April streams and "shrink wrapped" ice

Since my last post I have been busy with the house renovations. The old fiberglass attic insulation was replaced with blown cellulose and new ceilings installed. Tomorrow an energy audit will be done to assess how leaky the house is before the outside walls are reinsulated. This will hopefully result in a rebate of more than $1000. You are welcome to follow the progress in the renovations album.

Spring is slowly getting underway. Early April highlights include gushing streams and vernal ponds. Nighttime temperatures continue to dip below zero covering morning ponds with a thin layer of ice.

These leaves look like they're covered in shrink wrap ...

which quickly melts in the morning sun.

A stream winds through a narrow forest trench ...

... feeding this larger stream ...

... with its many lovely reflections.

Anonymous writes: I always enjoy following the seasons with you. Your photo vision is delightful and so different than most. It shows a keen interest in nature and wildlife and your writing is a nice compliment to the images. It's so obvious that you have a deep and caring interest in nature. A caring that transcends most humans who tend to take a human first approach to nature. Humans as top of the foodchain and therefore somehow more important. Your approach shows great appreciation for the diversity of nature, a kinder, greater approach. Great photos, great words... thanks you

Another gorgeous set of photos Christine! It sure does look like shrink wrap! Such amazing designs the ice, leaves, and reflections make. I'm off to see the rest of the photos.

Anon, wow, thank you for your lovely comments! It is so nice to know that you enjoy following my posts. Perhaps my photos are different because I’ve never taken art lessons, so in fact have no idea about what I "should" be doing. Also having a camera with virtually no zoom limits me to closer-ups which usually find me crawling around on the ground where I see these interesting things. Tis now the season for muddy knees! p But I am starting to envy people with good cameras and zoom lenses with the increased wildlife activity now. Perhaps someday when I'm richer. And now I think it’s finally time to shift away from ice to the emerging green. cool

Pam, thank you smile I always love getting your comments, and am especially appreciative of this one while you are going through a challenging time with your daughter’s trip to Kenya. Hopefully this means that you are feeling a little more at ease with it. I learn so much from each and every comment and am appreciative that you always take the time to share your views. Thanks smile

Moabdul, thank you too!

Mark, thank you. I like the word "regeneration" smile The house renovations are a little scary in that I've had to take a leap of faith that it will all be worth it in the end. Fingers crossed smile

Christine, I keep being drawn back to look at the photo of the narrow stream winding through the forrest. The curvature of the stream is like a female body and the stream looks like an evening dress complete with rooshing (sp?) that the ripples make. I learned that word watching Project Runway which is a reality show about clothes designers.

ChristineForestFloor Thursday, April 16, 2009 2:19:34 PM

Pam, ohhhhhh yes I see it too!! Wow!! A female body in profile with the skirt fluffing out front. You have such an artistic eye!! It is my favourite photo from this set, and especially so now. Thanks so much for pointing that out. What shall we call it?

Now I'm going to have to think about that for a bit. The first thing that came to mind was the song 'Islands in the Stream'. I'll have to go to YouTube to listen and maybe a name will pop into my head.

I lived in Canada for a long time and your photos bring back such wonderful memories of the coming spring.

Pam, great names! I like Dress of Spring too. And Stream of Fashion a close second. I thought of Flowing Dress or Lady of the Forest. You have such a knack for spotting these things. I'm envious smile

Lois, thank you smile It's such a wonderful time of year. I'm sure you remember the long winters and how happy everyone is with the first blast of warm weather. Yesterday it got up to 19C which was heavenly!! Big smiles all around. Where did you live in Canada?

PainterWoman Saturday, April 18, 2009 3:06:42 PM

I like Lady of the Forest.

So beautiful, Christine! You are extremely artistic and see things that many people would easily rush straight past. Looking forward to seeing what you do with spring's greenery! smile

ChristineForestFloor Thursday, April 23, 2009 2:08:03 PM

Adele, thank you! I'm looking forward to spring's greenery too! My first attempts this week were total duds due to being overexposed in the sunshine. Winter photography required bright sunshine whereas I think I am discovering that rainy day photos are best for spring.
