Spring at last!

, , ,

At long last Spring has arrived! :hat: After 4 months of winter the woods have exploded with new growth. At first I struggled with the season change as winter photos are usually best taken in bright sunshine whereas vegetation seems best captured on rainy days, but I think I'm finally getting the hang of it.

In between renovation projects I have been snapping photos and have finally had time to create my Spring 2009 album.

In mid-April wild garlic quickly carpeted the forest floor.

A strong aroma of garlic is present, especially up close.

Dutchman's Breeches foliage nestled against a warm stone.

Large lilac buds.

The first wildflowers, Round-lobed Hepatica poking up through the leaves.

A bashful looking Bloodroot flower :o:

Spring Beauty nestled close to a tree.

Funky reflections of new grass.

Chipmunks up from their winter hibernation.

And finally, Mylo, after 4 months of eating snow is back to eating grass

Just lovely Christine! There is a very gentle light in this pictures - nothing harsh, just perfect!

The chipmunk is a cutie

I hope Mylo doesn't eat too much grass :yuck:

Adele, thank you! It's great to be back in the land of green after an eternity of snow and ice ... although I'm lagging everyone else by at least a month  Mylo will eat anything but lettuce but never overeats. Even during the coldest days of winter he'd ignore the bowl of kibble on the porch until his main meal at night.

Love the one of the white bloodroot flowers with the deep blue sky background! :)

Wonderful bunch of photos Christine, especially the white Hepatica flowers, the lavender Spring Beauty, the droplets of water on the garlic and the chipmunk. Love that look he's giving you. :D

The Dutchman's Breeches leaves looks a little like parsley. Is it edible?

Off to see the rest of your album.

Spring is wonderful!

- Both the chipmunk and of course your dog are adorable.

Nice spring pictures - thanks for sharing.

Anon, I’m so glad you enjoyed the "Hepatica" flowers  I almost missed them the first day I was crawling through the wild garlic leaves. I was just leaving when I saw this clump right in front of me. Here is another:

Pam, thank you! You are so observant. I was going to write that the chipmunk was "giving me some attitude" but left it out to see if anyone would pick up on the look  The Dutchman’s Breeches are not edible, but in fact potentially poisonous. Pretty leaves though.

Zaphira, thank you. Spring is amazing. It progresses so quickly that it’s almost getting away on me!! You have to be quick to keep up with the changes each day brings. I hope to start posting more wildlife photos so have started a Wildlife 2009 album.

Neil, thank you

Thanks for "flower correction" and other version! It's nice as well. It's fun to watch as spring springs forward! All that's missing is the sound of spring peepers :)
