The Flight to Manchester Airport on Flybe Dash 8 Q400 BE7361 - holiday part 1

Flight details.

Airline - Flybe
Aircraft - Bombardier Dash 8 Q400
Reg. - G-JEDK
Flight - BE7361
Seat - 12A
ETD 06:50 - actual - 07:00
ETA - 08:00 - actual 07:50
Meal - none, refreshments trolley and shop but i didnt buy anything.
Passengers onboard - roughly 50 or so.
Rating - 8 out of 10 - Flybe are a pleasant airline to fly with, improvements could be done, but great flight.

It was Friday the 13th, a Dash 8 had crashed as little as an hour ago when i woke up at 4am! Although i didnt know this until i landed. Wouldnt have made a difference anyway as flying is really safe, more chance of me dying in a smash on the treacherous A27 on the way to Southampton than being involved in a plane crash! Anyway back on with the trip.

We left at 5am and made sure we had everything before we left which was good.

Mum and Dad got up aswell, they probably thought getting up this early was mad! I was really excited and made sure i had everything with me. I only needed hand luggage as my parents are driving up so that was good, i had checked in online the day before so said goodbye to Mum and Dad and went straight through security at southampton Airport, very easy and it was still dark so taking pics of the planes at the stands was a bit pointless but i didnt mind. I waited at Stand 1 for my flight to MAN.

Flight to Manchester 001

At 6:30am they commenced boarding, i asked the flight dispatcher what reg the plane i will be flying on today and she said it was G-JEDK which was cool, i was the first one on aswell.

Iam always curious how a Dash 8 can make a successful water landing and float on the belly, wouldnt it sink to the wings making the cabin underwater?..... probably best not to think about it lol.

It wasnt long before pushback right on time and we taxiied to runway 02, it was still quite dark but i managed a few videos.

Video of before pushback.

Video of startup and safety briefing.

Video of taxiing to the runway.

Video of takeoff from SOU.

It was a nice quick takeoff and i was amazed at how quiet it was, mabe iam sitting in the part where you cant hear the engine as much i suppose.

We climbed to around FL210 as the sun was rising, i saw the Moon just behind the engine.

Flight to Manchester 019

Its getting lighter which is good.

Flight to Manchester 021

Me enjoying the flight, it wasnt as full as i thought it was which was good. I was the only one moving around, everyone else acted as if they were on an early train to london. :D Probably because they were businessmen, not much of a life i think, i prefer being active lol.

Flight to Manchester 022

Beautiful sunrise at FL180, we are cruising a bit lower to avoid the worst of the headwind, Captain West said.

Flight to Manchester 030

Video of nice sunrise.

I noticed that there was a lot of snow on the ground due to recent snowfall, it made it look like a perfect winter wonderland which was great. :D I did a few more videos too.

It wasnt long before we started to descend into Manchester, its such a short flight! But very enjoyable indeed, we were 10 minutes ahead of schedule which was good. :D

Nice photo of the sun rising behind the aircraft.

Flight to Manchester 061

It looked like we were coming in for an easterly approach, so the 05's were in use, thats a coincedence as they were doing that last year!

Video of approach to 05R.

Photo of banking onto finals for 05R, very exciting that iam nearly at Manchester yay!

Video of landing at Manchester Airport, it was a nice landing.

I found it funny when i heard all the clicks when the seatbelt sigh was taken off! I just took my time, the other business pax probably had tight schedules and meetings to go to as they were like off in a shot! :D

I said thanks to the cabin crew, they were very nice and made my way through arrivals and to the taxi rank where i got a taxi to the AVP, it was then i heard about the crash, i felt sorry for the passengers that got killed, very tragic but i hope it wasnt in vain and lessons can be learnt from it, Flybe grounded nearly all their fleet when it snowed but i guess some companies want to try and keep passengers happy and sometimes it can lead to tradgedy i suppose. Anyway i had a great flight and noticed the Hangar for Concorde.

018

I think Concorde looked better without it but when its finished i might have a different opinion i think, an unfinished piece of work always looks untidy before its completed.

To finish off, here is G-JEDK my plane heading back to Southampton as BE7362. :D

I dont go with BA anymore due to the huge prices! I got my Flybe one at £35.28 in their January sale of just pay the taxes which is much cheaper than BA's starting price of £42 which would mount up to nearly £100! :yikes:

I got a window seat, seat 12A and it leaves tomorrow morning from Southampton airport at 06:50 and land at manchester airport around 8am/

My parents are driving up at the same time so they will drop my off at Southampton on the way..... i could have got the later flight but they were still charging for the later ones! P: I love flying early so i didnt mind.

See you soon folks have a nice week! I will take loads of photos and will be in Bostok until monday then we travel to Aberystwth to see my sister at Uni then Tuesday go to Caerleon in South Wales to see my auntie and go shopping and then come back on either Wednesday or Thursday. :D Its gonna be another nice adventure for me, i will be taking bith cameras too!

