Because anything longer is boring. The scientists here at the 12seconds dodecaplex have conducted countless hours of research to determine the precise amount of time it takes for boredom or apathy to set in during typical Internet video viewing. Our patent pending Electro-Tear-Duct Prongers have determined that exactly 12 seconds of video is the ideal amount of time to keep anything interesting.
Think about it. Someone sends you a file, but it's a few minutes long and you don't really have time to watch it. So you set it aside for later. But later comes and you aren't interested anymore. Or you watch the video, but it's so long that you eventually lose interest. But a video that's only 12 seconds long? You have enough time to watch it right then and there, and is short enough to demand your full attention.
It is a great service, and people are using in a great number of ways.
1. Micro Vlogging.
One of the latest and fastest growing forms of communication is the Video blog, made popular by folks such as Hank and John Green. Now you can make short video updates for your family, friends, or coworkers to keep them informed. Couple this with the ability to automatically update to micro-blogging tool Twitter, and you can connect to even more people at an even faster rate.
12seconds could be that cheap advertising that your company has been looking for. Take the Roger Smith Hotel for instance. To advertise their restaurant's lunch special for the day, the make a 12seconds video of the dish, and they also make videos that invite the viewer to go and visit the restaurant.
3. Boost your own ego.
Each day 12seconds has a new challenge for their users. They ask a question, and users can all answer it, and watch the answers that others have given. 12seconds choose the best answer given, and the next day provide a link the the previous day's winner on each user's home page. So if you win a challenge, you get seen by basically every user on the website, and thus get an increased amount of followers on the website. They also give out awards for certain things, like being an early member of the website, getting a lot of followers, or voting in the recent elections.
4. 12seconds from Anywhere.
That's right, you can upload video straight from your cellphones, email, upload from your desktop, or even send the first 12 seconds of a live Flixwagon session. Nice to know you won't be tethered to your webcam eh?
5. Customer Service
One of the things that sets 12 seconds a part form a lot of other services is that they do customer service well, and the do customer service fast. They have their help process set up with Get Satisfaction, and respond to inquiries quick and efficiently. It's so good you almost want something to glitch up, because they fix it right away and work with you through every step.
There you have it. 5 reasons why you should use 12seconds.tv. (Right now it's in private beta, but every user has invites. Including me.)
