HE WHO DOES NOT KNOW HISTORY, IS CONDEMNED TO REPEAT IT

by: Gabriel Bustamante Peña

When he barely started his first run for presidency, he wasn't even close to the 2% in the statistics, and his proposal wasn't from a traditional party to support and envision a possible electoral force. However, his antipolitical and anticorruption speeches, but mainly strong against a guerrilla filled with murderers, terrorists and without political goals, gave him an impressive popularity increase. A society tired of the criminal abuse, what had been converted the beligerant project, and a lack of results with a political solution were key to his huge success that put him to guide for the first time, the faith of the nation.

He finished his first period, not without changing the Constitution to let himself be reelected. And even without fullfilling his promise of ending the terrorism in the first period, his hits against the guerrilla were so accurate that he managed to put them against the wall, capture or kill a huge part of the beligerant leaders, drastically diminishing the violence in the whole country.

Alongside the antiterrorist fight, came also the economical recovery and the foreign investments. He was reelected by a big margin and his image was always close to 80% in popularity, and never below 70%. All of this, even with the big scandals about corruption and Human Rights violations that hindered the government. The shiny scheme he created, allowed him to avoid completely the accusations of crimes against humanity and the proven acts of political decomposition that were born in his government.

The corruption scandals started to touch his closest circles of power, even around his main colleagues and the Congress, which was then affected by one of the biggest crisis of illegitimacy in its history. Again, the political blindness came from the government itself, but the people avoided any mixture of the image of the president with this episode, that stank in an awful way. And not happy with his reelection, he started to plan how to remain in his position. Only this time, not because he liked it, but because he needed it: The fright of a future judgement turned him into the gifted and victim of his own throne.

His speech, every time more aggresive, leaned towards his political and social oposition to whom he stigmatized and ridiculized taking advantage of the main official channels. He polarized the country and started to cover himself as a delegate of true patriotism, in such way that, those who were against him, were also against the country, and therefore, should be considered terrorists.

He kept the media under his belt by dark bussiness alliances or by blackmailing them, and created a huge official propaganda to enhance his image.

He governed by putting all the power under his control, by weakening the institutions that allowed his own reelection. he allowed the corruption to run through the Government like never before and took public moral to its deepest crisis. He also converted the Army to his own, using them to his interests, not very favourable to human dignity.

He mistook popularity with legitimity and using that way, he came bigger than the Law and Constiturion. Attacked the Judicial Branch of the Government, so harshly that accused it of being enemy of democracy and personally confronted Justice, until he could break it.

Finally, afte 11 years as resident, and without the guerrilla scheme, a rain of scandal after scandal made him run away from the country and went to be declared as 'morally inconsistent' by the Congress. Today, Alberto Fujimori is at jail and faces processes of crimes against humanity and corruption. Crimes he commited with the blind support of the society, thisrty of vengeance and though hand and the lack of healthy critics and politica oposition that truly create a democracy, and differentiate them from the filthy practices and fallacies of a tiranny of majorities.

I hope you did not think this text was refered to our president and 'patron' Alvaro Uribe... because he and Fujimori do not have absolutely nothing in common.

Tagged again...

, , ,

Thanks Mar... the thing is done... now, the post...

The instructions:

A.People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog and replace any question they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves.Tag eight people.those who are tagged cannot refuse.

B.These eight people must state who they were tagged by.You cannot tag the person who tagged you.Continue this game by sending this to eight other people.

1.If your lover betrayed you. What will your reaction be?
-- :frown: I am not the one she expected me to be... but she's free to go.

2.What will you do if you do not share the same feelings as the person who likes you?
-- Being as gentle as I can be, try to explain the situation.

3.What if question number two was the other way around?
-- Same as answer 1... hahaha

4.Would you rather be dumped by your Girlfriend or see her cheating on you?
-- Dumped... absolutely (been there... done that...)

5.What's your ideal lover?
-- I know her. She knows me. I love her, she loves me. Freedom is love and love is freedom.

6.Which is more blessed.loving someone or being loved by someone?
-- Loving someone, without doubt.

7.If the person you like does not accept you.would you continue for them to change their feelings?
-- No. She is free to not-love me. If she does not like me for what I am, then it is just a waste of time.

8.If the person you like is already attached.what would you do?
-- Absolutely perfect. She is happy, I am happy. I have my own life too... I am not dependant on her... that would just be... sick.

9.If you could leave everything behind and go to a place to start anew.where would it be?
-- Argentina, Italia or UK.

10.What do you want most in your life?
-- Freedom.

11.Is being tagged fun?
-- Been there... hahaha... it is fun.

12.If you find out that your best friend is going out with your girlfriend or boyfriend.how would you react?
-- Very sad, but it is the same as if it weren't my best friend. (see answers 1 and 3)

13.Who is currently the most important person/s to you?
-- My parents.

