Latest GameStop Experience

**Note: The following does not mean that I am in any way unhappy with Gamestop as a corporation or a store. I love going there and purchasing games, and trading in old games I don't use anymore. This is simply a bad experience I had today.

I enjoy video games. I love grabbing the old ones that I don't play anymore and heading over to Gamestop to trade them in for store credit, and from there buying a new game.

As it turns out, I am looking for a job, or some source of income. So I figured, why not apply at Gamestop? I love video games, I know video games (especially after writing for a Nintendo blog for two years), and I'm unemployed. Perfect situation right? Wrong.

I brought in my application a few months ago. The guy working was really nice, told me that while they weren't looking for anyone at the moment he'd keep my application on file. He also went on to tell me that soon they would be putting a Gamestop about ten minutes from my house, and that would probably be better for me. I left that day feeling enthusiastic.

Now, I'm no fool. I know they get a lot of applications a day. So I applied at different stores. Staples, FYE, etc. Each place said they would call me back by the end of the week, and never did. But I began to get more hopeful about Gamestop.

Today, I went to the mall to trade in some old games. While I was there, I inquired about my application. The guy I was talking to was really nice, and started to help me.

However, the woman working at the other register decided to join the conversation. 'Gamestop gets over 300 applications a month buddy.' she said, rather coldly. (I hate being called buddy by people I don't know. Strike one.)

I merely looked at her, said 'Um... okay?' and went back to the nice fellow helping me. I explained that the manager had told me that a Gamestop would be opening up soon in my area, and he offered to look into it for me, and see if there was an ETA on when it would be finished.

Cashier lady butts in again, and says not to bother, because it takes forever for new Gamestops to open. But again, she said it rather rudely.

Nice Guy says 'Yeah, great, but do you have any idea of when it will be done?' He's trying to help me out, and not shut me down.

Lady says 'There is NO POINT. They take FOREVER.' Nice guy asks me if I would like to wait a few moments, as the manager I spoke to before was just returning from his lunch break.

Lady turns to me and says 'Don't even bother, he'll be too busy when he gets back. WEEKENDS ARE NOT THE TIME TO COME IN AND CHECK ON AN APPLICATION.'

Me: 'Um...okay?'

Needless to say, I will NOT be pursuing a job at Gamestop. The only problem is now I have no source of income. :frown:

From my experience, Gamestop employees tend to be either very helpful, or very rude. I don't think I could work there though, I mean I'd have to touch Playstation and xbox games, that's like pure torture! :insane: Give me my Wii and DS games please! :D

DON'T GIVE IN!

Go back and talk directly to the manager, and blow him away (not blow as in... well you know). Don't let that bozo of a bitch get in your way, she's just afraid that if you get the job she'll be superfluous and get fired and never find another job because she's so rude.

Good luck! monkey
