British Airways 747-400 Flight Simulator at Heathrow Airport

I went here the day before i flew to Manchester. It was very exciting! :D Dad drove me to our friends place at High Wycombe which is not far from Heathrow. Janine works for BA and gets us cheaper flights which is good. and we had lunch then went to Heathrow Terminal 5 and had a cup of tea and i watched a lot of planes!

Planes from Terminal 5 and the impressive roof from inside the terminal.

We stayed at Terminal 5 for a while then went to the eastern side of the airport to the flight simulator place at Cranebank. We had to have our passports with us as its a very secure area. There wasnt any room for Dad so he went to a local pub while we went in at around 8pm.

The Pilot was Matthew West who is related to my friends at Bostock in Manchester, he had always wanted to take me on a plane, since September 11th 2001 that has not been possible obviously but then he booked a simulator session for me which was excellent! I know i have to be up early next morning for my flight to Manchester but i will be fine!

It was very kind of him, these sessions can be nearly £200 and i got it for free! :D We met Chris who is another pilot for BA, Him and Matt fly the smaller A320 series aircraft so we all got into this nicely big simulator here.

It was very exciting being in a realistic 747 simulator and i sat in the pilots seat and felt like a real pilot  Here is me with Chris.

Iam a natural pilot arent i!

View outside of the window before takeoff, looks so realistic!

I did a nice circuit around Heathrow, i took off from runway 27L and climbed, banked and followed the pink cross (its 2 pink lines that show you whether you are flying the aircraft straight and level) and flew towards London.......... I said, hope the people in the offices in London hwont be scared by me too much lol!

Then i turned the 747 back towards Heathrow again for landing on runway 27L again, it was such a great experience and Matt and Chris thought i did really well which was good. :D Much better than my flight simulator on my PC at home, the thrust levers and flaps feel harder to push and pull and you feel the aircraft moving.

We took turns in flying, i took more photos too lol.

I also did some videos too, and the other camcoder was filming nearly all the time which was excellent.

It was such an amazing experience and we were flying around for 2 hours! it went very quick but i enjoyed every minute of it. :D

Engine display.

Radio and Engine thrust lever and flaps area.

When we finished flying it was 10:30pm and we all had such a terrific time! we had a photoshoot afterwards, here is me with Matt and Chris.

Then we went outside and waited for Dad who got a bit lost around Heathrow! but we found him outside a Hilton hotel and i said thanks and bye to Matt and Chris and Dad took me home and i had such a great time!

We got home at midnight and i had to be up again in 6 hours for my flight to Manchester so i had got my hand luggage packed and went to bed quick so i wasnt tired for my flight to Manchester tomorrow! P:

Hope you enjoyed that folks, i certainly did! :D Thanks to Matt and Chris and Janine and Peter West for making this possible.

Horses and Planes..... and a Fox

I went to Heathrow again on the 19th and this time i spent more time with the Horses and filmed them with Foxy :D

I heard on my radio scanner that there was a Fox on the runway but i couldnt see it and a plane had to go around  maybe it was Foxy! Due to Heathrow being closed at night, its ideal for Foxes to explore once its gone quiet, Heathrow being Fox heaven seems funny at first but its actually true! P:

Some of the horses.

Horse and a Plane.

An Kewait Airways 747-400 coming overhead sequence.

The Horses didnt even flicker an ear when that came over

Videos make it more real so here they are.

Foxy chats to the Heathrow Horses.

Hope you enjoyed that  Videos done with the Fuji S2000 and photos with the Canon 1000D :D

Heathrow Airport 25th July - special schemes.

A few planes have special liveries promoting sports events, airline anniversaries (by painting in retro back to the livery they had in the beginning) and alliances. I caught a few of these this day.

Etihad A340-600 in the special F1 livery - this one is a very good favourite! I waiting until after 6pm to get this one, just a shame the sun decided to hide but glad i caught her.

1140

Lufthansa Retro A321, Retro schemed planes are popular too.

1123

These two were taken from the bridge at Hatton Cross tube station as the sun moves round at this time of the day.

PIA 777-300, this airline paints it's tails in many schemes, this one being the prettiest.

624

BA 747-400 and Cathay Pacific A340-300 in OneWorld alliance scheme.

907

712

Veuling Airways, this is a new airline that has advertisements on its fuselage.

