February album: A mid-winter wonderland.

February was a beautiful month with lots of sunshine and a stunning late month "winter wonderland" snowstorm. I continued my sunset walks, observing the effect of the softer late day light over the snow. Please visit my February album for a peek at mid-winter in Eastern Ontario smile

December: Frost, snow & ice

Wow, I have taken so many winter photos!! yikes After wading through hundreds I have started by assembling a December 2009 album here.

December was a beautiful month marked by stunning images of frost, snow and ice.


The creek gradually freezes over.


A spectacular Boxing Day ice storm coated everything in a thick layer of ice.





This branch looked like a creature in the movie Aliens!!

Light frost coated delicate plants and grass.



Sunrise through the frosted garage window.



A white-tailed deer approaches cautiously from the woods.


And evidence of a deermouse hopping along the snow.

Shadows and ice

The third major snowstorm of the season hit yesterday dumping a foot of powder snow. Mylo is in his element in these conditions smile


Today the trees cast beautiful patterns on our walking trail.





Earlier ...
On December 2 the creek was still flowing ..


Until this cold snap arrived on December 7. I call this field the "Actric Tundra" because it is so cold and windy walking along this stretch. That morning it was -11 with a -20C wind chill bigeyes If you look carefully you can see blowing snow against the treeline.


The next day the creek was frozen over and covered with strange looking ice formations ...
