Wolverine And The X-Men animated trailer

I'm not really a fan. I mean, I get what storyline they are trying to use, but Cyclops should be the leader of the X-Men. And he should do it sans beard.

I dunno how many of you follow PvP, but it's a long running web-comic that is celebrating it's ten year anniversary today. And rather than putting up a comic that said 'Happy Ten Years' or something, Kurtz decided to show the marriage of Brent and Jade. It came out amazingly, and Brent even took off his sunglasses for the first time in ten years. If you haven't done so before, get your butt over to PvP and read the whole series from 1998 to today.

Amazing stuff.

So I was just thinking. How come every time someone in a book/movie/television show gets super powers, they suddenly have to save the world or something? Can't people just have super powers and have a boring dull life?

The whole superhero thing has become somewhat cliche. Super powers without the safety net of saving the world and being hunted by some corrupt government or some alien race that hopes to harness the power for its own gain could potentially revamp the superpower storylines that everyone is so fond of and make it more interesting.

Don't get me wrong. Comics are still entertaining to read, but it's all so recycled. And when they are original ideas, they are redone over and over as soon as they hit the shelves. X-Men's Messiah Complex was retooled only a month after it finished by the Fairly Oddparents. Whether it was intentional or not, it was annoying. (I didn't mind it all that much really, the return of the Fairly Oddparents was a welcome surprise.)

Comic book writers - please quit it with the destiny crap. Just let some average guy (or girl) get super powers and use them in everyday life without a government agent pounding on their door hoping to probe them.

Currently Listening: In Too Far - Acceptance

Finally got around to wearing my NES belt buckle yesterday. It was awesome. Best $14.99 I've ever spent.

I just read today over at The Beat that the Foreign Minister of Japan, Masahiko Komura, has named DORAEMON as Japan's anime ambassador. For those that don't know, DORAEMON comes from the manga/anime of the same name, and is a time traveling robotic cat from the 22nd century, sent back in time to help out some kid. Now, the Japanese are great and everything. Really, I like them. But making an anime character to be an ambassador? Really Japan. What's wrong with you? This whole thing is legit too. Here's what happened at the ceremony....

Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura appointed the cat an “anime ambassador,” handing a human-sized Doraemon doll an official certificate at an inauguration ceremony, along with dozens of “dorayaki” red bean pancakes — his favorite dessert — piled on a huge plate.

Komura told the doll, with an unidentified person inside, that he hoped he would widely promote Japanese animated cartoons, or “anime.”

“Doraemon, I hope you will travel around the world as an anime ambassador to deepen people’s understanding of Japan so they will become friends with Japan,” Komura told the blue-and-white cat.

...okay. So it kind of sounds like they are turning it into a government sponsored celebrity. Still, weird. The cat will be embarking on a tour that will include Singapore, China, Spain, France, and other countries. And maybe a movie.

I've been meaning to blog about Greg Burgas' article about Rogue's Galleries for a while, but just....haven't. He has a lot of great points, and yes, it would be wonderful if comic writers would just take a break from some characters like The Joker for a while and come up with some new ones. But The Joker sells. So do all the other villains that have been around forever. People don't like change, and if instead of Venom we suddenly had Skunkman (or someone with a good name, I'm not a comic writer for a reason), comic fans everywhere wouldn't like it. Even if Venom reappeared a few issues later.

Also, this necklace looks awesome.

Best site ever!