952

Its very interesting to catch these, i was just planning on catching the Etihad so i was lucky getting more that i bargained for! I walked round to the other runway, this being a 20 minute walk, very healthy for me and walking round the hangars you find aircraft parked waiting for their next flights or stored awaiting new owners such as these ex BA b757-200's.

574

I also caught a go around on camera too from the bridge, this one seemed to go around rather late!

1012

To finish off, heres a photo of the Emirates A380, very impressive. :D

Rest of the photos from this day here.

Couple of Videos i did, Foxy in one of them. :D

Hope you enjoyed that folks, Heathrow is certainly a very interesting place isnt it. :D

Heathrow Horses and a few planes - 18th July 2009

I went again and it was certainly a lot cooler! First off i will show the Horses that live under the flight path of runway 27L at Heathrow, halfway to the field i watch from. :D

Foal in the field.

679

I will keep this one large so you can see the planes on approach, seeing 3 at once is a very common occurence at Heathrow, every 90 seconds, i wonder how these Horses cope with it lol, at least they get sleep while Heathrow is shut from 11pm to 5am.

673

Looks like hes coming straight towards me! will have to do a film one day of it.

670

You may remember the BA 777 that crashed short of 27L back in January 2008, if it had not made the fence, these horses wouldnt be here now! so greatfull that the pilot of that plane made it over. Now i like humans a lot too but my first thought in my mind when i heard the crash was *oh no those poor horses!!!* luckily no horses or people were killed.

I took photos of the giant A380 of Emirates Airlines, here are a few photos of it.

Over the houses,

468

Coming closer.

490

Passing really close, such a huge thing!

491

Nose shot.

494

Looks even bigger when passing over a tree!

495

I have been practising on catching planes by the tail....... no not literally!

290

339

640

To finish off, here is a Virgin Atlantic 747 celebrating the airline's 25th anniversary with a Balloon on its fuselage.

Foxy at Heathrow Video.

I went back earlier at 2pm because i was meeting a friend called Harry who is on holiday from Canada, he likes Foxes a lot too and has his own puppet Fox, we met at Terminal 5 and went back to London's Hyde Park to get the Foxes out and film them, we did several videos so i will just show one of them. Harry is a great fan of my Foxy youtube videos!

Foxy and Friendly (Friendly is Harry's Fox)

We had a nice afternoon and wanted to explore London a bit more but due to engineering works and time getting on, we had to get back to our homes, he is staying in north London while iam way down south on the coast lol! feel free to watch the videos on my youtube channel. :D

Hope you enjoyed that folks! i certainly did and iam nearly up to date on my blog again which is good

Heathrow Airport 2nd July 2009 - hottest day of the year.

I went to Heathrow today and the temperature was forecasted to be 30c! am i mad  The underground was very hot though and i felt sorry for the poor businessmen who had traditional London full suits on (makes me think why dont they change while at work?) while i was in shorts and T-Shirt and sandals. P:

There was a debate at the time i read in the London Metro about the underground trains having air conditioning, they should do it would certainly make Underground Commuting a lot more comfortable for them, lucky iam just using it for pleasure.

At Heathrow they were using the easterly runway so i went to Terminal 5 and crossedthe road to a field where there is lots of shade which was good for this weather.

AA 777-200.

051

IranAir 747-200, this aircraft is quite old!

083

I noticed the sky looks very humid and heat hazed which isnt the best for photography unless you are really close so i was lucky.

This AA 777-200 had a special scheme of a pink ribbon to support a cancer charity.

088

This Delta 767-400 is painted in the Star Alliance group of airlines scheme, each airline in a group paints at least a few of their aircraft in the group's logo.

157

Later in the day i caught a selection of the arrivals i do not usually see, i tend to stay at Heathrow until 6pm now to catch different aircraft and airlines. The heat haze had increased by this point and the airport arrival weather information was forecasting 33c!

PIA 777-300.

418

Singapore Airlines 777-300.

458

All Nippon Airways 777-300.

Malaysian 747-400.

537

Korean 747-400.

606

Saudi Arabian 777-200.

618

Asiana 777-200.

642

Notice a lot of these operate either 777 or 747 aircraft! Long ago they had several different types but now changed to more efficient aircraft. It was very hot today and i drank 2 big bottles of water and used plenty of suncream to prevent getting dehydrated and burnt which was good.