Foxy is soon to fly again! :D

Flying to Manchester tomorrow (22nd) and flying back Tuesday (26th) August 2008

Hi, iam flying to Manchester again to visit my friends like i did back in February, i will be flying from Southampton Airport at 7am and land there at 8am as i like to get there early to plane spot all day. :D Iam going on a Flybe Dash 8 like this one.

Flybe from Southampton was cheaper than British Airways from Gatwick this time round so i chose to fly with Flybe, they have smaller aircraft which is exciting! I will take loads of pics and vids of the journey aswell as plenty from Bostok Grange Farm.

I have checked in online already and got my seat 3A at the front of the plane P: It will be great fun, see you all when i get back.

The Flight to Manchester from London Gatwick

I woke up at 4am and was really excited about flying to Manchester today!:D I made sure i had everything with me including my cameras, hand baggage and most importantly my passport, boarding pass and e-ticket. Then i left the house at 4:45am to catch the 5:16am train to barnham and get on the 5:27am train to gatwick Airport.

The train was dead on time and i arrived at gatwick at 6:24am, i made my way to the North Terminal Transit and got on it and when i got there, i went straight past the queues as i had my boarding pass and checked in online 24 hours earlier so i literally flew through the terminal, just as the advert on ba.com says!

I passed through security and it seemed less stressful than Heathrow but maybe that is because iam flying domestic and Gatwick is less busier i guess. I spent a while in the shops and went to the viewing lounge while i waited for my flight to be announced, here is a pic of a BA 777-200 at the gate and i filmed some of the action too.

Video of the airside action.

It wasnt long till my flight was called and i went to stand 55, this stand is made of 4 different mini stands for smaller planes such as mine so my one was at stand 553 - initially confusing but they let you know quite quickly! My flight was a BA 737-400 registered G-GBTA, here is the gate pic and the plane just as i was boarding.

I sat down in my seat which was right at the front and with a window, it was a bit dirty but i managed some nice pics through it and filmed the welcome announcement.

Video of the welcoming on board.

Video of push back, safety briefing and taxi to the runway 08R.

We taxied to the runway which took about 5 minutes and we are leaving dead on time which is good:P I filmed the takeoff here which was very quick and we climbed out eastwards and turned north to Manchester.

We had a nice hot breakfast too which was good, i was amazed at how quick breakfast could be served on a short 40 minutes flight:P I took several photo of the route along the way here.

Here is me enjoying the flight!:D

It wasnt long before we started our approach into manchester Airport, i filmed the landing here.

It was a brilliant flight and we landed on time and i really enjoyed myself and its nice to chat to other passengers too, some are on holiday too or some returning to work, a domestic flight seems so much quicker than a long haul one and different operations. Here is a pic of my plane as i said farewell to it.

I didnt have any Hold luggage to reclaim so i bypassed that and just walked through the terminal to landside and i as suprised to not go through customs or any other checks, probably because iam used to this sort of thing on long haul trips and domestic must be like just getting off a bus or train i suppose, very efficient though!:D

I made my way to the bus station where i caught the 10:15am bus to the Aviation Viewing Park, where i will spend the day watching and taking pics of the planes before my friend picks me up at 5pm, the Manchester Airport photos ill be on the next post once the videos are up. Hope you enjoyed my great adventure so far folks!

Flying to Manchester Saturday 16th February 2008

Tomorrow iam flying from London Gatwick airport to Manchester airport on a British Airways 737-400, its very exciting:D Iam going on my own to plane spot for the day then our family friend picks me up later. My Parents are driving up the next day and we spend 4 days in Bostok, where we went last August and then driving to Aberystwth in mid Wales to see my Sister in university and stay the night then to South Wales to see my Aunty and go shopping in Cwmbran and return home next Friday:D

I booked the week off work so its very good to have a week off and have a fantastic adventure! Here is a BA 737-400 simular to the one iam going on.

Its Flight, BA2904 departing Gatwick at 08:20 and arriving at Manchester at 09:25, much quicker than a 5 hour drive!P: What iam going to do is travel by train from Bognor at 05:15am and arrive at Gatwick at 06:24am plenty of time as check in closes 1 hour before departure. Iam checking in online and printing my own boarding pass which should be fun, i hope no one takes all the window seats before 1pm when i come back from work:lol: as i can book my seat online too, very convinient:D

When i arrive at manchester i will not have any luggage as my Parents are driving my suitcase for me, just having my jamas and toothbrush in my backpack with my cameras and spare batteries. I wait for the 15 minutes past 10 bus to the Aviation viewing Park and spend the day spotting:yes: I hope it goes smoothly, see you all in a week:D
