Weak and Powerless

Reporting Live from Colombia

, , , , ,

Today, and tomorrow, my whole weekend will be full of cats. I am reporting live from Colombia. And I mean ALL of it, in just one place. The theme of the fair is Colombia itself, so there are representatives of every corner of Colombia in here.

Unfortunately my notebook and camera batteries both died this morning, so I have been a little bit busy trying to save energy for the reason I am here: a cat contest.

I have uploaded photos to the 'Kittens' album. A sneak preview:

Well. The story goes like this. As I didn't have batteries to spare, I couldn't take pictures of everybit I lived that day.

It was the first time we have been enrolled as part of the show, and not mere spectators, so as newbies, we arrived first hour in the morning, inocently carrying the kennel from the parking lot, to the entrance of the fair. First mistake. 5.5 Kg of cat, plus accessories, were about 7 Kg to carry for about 500 mts, with this weakling as 'man of the house' ( ) the backache was awful at the end of the journey, my arms ripped of from the inner body (i.e. muscles thorned from the inside) and my mental disposition was the one of an angry cat. Indeed, Mr. Smith was much better well behaved than me! A medical check up (for the cat, of course) and we were right into his cage. Double cage, of course. A 5.5 Kg cat can't stand being on a a single cage. He would certainly die asfixiated! or so my mom said. Next step, clean all the cage. I NEVER immagined cleaning bar by bar with ethilic alcohol would be so frustrating and time consuming!

Second mistake. Do not argue with your mom. Worst, don't argue with you mom about HER pet! Just shut up and clean the stupid cage.

With a number assigned, for the cat, of course, make sure he is comfortable in the cage. (How in heaven can he be confortable in a 50 x 100 cm sq cage and zillions of people he does not know, swarming around?). I have to accept, the shock therapy of being in front of so many people made the cat more docile lately. I suppose there is a good side effect from all that experience.

Back to numbers, the one assigned was... 73! ohh my, that would be a looong day. Not for mom, of course, she was all the time up there, working, chatting, laughing, looking cats, cleaning and helping, so who was the only one who should care and take a look at the cat? of course, this little man over here.

After a whole morning waiting, and half of the afternoon, approximately at 15.00 the turn was (finally!) for cat # 73... hey! that's ours! so, hush hush... care the cat, brush him and prepare him in a hurry.

Now! it is time! the strange german judge (he had a smile on his face! and also made jokes! I know they are a myth in Germany, but he actually laughed! At least a couple of times...) started looking at the cat. Everyone (that's me and mom) was there, helping, camera ready, waiting and intensely looking his not-so-cold german eyes for ANY signal of approval (or reaction, for that matter).

At the end, the judgement was over, the results sent to the mic and after a minute of silence, 'Cat number 73 has obtained the Champion Aptitude Certificate, Congratulations!'. Moment of ecstasy... silence and happyness...

The pictures say it all...

The eventful evening was almost over, at least for us. The 13th event of this kind was showing the rest of the cats (there were like 90 or so!) and we were simply watching while the cat slept.

What an easy life... damn. I wanted my life to be like his.

The not-so-live report continues, but with a post about the fair itself.

Another movie.