Rest of the photos here.

I did a few videos aswell with foxy in.

Heathrow Underground video.

Finally, a video of a Pigeon at London Victoria before my train went home, the Pigeon does something funny!

Hope you enjoyed that folks, i think the next time its forecasted to be 30c again (or if ever lol!) i will stick to the beach. P:

Heathrow Airport and local Wildlife - 23rd May 2009

It was such a glorious sunny day and i went to London heathrow and they were using the other end of the runway so i went to terminal 5 and walked down the road and crossed it carefully and walked into a field...... the grass was almost as tall as me in some areas of it! Here is a selection of photos i took.

BA 767-300 nose shot.

046

Virgin Atlantic A340-600.

131

Air Canada 777-300.

BA 747-400 with "One World" member titles.

441

321

Air New Zealand 747-400.

331

I caught plenty of high level over flights, here are a few of them.

Singapore Airlines 747-400.

071

Lufthansa A340-600.

187

Omni Air International DC10-30.

473

Now as i was spotting, i noticed this green parrot in the distance on a tree, i think i have seen this before on Word's blog on a visit to London, not sure, could have been either Words or someone else! These are escaped pets that have somehow adapted to being wild are they?

286

287

I also saw a Cabbage White Butterfly on a Buttercup in the long grass.

380

I was hoping that they would have been taking off due to a special scheme Etihad A340-600 being here at the time but oh well, they decided to change back to the takeoff runway at lunchtime so i caught a few others! It started to get cloudy after lunch time so i didnt stay too long but took a few more photos before moving back towards Terminal 5.

Virgin Atlantic 747-400 taking off.

586

Thai Airways A340-600.

625

Another BA 747-400 in the "One World" member scheme, they have several in this scheme aswell as other airlines in the group. They have these groups to help each other out and sell seats to places where each other wouldnt go using their aircraft. Very clever!

638

Hows this for size comparison - watch these two.

Qantas 747-400.

647

Qantas A380-800.

670

A380 - twice as big but twice as quiet! P: I also caught my favourite Virgin Atlantic A340 which is registered G-VFOX!

707

I really enjoyed todays visit to Heathrow, here is the link to all 100 photos, i took 752 but narrowed it down to 100, :D

http://www.flickr.com/photos/21967655@N08/sets/72157618771960988/

I did a few videos too, one of the planes landing on 09L and one of the planes taking off from 27R.

Photos taken with Canon 1000D and sigma 70-300mm Lens and the videos with the Fuji S9600.

Hope you all enjoyed that folks as much as i did. :D

Heathrow Airport 21st March 2009 - another viewpoint

It was really Summer like today! :D I went on the VERY crowded tube train to Terminal 5 and walked down the road to a good point where i could catch 27L departures which was very good. I used Google earth to help me find it.

Here is a nice selection of the days photos i took, i also caught the three A380 operators too which was good.
What i did was, instead of my usual sort out photos one by one until they are all sorted (which takes forever) i just did the ones that looked best which is better i think.

Delta 767-300.

I did some videos too here, with Foxy too!

Here is a video of my train arriving London Victoria and departing London victoria, to show Lois and get her more excited! P:

Me and Foxy had a really great day. I dont film on the Tube train much because of the crowdedness and also its more dangerous i have been told so i keep my camera safely tucked away in my bag. I plan to go to Heathrow again on the 4th April weather permitting yay.

Hope you enjoyed all that folks. :D

Heathrow 13th September 2008

The last visit before i fly from this airport to Thailand. :D Eva Air dosent land at Heathrow until around 6:30pm so i didnt wait to get a photo of it as it takes me 3 hours to get home! P: Here is a selection of my best shots from this visit.

Nice sillohouette of an A340 landing overhead!

I met my four legged friend again and he enjoyed his carrot, i wonder if they all know me when i come as 6 others followed aswell! Note for next time, bring more carrots!

Here is a photo of him with a BA A320 approaching.

The light was interesting at first thing and a bit dark but it got better after lunch time, here are a few from the morning.

KLM Fokker F50, its like a Dash 8 but older and not as efficient.

The sun poked through a lot which was good, it was meant to be sunny all day without clouds but i get easily fooled with British weather.

Virgin Atlantic A340-600.

Here comes a Kangaroo. P: (Qantas 747-400.)

