Meet the recently announced Nokia N97, also known as "the phone that Furie designed in his head about ten years ago and has been waiting patiently for." Yeah, N97 does have a better ring to it, doesn't it.

When this side-sliding, designed for using the web, little beauty hits the stores it'll be Nokia's new flagship model and you wont be able to stop hearing about it. Between television adverts, magazine double page spreads, and that idiot we all know who only uses their phone for occasional calls but still has to have the very latest model, this phone will be everywhere...and with good reason too. From what I've heard, Mik... Nokia's Nseries are all buggy. I'm not sure about this one, but my N76 definitely is. And I've tried N70, buggy too. rolleyes

I know that all smartphones are buggy with first release software, but the N73's been out for a while now. Surely the firmware is up to a decent standard by now?

Type *#0000# on the standby screen and it'll tell you what version firmware you've got. Let me know and I'll see if it needs updating. bigsmile

That explains it. I believe the N73 is up to version 20 firmware now and yours is still at version 4. Is it locked to a network?

Can you put a SIM card in there from a different network than you're on?

If you can't there's a chance they've branded the phone with the network's own software which can't be updated. Otherwise you should be able to get the latest update from most phone shops and it'll make the phone run better.

In South Africa, only branded phones will work correctly on South African network. awww.
If you don't have branded firmware on your phone, you can get a branded firmware update if you have a supported model. Of course, you have to pay for the 'privilege' of have thier custom firmware ported to your phone. irked

We only have one network in my city which works in CDMA format so they have SIM's that cannot be removed from the phone. It's not very popular due to numerous rеаsons.
My network works in GSM standard just like 3 other and if it wasn't the best network ever wink I could easily throw away their SIM and put one of another mobile provider.

I kinda suspected that the root to my problem is in the firmware.
I even think my phone has a function of updating its own firmware.
One rеаson I've never pressed the button is because all my files and pictures will be lost, right?

Looks like my estimated price was quite a bit off, by the way folks.

Announced price before contract subsidies and taxes is €550, £470, $694, ZAR7150, RUB19,436. A bit more affordable but still a high end phone.
