GAMEPLAY
GOD OF WAR 3 features gameplay similar to previous installments. The player controls the character KRATOS in a combination of first person and third person combat ( including quick time), platforming and puzzel, game elements,KRATOS's main weapons are the blade of exile. (initially the blade of athena), with other new weapons including the claws of HADES, the NEMEAN CESTAS and the NEMESIS whip. The NEMEAN CESTUS ( a pair of fist gantlets ) and item the BOW OF APOLLO are crucial as they are required to advance through certain stages of the game..
Unlike the previous games in the series the primary weapons also dictate the use of magic, with each weapon having an individual magic ability : DIVINE RECKONING (BLADE OF ATHENA), ARMY OF SPARTA(BLADE OF EXILE), SOUL SUMMON(CLAWS OF HADES), NEMEAN ROAR(NEMEAN CESTAS), and NEMESIS RAGE(NEMESIS WHIP). The power of each magic ability increases via upgrading the weapon which each is linked( excluding the temporary divine reckoning)..
KRATOS also has an array of secondary weapons referred to as items that have limited usage before needing recharging (which occurs automatically), being the BOW OF APOLLO, HEAD OF HELIOS and BOOTS OF HERMES..
The relics POSEIDON's TRIDENT, THE GOLDEN FLEECE, and LCARUS WINGS that were acquired in previous games are automatically retained. The blade of Olympus is also retained but as no longer a primary weapon, being now utilization conjuction with the specia magic feature, THE RAGE OF SPARTA.. The RAGE OF SPARTA is the equivalent to the rage of gods and rage of the titans from the god of war and god of was 2 respectively, and provides the temporary invulnerability attack damage. The blade of Olympus is also used in several cut scenes to provide the finishing move on several foes and is used as the magic ability for the blades of athena..

The Xbox 360 Kinectis flying off retail shelves worldwide with a reported 1.3 million units sold in the first ten days since launch. Those 1.3 million units have raked in a cool $250 million in revenue for Redmond’s camp and officially thrown the Playstation Move into the rear-view mirror. According to VGChartz, during the first ten days since the North America launch nearly 950,000 sensors were sold. Meanwhile in Europe 330,000 units were sold, consisting of 130,000 in the UK alone. To put these figures into perspective, Kinect sold nearly twice the units as the Playstation Move during the first week in the US, with reports of 480,000 and 200,000 respectively. It looks like that purported $500 million advertising budget is working out quite well after all.
It’s hard to explain the magnitude of the Xbox 360 Kinect advertising budget without a quick look to the past. In 2006 when the Xbox 360 first launched, Microsoft had a total advertising budget of $944.9 millionf or all of Microsoft’s entertainment products while Nintendo’s Wii clocked in at just over $200 million. Fast forward to the present and the Redmond camp is allocating nearly half their 2006 advertising budget into a single accessory for the Xbox 360.
Numbers aside, the Xbox 360 Kinectis poised to be the holiday blockbuster Microsoft had hoped. As of today the top-selling software titles are Kinect Adventures with 400,000 units sold worldwide, followed by Dance Central with 200,000, Kinectimalsat 110,000 and Fighters Uncaged and Motion Sports both with 100,000 units. In total this brings the software sales for Kinect up to 2.5 million units if we factor in the sales of Kinect Adventures which comes bundled with the sensor. Now that the Xbox 360 Kinect sensor is widely available in Europe and the Americas is anyone up to the challenge of predicting 30-day worldwide sales figures?

First touted back in 2006, L.A. Noire is the latest in an ever-expanding line of open-ended, plot-rich Rockstar Games' titles and it's edging closer to its release than ever before. Well, a trailer has been unveiled, anyway. The game fits into the action adventure genre, but is a slight departure for the developer behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise and Red Dead Redemption. Instead of focusing on law-breakers, it asks the player to solve crimes, namely a series of gruesome murders committed around Los Angeles back in a 1930s setting. However, even from the trailer, L.A. Noire displays the company's trademark attention to detail and superb storytelling ability.Unfortunately, though, there's still no announcement on release date. We would expect it to be, at the very least, next year - perhaps, even, the latter half. At least then it could share its launch with its fifth anniversary.

