Actually it was not too thick...I'm not what rare conditions caused the patterns to form: I have looked many times since and have not found frost/ice like this on the car. I had to work quickly to take these, as the sun was warming everything up, and the frost soon disappeared...much to my regret! (Fortunately i didn't have to go anywhere in particular that morning.
