If you search on Google for Deer Park at 2499 Melru Lane, Escondido, CA. 92026 you can see where they are, and then can locate the area of the monastery fairly easily on the KPBS map, just north and east of Escondido...to the right of the bend in Rte 15.

May all beings be safe and peaceful!

Yes, we are fine, thanks. I have one daughter living in Los Angeles, not far from the fires, and I am a member of a Buddhist sangha that has a monastery SE of L.A. (http://www.deerparkmonastery.org/), and many of us were concerned about the safety of the monks and nuns and laypeople there, so I posted the link to enable those who know where the monastery is to see how close the fires came. The monastery was evacuated for a short time, but all were okay, and the property is fine too. So is my daughter, but we are all sorry for the losses of many homes in the area.

We are currently living in the mid-Atlantic area, but will move to the Pacific NW fairly soon. Are you in an area that gets frequently hit by hurricanes? (Or would that describe all of Florida?)

Glenn Uttuttopia Wednesday, October 15, 2008 12:51:18 AM

Hurricanes about every 5 years here, but Florida, of curse 1-2 times a year. This year nothing! It was fun trying to make frog sounds. We have some large ones in the trees around us. A couple of times I have opened my shed door and one will startle me! Used to want to keep those I caught in captivity, but they were not happy!