Most players have yet to meet or don the required specs necessary to enjoy Call of Duty: Black Ops in 3D. The intended-to-immerse visual effect doesn't come for free, after all -- not even for the game itself. Joystiq came away impressed with developer Treyarch's implementation of the technology across three different platforms, but our commentary lacked the technical foundation you'll find in Eurogamer and Digital Foundry's latest minute inquiry. According to Richard Lead better's thorough analysis (which also pits the Xbox 360 version against the PS3 rendition),Black Ops takes a significant performance hit when played in 3D on consoles. "Away from individual perceptions and back to the cold hard realities of performance and controller response, there's little doubt that 3D impacts the core experience of playing Black Ops. What you gain (or don't gain, depending on the individual's viewpoint) from the 3D effect you lose in terms of controller response and frame-rate," Leadbetter wrote, noting the severity of the drawbacks in a franchise praised for its smooth framerate and quick controls. "On both versions of the game there's often a sense that you're wading through treacle, almost as if you're battling the control scheme to get some semblance of the response you get from playing in 2D." (Note: Black Ops does not, as far as we know, include a level set in a malfunctioning sugar refinery.) Despite the PlayStation 3 making a hard push for 3D adoption -- next year's Killzone 3 being one of the standout titles -- Lead better concluded that playability on Sony's console suffered the most. "We've logged the PS3 game running as low as 20FPS - and that's just in the very first street battle in the initial Cuba level." This lack of parity between versions is a problem unique to 3D games -- film studios need only be concerned with how well a film plays with the audience, and not how well the audience plays it. However, as new technology gains wider acceptance, the tradeoffs should become less costly. We're bound to lose a few on the frontline first.

Call of Duty Black Ops is likely to be the biggest video game of the year. Activision Blizzard said so in its earnings call last week. And it got some additional validation Saturday night, as armed robbers made off with more than 100 copies of the highly-anticipated game in a heist at a GameStop Store in Baltimore.
The two robbers had handguns and burst into the GameStop store as it was about to close, according to the Baltimore Sun news paper. The men stole four full cases of Black Ops, as well as cash and game systems. The latest installment in the Call of Duty series debuts on Tuesday. As we noted in our story on piracy of the game, some gamers are willing to pay hundreds of dollars to get the game early. So these robbers realized that if they could swipe a lot of games before the launch, they could probably sell them off quickly for higher than the $60 retail prices. The games are being transferred under tight security, but clearly armed robbery is a step above the usual thievery that happens around a big game launch. Mike Hickey, an analyst at Janco Partners, said in a note on Friday that the game could sell more than 18 million units, generating $818 million in revenue. That’s less than Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 sold last year. Last year’s title sold more than 20 million units and generated more than $1 billion in sales. It will be very interesting to watch this year’s battle for the consumer. Besides Black Ops, other big game launches of the season include World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Microsoft’s Kinect, Halo:Reach, and PlayStation Move. This line-up of hot titles could be just what the doctor ordered for the console game industry, which has seen sales shrink 8 percent so far this year, according to market researcher NPD. Of course, in order for Black Ops to sell well, Activision Blizzard has to keep a lid on the piracy. If piracy runs rampant, it could very well hurt the game’s chances to sell as many copies as expected. That’s why this kind of robbery is particularly worrisome for the game companies. My money is on Black Ops for the biggest game of the season. Based on everything I’ve seen, this game is going to be a stand-out hit, even for a Call of Duty game. One of the prime attractions is its storyline, which focuses on secret soldiers who operate behind enemy lines during the Cold War and use experimental weapons to get their jobs done. You can use ammo such as Dragon’s Breath, or shotgun ammo that explodes into flames on contact. Sounds vicious, alright. But that’s what it takes to outdo whatever has come earlier in this game series. It’s too bad the robbers didn’t have the patience to wait. I’m looking forward to this game, too, but I’m not willing to go to jail for it.