14.What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?
-- Three words, multiplied by two: L.O.L. x F.U.N.

15.You always loved *fill in the blank*__________?
-- Freedom. Hahahahaa... (deja-vu?)

16.If a person you secretly like cannot recognize you.what would you do or how would you react?
-- Same as answer 7.

17.Would you give your all in a relationship?
-- No, because I don't understand what 'all' means. I thought I have given 'all' in return somewhere in the past, but I learnt that doing it was just plainly stupid. It is simply impossible.

18.If you fall in love with two persons simultaneously.who would you pick?
-- None. "I just vant to be alone".

19.What type of friends do you like?
-- Are there 'types' of friends?

20. Who/what is your inspiration?
-- Void.

We need to fight for it...

“Peleen para que cambien”: Rodolfo Llinás
Mensaje de científico colombiano a comunidad académica.

"Fight for a change": Rodolfo Llinás
Message from colombian scientist to the academic society.

News Agency UN (Universidad Nacional) - Bogota - The scientist Rodolfo Llinás Riascos, now visiting Colombia, invited the academic community to play a more active role in the society.

"To the group of academics we must tell them they have to fight for a change. The only ones that can force, are you. This is the time for revolution. We can't keep like this" - he said.

Llinás, considered at its time by the NY Times as one of the most prominents neurologists of the world, as well as one of the universal colombians at the same level of Gabriel García Márquez and Fernando Botero, sent a message to improve the status of the teachers of the University

"The teachers, first have to be recognized; second, give them the respect they need; third, give them better wages and fourth, give them better ways to show their own intelligence", he said.

The scientist Llinás talked prowdly of his years at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, in the late 50's and early 60's.

"Fantástico. Yo tuve dos Alma Máter. Yo hice Javeriana y Nacional.

"Fantastic. I had two Alma Mater. [Pontificia Universidad] Javeriana and [Universidad] Nacional. In the Nacional I learnt mathematics with Carlo Federici. I also learnt physiology. They helped me to be more deep with thoughts. Then, both universities are very special to me", claimed Llinás.

The colombian scientist had as counselor of his college thesis the italian mathematician Federici, who was one of the founders of the Mathematics Faculty of the UN. After that, in the university, Federici forged for him (Llinás) a logic course, and so, they started to work in neural networks, according to the ideas of McCullogh. That said the web page of the Grupo Federici.

Llinás will remain at Colombia until the next friday. You can read the whole text of the interview in the next edition of the UN Periódico [newsletter of the Universidad Nacional], in which he talks about his research, and the progress in the field of study of the brain and conciousness, as well as the education, the science and technology in Colombia.

:yikes: Carlo Federici was my math teacher when I was in 1st year of elementary school!!! He scared me like hell!!! but I never knew he was such an important person!!

Back on topic, it is obvious how relevant this is... This country does not need to end with the guerrillas like if they were vermins... well... maybe they are, but so is the goverment, and the militia, so no... adding war to the war is not the way to go. That's the easy, and improper way. We need education, and that's something we do not understand.

Hope you enjoy

The next step in human evolution?

, , , ...

Well... no, it is already quite difficult to determine what a 'step' is, so this is not the next step in the human evolution, but it is actually an idea I gathered from reading different sources... so basically is just focused in this analogy I am building up right now...

If a single-celullar being took millions of years to learn that grouping armoniously with other single-celled organisms was both a huge advantage and a high risk, but that has been worth it; how much time will take us, humans as 'individuals', to realize that competition is counter-productive, and that the next step in our own evolution is to bind ourselves as one being, as our cells did millions of years ago?

Of course, we can work in group, and as a team too, but to be honest, we are behaving more like rats, than like a cohesive group or team: at the first sign of trouble, the rats leave the ship abandoned to ill fortune. A cell cannot do that... to be part of a multi-cellular entity, means that the cell has to have ultimate commitment: If the cell next to me dies, I die as well...............; but we, as humans, just wander around like single-cellular automata, learnt, by force, that competition is the way to go, that the one that has more money/love/friends/success/internal knowledge of itself/whatever adjective or sustantive you want to put here, is the best

Forgive me

, ,

... for my behaviour lately...

Here I present, my notes to a psychiatrist.

It has been some quite hard time lately so my brain is rushing through the corner full of adrenaline, bipolarity and heisenberg's uncertainty. As a result, here will be a bare and naked dump of all those different layers and three (or more) dimensional waypoints inside this brain that makes my own existance possible. This is my unorganized brain (what is order, anyway?)... ok, ok... let's say that this post, and some of the previous, and some of the ones to come, are my non-orthodox connections to the world; one of my OTHER points of view of my own angle in the perception of myself... so basically it will be a lot of nonsense and jibberjabber mixed with hopelandic. (let at the oven like this for, at least 365 hours)
