The My Opera CSS Generator
Monday, 20. April 2009, 10:15:00
Note
This generator should show on the page in most good browsers (including mobile and console based browsers), however Internet Explorer users will have to download the browser advertised on the sidebar.
The GIGO adage applies to all themes created with this generator.
Some people have pointed out a problem using this generator while it's embedded in a post so try using this direct link.
What This Generator Can Do
-
Setting A New Banner Image
Clicking "Change Banner" will open the Banner Settings box. This is where you enter the web address of the banner image you want to use.
If you choose to use a small image, we suggest clicking the repeat option to tile it as a banner. Alternatively you could just place it on the right or left to get the desired look.
The Hide Titles option does exactly what it says - it hides your blog title from view. This is best used when you've designed your own banner and included the title as part of it. -
Background Settings
Clicking "Change Background" will open the Background Settings box. This is where you enter the web address of the background image that you want to use.
Choosing to repeat the image either horizontally, vertically or both will tile the image across your page.
Clicking the Photoblog option will apply the same background image to your blog content. As the images can sometimes get in the way of reading the text this is best if only used by photoblogs. -
Dark "Download The Opera Browser" Button
This option replaces the current Download Opera button in your sidebar with a darker button created by Espenao.
This is best when used on blogs that have Darkside as their basic theme. -
Hide Share Links
At the bottom of each My Opera blog post are some links that allow readers to easily share the post on social bookmarking sites such as Facebook or Digg. Clicking the "Hide Share Links" option simply hides those links from view. If you don't want them then just click that option.
Instructions
~
We hope that you enjoy using it and that it enhances your experiences of this community in some way.
- Click the categories you wish to use.
- Enter the web addresses for your banner or background where asked and click the options of your choice.
- Click "Produce Code" at the bottom of the generator.
- Copy the produced code.
- Click My Page/Design/Custom Style Sheet.
- Paste the the code into the text field.
- Select "Use my custom style sheet together with the current theme".
- Click SAVE.
- Now go to your page and reload it to see the changes.
Example
And finally, an example of something quickly (two minutes to find the files and enter the names) thrown together using this generator. This example has the banner applied, the background image tiled horizontally but not vertically and the dark Opera Download button activated.

Have a play with this and see if you can create the blog theme that's right for you. It's simple enough to use and the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Let us know if you have any questions not covered in this guide, or if you create something cool and want to show it off.![]()

More from me when I get home.
Those afore-mentioned personal obligations are calling.
Quick question: is there a link? I don't see one (but that could be the university's fault) or is it just a sneak preview?
Furie # 20. April 2009, 11:03
No link at the moment. The file is embedded in the post. Did it yesterday but I had to check the sizes when everything was open.
Also got a surprise for you involving this.

Thank you both!
I actually giggled when I read that!

Did anyone tell you that I don't like surprises?
Don't thank me!
It is him and his ideas that deserve all the praise. I was just the dogsbody.

I'll finish up and send you the last options tonight. They're mostly additional things to add according to the boxes people click, but one involves a new checkbox in the banner section. Your real life things come first of course, so don't rush to do it.
As for the surprise, well you'll just have to wait and see, wont you.

Which browser should I use?

If your browser doesn't support JavaScript, or you have disabled it, then you will be able to see the page but it won't do anything. You will also see a line saying "This page needs JavaScript". I've reworded the message to (hopefully) make it more apparent that it won't work (at all) without JavaScript.
In terms of browsers, the generator works fine on Opera Mini 3 and 4 as well as various desktop browsers.

I was getting worried because I thought the issue was with the page itself, not the embedding.
I may have a related issue that causes my Opera 9.64 to ignore the embedded page completely (but it is fine in Opera 10 and clones of that evil browser beginning with an F). Until using one of said clones today, I didn't even realise that the page was embedded because I only see the link.
I know Opera 9.64 can handle embedded pages because I did it in a draft post in my own blog two months ago and didn't have any problems at all in any version of Opera (including Mini). For some reason, it just doesn't like it on this post.

I'm going to add a direct link to the notes section for people that are having trouble.
qlue # 22. April 2009, 13:44
Try adding the 'embed' tag like the way YouTube codes there embed coding. It's not an official tag, but it probably makes a difference.

This thing is actually possible at My Opera anyway. Under Edit Blog Settings, it's the checkmark "Enable content sharing". When unticked, the social networking buttons do not appear.
