The Dark Furie

Working On My Blog Theme

, ,

This may take some time as I'm doing this via my phone using several mobile browsers. The aim is to get it looking like the following image again. Wish me luck, and vote for me in the MyOpera Awards based on the image please.

As you can see, the menu seems to have been oddly affected by the recent update. I've almost got it back to normal in Opera and Firefox now, but Internet Explorer is being stubborn. irked.

You can click the image above to see some of the other themes I've created, and the image below to cast your vote for my theme in the MyOpera Awards.

I'm sure you will get it back to normal again soon.
Good luck! up

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 1:37:56 PM

Thanks Tils. Got it on Opera and Firefox, although I can't figure out what's causing there to be a gap between the menu and the page itself.

KittyliciousZaphira Wednesday, November 26, 2008 1:45:58 PM

Oh, now we're at it, the "latest comments"-section on the right side is acting strange. I think the comments may be white text on white background; I can only see the names of the ones who commented.

Moesring Wednesday, November 26, 2008 1:47:43 PM

I was about to mention that Zaphira. awww
It is indeed white text on a white background. up

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 1:55:48 PM

Should be white on black now? Sorry about this, it's all black text on a white background to me. lol

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 2:00:04 PM

Right, menu is as good as it's going to get. I don't know about PCs but on mobile it seems that IE is adding an extra line between the archive, photos and about sections of the menu, yet not between the blog and archive sections strangely... sherlock.

As for the gap between the banner and the page content it seems that both Opera and IE are doubling up the space I define for the menu... There's nothing in my code or MyOpera's code that should make it do that. I've replaced things bit by bit and nothing changes. confused Time to kidnap Fred and get him coding for me. devil

KittyliciousZaphira Wednesday, November 26, 2008 2:15:49 PM

I see that the same thing happens to you that happens to me when I try to fix things. You fix one thing, and then another one goes weird. Now the text is black on white background in the latest comments-section, but your banner is all white. sad

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 2:35:45 PM

I named it background not banner. You should've seen me going mad trying to figure out why it wasn't working. lol

KittyliciousZaphira Wednesday, November 26, 2008 2:55:20 PM

Ah! lol
And now I also see the infamous gap.

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 3:45:34 PM

Yeah, the gap is now evident on all browsers, and I can't figure out how to change it. cry I even turned my entire page invisible and it wasn't affected.

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 3:53:13 PM

Almost finished... Although this has ruined the idea for an upgrade that I had. If I'm right the gap should be hidden for everyone now? And the page should be pretty much transparent?

Moesring Wednesday, November 26, 2008 4:33:10 PM

That's not exactly what I see. down

It could be that I'm misunderstanding what you are trying to describe, so here is a nice large image showing what Moesring sees (1280x920 - 116KB). happy

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 4:44:03 PM

How about now? When you can't fix something, make it work for you. happy

Moesring Wednesday, November 26, 2008 4:51:31 PM

I don't see any change.

Lower down on the page I can see a background that says "The Dark Furie" in white lettering on a black background, and scrolls down the page as I do (ie a fixed background). I don't remember seeing that before. up

Unfortunately, at the top of the page, it is behind the other backgrounds and so is not visible. awww

r♡serose-marie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 4:53:20 PM

Good luck/look bigsmile.

There seems to be a chunk of back background with the text "The Dark Furie" following the scrolling underneath the comments (only visible between them), and the sidebar making that unreadable.

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 4:54:39 PM

It's meant to be that way. It's a secret compartment. bigsmile

Knut Remi "DrLaunch" Løvlidrlaunch Wednesday, November 26, 2008 5:24:59 PM

Fixing your page completely in Opera can some times fix problems in other browsers too. When your CSS gets complicated, being strict about your code will help reduce errors.

That said, I'll let my Dragonfly loose here some time soon and see what it can scoop up.

