The Dark Furie

Opera Mini 4

The bar for mobile browsing just got raised over at Opera Mini.

I'm off out at the moment, so can't test it fully. But I did notice a virtual mouse as well as 4-way scrolling.

Hmmm, wouldn't let me post this from the new beta. Grrr...

theoddbod Tuesday, June 19, 2007 10:33:39 AM

Did it just ask you to login again? I haven't had any problems posting apart from the login not persisting for very long. I haven't tried a blog entry though, only posts and comments.

theoddbod Tuesday, June 19, 2007 10:38:11 AM

Worked for me, although I only did a test sentence.

Dark FurieFurie Tuesday, June 19, 2007 11:11:19 AM

Hmmm... It keeps losing what I enter in text fields.

theoddbod Tuesday, June 19, 2007 11:53:34 AM

I haven't had any problems yet apart from the login thing. Plus I keep using my knackered joystick to scroll when I don't need to.

Dark FurieFurie Tuesday, June 19, 2007 12:22:45 PM

You found the context menu on key 1 yet?

theoddbod Tuesday, June 19, 2007 4:52:16 PM

First thing i actually unambiguously liked - i'm not sold on the new interface yet. I've had one crash so far - that was when trying to reload a 250k page.

Bad WolfCois Wednesday, June 20, 2007 9:46:45 AM

This is actually hard... Playing with it now for first time and had to use fit to screen to get to comments..
Small screen rendering? Not like in Opera Mini..

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:07:52 AM

It plays differently depending on the site you view. It's actually better when it's not on My Opera, in my opinion.

theoddbod Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:22:25 AM

Yeah, My Opera is one of the sites that it doesn't look good on. Amazon looks superb, although as it's very cookie-heavy i wouldn't use it until they've definitely fixed the cookie problem.

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:38:49 AM

It was Play that blew me away. Here's a question. Most things on mine were identified as pop-ups on the address bar at the top. Anyone else have that happen?

Bad WolfCois Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:44:48 AM

Haven't played around with it enough.. went to a few sites and it works quite well.. then it said out of memory but it didn't want to reload..
Couldn't find posts on watched items page.. but I guess they'll fix it..

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:54:12 AM

Were you using the back button to save memory? I found that you have to reload the watched items page every time you want to view something from it. Hopefully that'll change before it's full release.

Bad WolfCois Wednesday, June 20, 2007 11:10:43 AM

I use history to get to watched items.. on this phone using the back button still reloads a page so I don't save on data costs..

theoddbod Wednesday, June 20, 2007 11:11:25 AM

What do you mean, popups on the address bar?

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, June 20, 2007 11:37:01 AM

Well on this one, at the top, it says Opera Mini 4 - A Man...

On Dimension it said Popup: Opera Mini 4...

theoddbod Wednesday, June 20, 2007 1:06:18 PM

It doesn't do that for me. I do get a grey border down the right, but that's because i didn't login in and the password box is screwed up. There's still a good bit of work to be done. Amazon looks great generally but the three entities used to search (dropdown, textbox and Go button) are crazily spaced.

Bad WolfCois Wednesday, June 20, 2007 2:59:53 PM

My yahoo searchengine is now just a white screen on 4.
Can only use url only.. is this just me?

theoddbod Wednesday, June 20, 2007 3:04:12 PM

Apparently the cookie issue has just been fixed. Time to test again...

theoddbod Wednesday, June 20, 2007 4:07:17 PM

Nope, the logins are still screwed. irked
This is one of those things i can't believe wasn't spotted in earlier testing, so it's probably a deployment bug when they moved from the internal servers to the main ones.

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, June 20, 2007 4:55:56 PM

I don't use Yahoo search, I'm a google man so I can't comment on it. Use the feedback link to report it though.

Bad WolfCois Wednesday, June 20, 2007 8:53:43 PM

I'm using google by using the go to url link...
It sometimes work.. even with opera mini..
Was going through my emails at gmail.. kept logging me off.. but I backbuttoned and clicked again and it let me through..

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:00:31 PM

Hmmm, that shouldn't happen...

Bad WolfCois Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:07:00 PM

Using it now... Keeps logging me off.. Can't do it here though..

theoddbod Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:11:18 PM

Wow! Three posts! That happened to me before too.

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:15:17 PM

I'm always tidying up after you boys. The sooner you leave home, the better.
irked

theoddbod Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:17:15 PM

Yes, Auntie Furie

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:22:21 PM

Hmmm... That reminds me.

theoddbod Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:31:35 PM
