Hi,Ze! smile Here is your answer finally:

When you look at the tree (Japanese maple) in the middle of the photo, do you see tiny new branches growing a few feet from the ground? Those are the branches you can see in the center of the photo at: http://my.opera.com/365/albums/showpic.dml?album=392478&picture=7709793

Sadako has been my "pet tree" since she was a tiny shoot with just a couple leaves! I transplanted her from a neighbor's hedge, where she had started growing and where the neighbor did not want it. Sadako is over 20 years old now. smile

Great... I was findind that same branches in this photo...but as you can see it´s dificult to me because I don't know this place alive...so this branches in this photo, it seem a shrub behind the tree!

So now I understand that, this leaves are not hight in the "pet tree"!

Lovely to know all about this beautiful tree! winkwink

Ze, do you know if there are any Portuguese/EU restrictions on you receiving maple tree seeds in the mail? I would be happy to send you some of the seed pods from Sadako (with the stamps), but don't know whether this would be permitted by your Customs Service? Perhaps you will know where to look to find out.

José Torreszetorres Sunday, July 20, 2008 7:31:08 PM

smile That's good to hear, and I look forward to knowing what you find out.

I remember learning about Portuguese explorers in school in Australia...and do you know that now Australian children are taught that it may have been Portuguese mariners who were the first Europeans to visit Australia? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_exploration_of_Australia

This theory has been much discussed in Australia over the last 30 years or so, and now more recently some pretty conclusive evidence has been found: http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSSYD3449720070321 How about that! bigsmile

José Torreszetorres Sunday, July 20, 2008 9:19:51 PM

Wow! I'm so happy for that! And the children like to know about that?
It is really posible! We have descovery by sea lots of places! Cristovão Colombo was portuguese! up

Lots of places was descovered by Portugueses but in secret because the English, Nederdals, and Spanish! bigsmilebigsmile