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 5:44:39 PM

Any help is a bonus mate. bigsmile It's a pain in the arse to do this via mobile, I can tell ya. lol

funzfunz81 Wednesday, November 26, 2008 7:24:11 PM

leftright I was on pc earlier, and I saw your banner was just plain white. But then I noticed this post...
Oh... Shall I vote now or wait for you to finish the work first? p

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 7:42:36 PM

It's as finished as it can be right now so I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a vote-burger today. yes

funzfunz81 Wednesday, November 26, 2008 7:45:23 PM

*goes voting*

See ya next month p

Bad WolfCois Wednesday, November 26, 2008 8:37:23 PM

Did I vote? I can't remember p

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 9:03:51 PM

To work people. Show the world that us mobloggers are just as valid to this site as anyone else, in a category that a PC user would normally win.
*cracks the whip he borrowed from Fan's dungeon*

And while you're at it, spread the word about Zaphira For Best Feline/Female Blog. Turns out I'm too lazy to campaign after all.
bigsmile

funzfunz81 Wednesday, November 26, 2008 9:12:08 PM

You know... To be honest, I was surprised when I didn't find you in 'the best blog by a male'. Odd left

funzfunz81 Wednesday, November 26, 2008 9:13:37 PM

And gimme back my whip, you didn't give me enough Heineken for that mad

Knut Remi "DrLaunch" Løvlidrlaunch Wednesday, November 26, 2008 9:46:21 PM

I figured out that the white space is related to the menu. The menu pushes #content further down the page.

I tried a ugly positioning hack. I positioned #content further up. But that somehow borks the menu.

I think there's some kind of padding or margin value that's causing it. But I haven't been able to find it yet.

I have the exact same problem with my White is Fun theme. I'll try to solve the problem tomorrow.

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 10:27:27 PM

Good luck. In IE, the menu goes Blog, line break, Archive, line break, line break, Photos, line break, line break, About, line break, line break. Can't figure out where the extra lines are coming from. irked.

As for the padding. It seems to be a priority problem. I move the menu into the y-axis instead of the x-axis and it pushes the content down. When I move the menu up it doesn't reset the content though. Tried rearranging my code to see if the priorities were there but that didn't work. Also, none of this affects the way the page shows on Opera Mini despite having the same rendering agent as Opera desktop.

I'm so out of my depth with this now. Still, I'll have my nice, simple Xmas theme up soon and time to fix this one without fucking my page up even more.

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 10:31:16 PM

Don't think I was nominated for that one Fan. Would've hated to lose it to the campaign lord anyway. I don't mind losing fair and square, but when someone goes around adding everyone as friends and campaigning for votes on other people's pages then it pisses me off. Well, more so that people fall for it, actually.

I didn't give you any Heinekin. Just wanted to see if I'd be disqualified for buying votes. devil

Moesring Wednesday, November 26, 2008 10:34:34 PM

Don't think I was nominated for that one

I counted 5 nominations for you in the "Best blog by a male" category. One of them was by me. p

Mad Scientistqlue Wednesday, November 26, 2008 10:37:45 PM

Good luck. up

H82typ Wednesday, November 26, 2008 10:57:53 PM

I almost didn't come here as I feared a ripped nip pic. p

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, November 26, 2008 11:09:33 PM

No nipple pics dude. But if you don't vote for me I'll hack the mobile stylesheet and turn every image into my nipple. p Off ya go. bigsmile

Dacotah Thursday, November 27, 2008 2:09:10 AM

Good luck Mik.
pssst It's not fixed in Opera. sad

Dark FurieFurie Thursday, November 27, 2008 2:18:50 AM

Have a scan through the comments Carol. The menu's sorted out, but I couldn't fix the gap, so I compensated instead and use it as a way to hide a secret banner/set of insults to random people depending on what I set as my page background.

Having said that, I learned a few things that will help me with my next big update for this page. Gonna have to get some images together on the PC for that, and test some new coding before everything's ready. But afterwards the menu wont be a problem at all. devil

Mad Scientistqlue Thursday, November 27, 2008 5:01:50 AM

Ya well no find dude. p

Bad WolfCois Thursday, November 27, 2008 5:55:35 AM

KittyliciousZaphira Friday, November 28, 2008 6:11:58 AM

I like the size of the banner now, it's not as dominating as the bigger one. The gap is still there (using Firefox, but you already know that).
