The Dark Furie

Silver

, ,

The Symbian Foundation have finally released a phone theme that incorporates their new stylings and I'm in love with it. So much so that I've extracted the background image and am planning on incorporating it into this page design to make things a bit more stylish. Of course it'll need blowing up a little and if the quality suffers too much I'll scrap the idea, but it may work.

For those of you that like the look of this stylish phone theme and own a Series 60 phone (3rd or 5th edition) you can download it from here.

It's cute! :D
I could be wrong, but did you post something similar a while back? Like, a long while back?

Furie 4. November 2009, 20:59

I said I was going to work on a blog theme using their unique styling, for general use on the site. As it happens I've had the theme code and images finished for a while but I can't upload the images yet because I can't get to a web enabled PC and mobile uploading lowers the quality quite a bit with larger images. :frown: I'll get it done sometime though, even if it has to wait til we're online at the start of the year. :D

rose-marie 4. November 2009, 21:03

Coolie! The start of the year isn't that far away :D.

Furie 4. November 2009, 21:38

That's what we've been doing this year. Preparing to shell out all the money we need to go online. See we need to keep the same hard drive on our console once we go online, but that means we need a bigger one first and the wireless connector so the ISP will set it all up together. Then we need a copy of an operating system for our PC, because the set-up can wipe it apparently and our PC was cheap enough that everything came installed but with no backup disk. It's a couple of hundred quid all together but it'll save us money in the long run and give us a few more options for things.

Plus I'll finally get to spend the many many Microsoft points I bought four years ago on stuff for our Xbox 360 games too, after we've downloaded all the preorder bonuses we got with our games but never got to use anyway.

Moesring 5. November 2009, 00:32

Let me get this straight. You have been warned that setting up your computer with a particular ISP may leave your PC unusable?

If so, it sounds to me as though you should be looking around for a better provider. If setting up an Internet connection with them is that dangerous then their software/technicians/both are incompetent. Either that, or they're after extorting more money out of you.

Oops. I accidentally wrecked your computer during setup. There wasn't anything important on there, was there? Oh, there was?

:sst: By the way, did I mention that one of our partner companies specialises in data recovery?

gdare 5. November 2009, 05:53

Yes, this sound weird for me, too. If you are going wireless on that PC it is just a piece a of plastic box attached to your usb or network card and some minor settings inside Windows OS :left:

qlue 5. November 2009, 07:47

You could probably make good use of my new hard disk drive. p:.
It's actually illegal in most countries to sell software without an original install disk. :left:.
You might want to consider using System Rescue CD as a tool for backing up your system. But be warned, it's meant for IT professionals so it's got a bit of a learning curve if you don't know Linux. (I keep a copy with me on a usb flash drive for emergencies p:)

Furie 5. November 2009, 10:34

There's only one company that's both affordable, reputable and supports consoles as well as PCs. I think it's just a regular bit of small print to cover their asses that they warn you should have a copy of the OS, but I don't wanna risk spending money on the rest of this stuff then finding our PC is unusable and we're paying a monthly fee for it to be like that. A monthly fee that would make it take longer to pay for that OS.

Zaphira 5. November 2009, 13:41

Cool theme! At first I thought it looked like little amoebas... :left:

Furie 5. November 2009, 15:17

There's rockets, pencils, a lizard that is half jigsaw. It's such a unique style. :D

rose-marie 5. November 2009, 15:20

I see Pac Man too

qlue 5. November 2009, 20:43

I downloaded but I forgot to install it! Homer: Doh!.

Furie 6. November 2009, 08:49

Diabolical 7. November 2009, 06:25

I shalt be back.. :knight:

theoddbod 19. November 2009, 23:12

Scary ISP :eyes: Are you going the 3G broadband route?

Furie 20. November 2009, 00:31

It's Virgin. Like I say it's probably just to cover their asses. Been a few hundred years since I used a PC to access the web so I don't really know. The reaction here has been enough to convince us we don't need a backup disc though.

theoddbod 20. November 2009, 00:53

Well, you don't need a backup disk for this. However, a backup disk is something it's always wise to have. I'm amazed they didn't even give you a recovery disk (basically an image of the install), although I've seen some actually store this on the hard disk too.
You've got Vista Home Premium/Basic?

Furie 20. November 2009, 12:30

Something like. Bear in mind it's an ASDA PC and cost less than a mid-range phone.

theoddbod 20. November 2009, 13:08

I didn't even know they sold them :sherlock:

Furie 20. November 2009, 14:04

Yeah. In our case they only had a couple left and we'd taken out enough money that we either had to hit a bank at half six or wait til the next day so we asked them to hold one for us. Came back the next day in the afternoon to find it on the shelf with a note taped to the front of the box with Kim's name and phone number on in nice big writing. I was not impressed, to the point they knocked ten percent off the price there and then, without clearing it with the manager. I'm pretty sure we could have gotten the PC for free and a taxi home if we'd insisted. Funny now, wasn't then.

Got that when we first moved in and since then we've bumped the graphics and sound as well as pumping up the RAM as high as it'll go. The first RAM upgrade we performed like surgery, being ever so careful.

theoddbod 20. November 2009, 18:29

I'd have gone for a second hard disk rather than upgrading the sound. In-built sound is fine for most things these days - 7.1 surround sound is on most motherboards by standard now.
RAM upgrades aren't as bad as they used to be p:. I remember jamming a 1MB chip in years ago and being sure it was either going to snap or bust the PC. Then going into the BIOS and being actually having to type in the new amount of RAM :D

theoddbod 20. November 2009, 18:30

Of course, on a cheap pc i guess the default sound might well have sounded dreadful.

theoddbod 20. November 2009, 18:32

I just bought another one about 2 weeks ago - a barebones one that's using the tv as a display. Works very well :D

Furie 20. November 2009, 20:26

Last time I used the TV for a display was on my Spectrum.

gdare 20. November 2009, 20:29

Back then dinosaurs were walking around P:

Diabolical 20. November 2009, 21:45

And I'm back..

gdare 21. November 2009, 06:51

From egg? :insane:

Furie 21. November 2009, 10:29

That's how wolves are born.

Diabolical 22. November 2009, 21:34

Vomit children not eggs you dolt..
Sweet theme dude. Had to extract it from zip to put on 5800 and so finally got to use that function on X-plore Homer: Doh!

Furie 22. November 2009, 23:46

You got a 5800?

Diabolical 23. November 2009, 18:18

My brother does. I just play with it every chance I get as to leave him with a mobile without any data, airtime or power.

Furie 23. November 2009, 20:10

You've learned so much.
