What Am I Doing Right Now?

After showing several game shop managers just how easy it is to make a grown man cry, I got my game two days early yesterday and have been playing it ever since. Is it everything I expected? Not quite. Is it something very special anyway? Hell yeah.

Typically yesterday was also the day that the builders finally got around to remodeling our kitchen which meant we spent some of the day with no electricity. Anyway, the drilling's getting on our nerves and we're already sick of living out of the microwave so we're visiting Kim's gran all today.

Not much else going on really. Exciting lives eh? Laters folks and folkettes.

I'm lying on my sofa playing Infinite Undiscovery right now. Having accidentally saved over my 27 hour game on Easy difficulty with a new game on Normal, I've decided to dedicate my time to Normal difficulty now that I know how it plays. Excellent game. I'm discovering more and more as I get deeper into it that I never found last time. Little character pieces, the colour of the heroine's underwear (revealed in a sequence between her and the main character) and the excellent item creation system which allows much earlier access to weapons and armour than the story does. By the time I was five hours in I already had better armour than I could buy in the game I saved over.

I've had toothache for the past couple of days. It's not actually all that bad but it's got me scared. Last time I had toothache it took several years before I could find a dentist that would take me on, during which time I'd developed an infection underneath one of my teeth, at the root. I had to have the tooth pulled and it had been so long before I'd managed to get it treated that the tooth had rotted inside. As he was pulling it, it crumbled leaving just the nerve which he had to use to pull it out. I've had a lot of damage done to my body over the years but that was the single most painful experience of my life. So yeah, having just moved to a new town, I'm a bit worried that this toothache is the start of something like that again. It'll get sorted eventually, but for now it's just hard to shake the feeling.

So anyway, game and pain. That's why I haven't really been actively commenting as much as I usually do. We're only just getting our lives back on track after I was laid up for a couple of weeks with that awful unshakable, choking cough that was going round. I feel so sorry for Kim having to look after me when I'm like that. I rarely get ill with the little things so I'm not really used to it. I guess I'm like a child with an illness when I do come down with these things as I don't know what to do. It must be really annoying for her.

You've probably guessed by the fact that I'm posting this, that I've survived the past two days. What you wont know is how much they've affected me. It's only little things that have happened, but there's been a lot of them and my mind is full to bursting point right now.

People who've been reading this page recently will know that I recently won an N82 loaner phone for my participation in the S60 Ambassadors project. What you don't know, cause I've kept quiet about it til I was sure no-one was in trouble over it, is that the phone arrived yesterday only it wasn't an N82. No, when I opened the package out tumbled two Samsung phones packed with developer applications. Seriously, of all the people they could make that mistake with, they made it with me. The fools!

***sounds of maniacal laughter emanate from the post***

Ahem, anyway... There's an N82 on it's way to me again along with a prepaid bag to send the Samsung phones back. All's well that ends well, and I've been helping myself to what I can get out of the developer apps.

Long time readers will know that I've been drooling over a video game called Fable 2 for over a year now, and that I've got some pretty unrealistic hopes for it. Well today the Official Xbox Magazine came out with the first playtest of the game, and it appears that my hopes are met and smashed in every way. This is so going to be game of the year when it comes out around Christmas. Keep your eyes open for it guys. When you see it on shelves, don't expect to see me for a while.

Roads were all backed up yesterday. Luckily we were on foot. Unluckily the people in cars were so impatient that they were willing to run a red light by driving on the wrong side of the road. What this meant to me was that I had one foot in the road at a crossing, looking to my right to make sure I wasn't run over, when six cars zoomed past me on the wrong side of the road from my left. If Kim hadn't have pulled me back I probably wouldn't be here now. I was so shocked and angry that I didn't get a single plate number or even drag anyone out of their cars.

This morning my headset arrived from Nokia for my participation in the Widsets beta test. It also included a Widsets neckstrap and two album vouchers for Nokia Music Store.

There's more that's happened but I can't really put it all together in my head yet so I'm gonna stop here.

Had a huge walk today and got a little lost as we went hunting for the local video rental store. Of course, we got caught in the sudden opening of the heavens and soaked through to our skins but, all in all, it was a good refreshing walk and made a nice change from our usual routines. I rented the new Alone In The Dark game at the store when we finally found it and had several heart attacks while playing it. I've just actually entered Central Park itself in the game so there should be plenty more to do.

Moving briskly on, Darko raised a point recently that got me thinking about this time last year, when the same thing happened for a few months. People are away on their holidays or pursuing other hobbies in the summer, which is all well and good for them but leaves the rest of us with less comments and posts to read while we're here. If you're like me and this is your primary hobby you'll be getting bored with it about now.

So as this point made me think about what happened last year it also gave me an idea on how to help give more value per read from my own page. From now on most of my What Am I Doing Right Now? posts shall end with a new section - a link to a post made exactly a year ago on that day. And here's the first one.

What Am I Doing Right Now?

Today has been a good day.

We spent the majority of it at Kim's Gran's house, visiting. That allowed me to get some new music. I've got a phone that's capable of HSDPA speeds, and a network that supports them, but our network doesn't cover our home with those speeds meaning I'm reduced to 5kb per second downloads. It's ridiculous. Luckily Kim's Gran's house is covered by our network so I make a point of downloading an album each time we visit now.

More good mobile news is that both Opera and Google have updated their mobile sites in the past week or so to recognise more different phones. While the applications they give out aren't all that different, this does mean that you'll be more likely to get the right icon size for your phone now instead of the tiny ones we used to get. Always remember to delete the old version first, before attempting a new download.

Final bit of good stuff happened on the way home when I spotted a spare ten pound note just sitting there waiting for me. That used to happen to me at least once a week but hasn't happened since we moved out of my home town years ago. We used some of it to buy an expansion pack for Kim's game and the rest on munchies.

Today has been a good day and, like all the really good days, it was little bonuses that made it that way.

I'm so chilled out and happy and it's all thanks to a calculator. Thanks to the difference in rent at our new place, as well as a much better benefits determination we're now quite a bit better off financially.

£4.35 per day better off.
£132.50 per month.
That's £1,590 per year.

Yeah, all my utility bills were included in the last place, but we've worked out that they'll barely come to half the amount that we're better off by now. It's great. Our quality of life will go up quite a bit thanks to this. And that's why I'm doing the Snoopy dance while I'm typing this.

I've been catching up on the latest news and something caught my eye by it's omission. Looks like France is banning photos of certain unrealistically thin models. Bravo to them. It's just a shame that it took the death of one of their models and a rise in pro-anorexia websites to make it happen. Hopefully this will mark a change in the views of the world, and we'll see women start to look like women again instead of the adolescent boy look that so many women strive for these days.

Just been reading a review of the latest Grand Theft Auto game, due out next Tuesday. Part of the design statement of this game is to give players plenty to do outside of missions. While wining and dining friends and girlfriends sounds pretty interesting, and bowling, pool and darts minigames have been included, it's the comedy clubs that really caught my eye. They were just mentioned in passing with no details, but I know the first place I'm going looking for in a week's time. The second place would be one of the internet cafes to check my in game e-mail (complete with spam) and maybe indulge in a little online dating.

I've been feeling a little detached recently. You may have noticed a distinct lack of personal posts, and now you know why. Should be back to normal soon. I don't know what's been wrong, but I've just been feeling kind of not here if you know what I mean.

Future Posts - Read an excellent book a while back which I'll be sharing with you all sometime soon. And I've got a few posts lined up which should be fun for people. You may even get a few game stories when GTA arrives on the scene.
