So I was just thinking. How come every time someone in a book/movie/television show gets super powers, they suddenly have to save the world or something? Can't people just have super powers and have a boring dull life?

The whole superhero thing has become somewhat cliche. Super powers without the safety net of saving the world and being hunted by some corrupt government or some alien race that hopes to harness the power for its own gain could potentially revamp the superpower storylines that everyone is so fond of and make it more interesting.

Don't get me wrong. Comics are still entertaining to read, but it's all so recycled. And when they are original ideas, they are redone over and over as soon as they hit the shelves. X-Men's Messiah Complex was retooled only a month after it finished by the Fairly Oddparents. Whether it was intentional or not, it was annoying. (I didn't mind it all that much really, the return of the Fairly Oddparents was a welcome surprise.)

Comic book writers - please quit it with the destiny crap. Just let some average guy (or girl) get super powers and use them in everyday life without a government agent pounding on their door hoping to probe them.
