.

While we were waiting, the RAC men gave us these foil covers to help keep us warm which was good, the younger ones thought that it was so exciting that they started singing and getting the lorry drivers to honk as they went past! lol

It took them an hour to fix the Power Steering so we waited at a nearby Sainsburys and had hot chocolate to warm up and we were soon on our way again. We were only an hour away so wasnt too bad but by the time we got there 10 hours had passed!

When we arrived at Bendrigg Lodge the staff there greeted us with a very nice warm welcome and cooked us our dinner which was a very nice Sausage Hotpot and Raspberry Cheesecake for desert which was very delicious yes

After dinner we were very tired so got ready for bed, as part of the holiday we had to make our own beds as its independant living learning which was fun and we helped each other too. I had the top of a bunk bed which was cool as i could see everyone and was a comfy corner of the room, i shared with 4 other older group members while the younger members of the group had their room and the leaders their own room which is a very good idea. It came complete with a bathroom and toilet too.

Then we chatted for a bit longer about what we are going to do for the weekend and then went to bed, it was a very exciting day! - funy the best part of it was breaking down on the M6 niles from anywhere lol the next day we are going to explore a cave.

Hope you enjoyed part 1, i will do each day we had in parts so this is part 1 of 4. Part 2 coming soon! bigsmile

PHAB Club Weekend in Cumbria, Bendrigg Lodge preview.

Hi i have been away on an exciting trip up north to Cumbria bigsmile I have never been north of Manchester so was an exciting new thing for me! We did lots of activities like Caving, Canoeing, Rock Climbing and Abseiling and many more! Here is a nice scene from the restaurant during a brief sunny period on the Sunday we were there.

Beautiful isnt it! yes It was mostly cloudy and sometimes wet but it is November and up north of course, the South had a severe battering. We will come again in Summer 2011, i will post more of the trip later hope you enjoyed the preview folks. bigsmile