BA 757-200.

Alitalia A321. This airline is in deep trouble, its a tricky situation with planes still operating to here but none enywhere else! Hopefully it will survive but with the current crisis, its future looks bleak.

Watch out for that tree! Aer Lingus A320.

Afternoon heavies, before 3pm as the runway switches over at 3pm to help with noise relief for nearby houses. I got a nice selection of them as the light is at a good position at this time of day.

Air New Zealand 747-400.

JAL - Japan Air Lines 747-400, this was a suprise as they usually use the 777-300 on the Heathrow route from Osaka.

Emirates 777-300.

Kingfisher Airlines A330-200, this is a new Indian airline operating into Heathrow since this month!

BA 747-400.

PIA - Pakistan International Airlines 777-300.

Rest of my photos i took here. :D

Hope you enjoyed the photos. I thought i would add them here as iam flying away soon. :D

Heathrow 26th July - using a different editing technique

I began to realise that not all of my photos were being accepted on www.photos.aero because they had *blue cast* on them which meant that my Fuji S9600 (which enhances the blue colour on its own) was making the blue sky extra bright blue when i used the Enhance Photo feature such as this photo.

AA 777-200 using just Enhance and Unsharp Mask and resize. It does look extremely bright blue!

Then i got advised that using Enhance Photo was not a good move while editing photos and i should just use Brightness and Contrast instead and makine the blue colour control to -10 which took care of the blueness.

Here is the photo, in this case an AA 777-200 original.

After using -10 blue, leaving the red and green at 0.

After using Brightness at 25 and Contrast at 20.

After using Unsharp Mask and gentle cloning out the visible dust spot and resizing to 1024x683.

Then a perfect result and it got accepted on the site yay!
http://www.photos.aero/photo-full-size.php?p=34101

It was a great learning experience to get to know what was wrong and how to improve by a better technique with thanks to the screeners that advised me aswell, it does help having their msn link so that they can chat in more depth about it and i enjoyed learning from them. :D

This was done using my Paintshop Pro x2, its a very useful photo editing software to use, a lot of members use Photoshop CS3 which is more expensive and i only like to take photos as an amatuer not a real pro! P:

Hope you enjoyed the learning experience like i did. :D

Heathrow visit 12th April 2008

I got to Heathrow at 8am and it was a better day today, a sunny start and really nice weather for taking photos of planes. :D I ended up getting 15 of my 200 i took accepted. The reason why so few get accepted on photos.aero is the high quality standards they have to adhere too. I dont mind this as it helps me learn to get even better photos.

The pics taken in sunny weather are more likely to be accepted but if theres dust spots or blurring then they get rejected but i did well to get 15 accepted. Here is a selection of todays photos.

Swiss A320 - this one got accepted.

KLM Fokker 50 - this is an unusual plane and it got accepted too.

BA 747-400 - not accepted due to a dust spot and blurring but can you spot that? The screeners have hawk eyes P: Its always a learning curve though when they tell you the reason why so its ok.

Air India has a beautiful colourscheme here is a 777-300.

I like to do close ups, here is a BA A319.

Lufthansa A321 in a retro 1970's livery. They do this to celebrate a special event in their history.

Air Canada 767-300.

It started to get cloudy at times with occasional light showers but it is April after all hehe.

Close up of BA 747-400, i like these kind of shots, now if only th sun would come out at these moments!

The crashed 777-200 of BA still its by the runway, soon they will break it up after investigations are completed, it can never fly again sadly.

Virgin A340-600 close up, interesting angle. The screeners rejected it for bad photo qaulity, well it was cloudy at that point!

I like this one! NWA A30 against a stormy backdrop. Rejected for being Grainy and noisey. ah well their loss. P:

The closer the better!

BA 747-400 landing behind a tree.

At 2pm i went to explore terminal 5 via the underground link ad took a few photos here including ones of departing planes. :D

Terminal 5 looks great, hopefully they can sort out the problems they are currently having with it, then it ill be a great terminal. It was good i went home when i did because soon there was a prolonged rain shower! I had a great time. :D

Here are the rest of the photos i uploaded.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/21967655@N08/sets/72157604551660958/

Also, i took a couple of short videos, one from the usual spot and one from underneath the runway. enjoy!

Here is Foxy the puppet at Heathrow too!

I will visit here again in May.
